Modern Cabin Final Tour

- This video is the final tour of a modern cabin that I completed acting as my own general contractor. The cabin is a high grade and high performance build, offering high energy savings and little maintenance. The materials and products used include:
ICF, concrete, 26 gauge metal wall and roofing, gravel (for backfill), composite trex decking, ducted mini split, cable rails, low e energy efficient windows, zip system sheathing, fiber cement siding and soffit paneling, painted pvc entrance, and gas tankless water heater.

As the GC, I managed all aspects of design, permitting, and construction. I also sourced my own materials and completed several DYI projects. In the end I believe I saved approximately 20% off the total cost.

Pretty decent modern cabin. The interior could easily rival any condo in New York that's worth millions. Making the floors out of concrete is genius, it's easy to clean and would last longer than hardwood floors. All in all, great build. One you should be proud of.
A modern minimalist right-sized full featured cabin with no compromises, with a gorgeous view. Love it!
very well done. congratulations. my did did large scale industrial construction, mainly concrete, so i've always wanted a concrete home. but one thing he warned me about is that even though a concrete building may be fire proof, concrete is not immune to the intense heat of a forest fire, which can suck the moisture out of concrete (making it crumble) and render the building uninhabitable. the solution is to make sure you have adequate fire breaks a good distance from the building
concrete probably only prevents floating tinders from lighting up the house in very dry season. yeah you need clearings to keep the heat away
Such a cool cabin. Great use of space inside and out, except I am wondering where you eat? I maybe would have made the island a dining area with 5 stools around it rather than base cabinets underneath.

Awesome Cabin, very well thought through and great design aesthetics. Love the outside desk and hot tub. Definitely add some solar panels. I would,ve probably added at least another three hundred square interior footage prior to building but I know that's about cost. Great build.

Hello, I enjoyed watching the process of how this piece of livable art really came together! You seem really invested and knowledgeable when in comes to building a home and making sure everything has the perfect fit and purpose. Wondering if there's a finished look and a question is what bought me to your page. You definitely hit me with a curve ball because WOW it is not what I expected as far as the outside design. Your home is incredible and you've definitely ran beyond the finish line I think when it comes to your vision with making your cabin to be slick, urban, and unique. Your content so far is great maybe the very best I've seen so I couldn't be here without subscribing! Now after finally seeing the finished look I have two new additional questions. My first question I guess is two in one, or a million in two lol. For the base of the home I see that you want guarantee sturdiness, reliability, and longevity when it comes to building your home especially the based of things like you deck. In using your method for the actual base of the home is it possible to build in the based as you did then a basement? The second part of that question is since I'm speaking about a basement something you did not add to your home if you were to though for the basement would you still have done the walls the same way as one piece pouring concrete? and is it effective for sturdiness being underground for a basement or would you have done a more involved build with like concrete bricks in order to build a basement. My second question is, Do you believe concrete is a promising material to use? Do you not worry or believe there will be any type of cracking or likely damages compared to stick building? My third question is I see you decided to keep the floors concrete does having concrete floors instead of carpet counteract with the wall system you explained? I would think concrete floors would be very cold and contribute to not keeping a space warm especially during winter time.

Spend the money on a better location for a better view, high efficiency and things like a hot tub from the money saved from building smaller.

That retaining wall is not high enough for solar panels in Winter. Build it higher on the hill behind the retaining wall.

how do you prevent concrete from cracking?
What’s the purpose of the giant island? You can’t even sit there and takes away from a dining room.

What was your build cost per sqft ?
Good question! Looks to me like before they reached point "0" (complete foundation) they burned way over 100K. Surely it is not a "budget" project.

I like the Floorplan but the style, colors and placement of things is just not my thing, sorry.
Really not my style. Would never have a SMART home. All data is collected on you and in an electrical outage nothimg works. Concrete is terrible on the back. The Island is also strange. Should be perpendicular to kitchen so you can use the space to cook. Other side could have seating. All to city life for me. Glad you love it.
Wow! Great cabin, thanks for the tour. I also built my rental property about the same time. I have also the construction video but not the final tour video like this and this has inspired me to make one in the future when it's ready.
