Man, poor Porygon really took one for the team. Pikachu’s the one who caused the epileptic seizures and yet PORYGON and its evolutionary lines are the ones who got banned from the anime.
A Slice of Life anime where almost every character is everyone else's sibling, aunt/uncle, cousin, or all of the above simultaneously and through multiple paths. I'm just glad they never did an anime based on Makoto's dad, a guy who strictly follows the principle of "If it has a hole, that's ALL that matters".
Myne’s false allegations against Naofumi angered me so much, it left me feeling nothing but hate for her. One of these days she’ll get rock bottom and everyone will be over the moon.
"It's a wonder Gurren Lagann is still so beloved" "Fanservice out of place in Code Geas" Tell me you didn't watch the show without telling me you didn't watch the show. "Congratulations" was a perfect ending to a show about depression. That's what getting over depression feels like.
"Tell me you didn't watch Evangelion and understand it without telling me you didn't understand the show" The ending we got to the Evangelion series was due the studio running out of budget, it wasn't what they had planned. I have VHS copies of the final episodes from ADV and the back of the box art has screen caps that never were in the episodes and would later be shown in End Of Evangelion in one form or an other. The fan black lash to the ending, which included death threats, was one of the driving factors of the movie being so violent and shocking, and the scene where the camera turns around and shows an empty theater while Japanese text flashes on the screen (which were the death threats the studio got) were basically a fuck you, this is what you get. The show was never about depression. Now that the series was concluded with the Rebuild series of films, we know that it was really about the hubris of mankind repeating the same mistakes over and over again (as evidenced that every incarnation of the series are all just different repeating time lines). Yeah, Shinji gets depressed, but show me a teenager that doesn't from time to time, but its not the theme of the anime. At least in the Manga, Shinji punches his father. Pretty bad ass.
that tokyo ghoul one is nuts. sending death threats over a straight relationship? if that isn't proof that heterophobia is also a thing idk what is. more importantly though it's the creators decision and there's nothing you can do about it.
Nice Boat wasn’t in the subtitles for the stock footage. It came from a post on 2-Chan. Someone posted a screenshot of the stock footage, and some English speaker, who was just browsing through and had no idea what the screenshot said or was even for, posted the Nice Boat reply. There’s your mini history lesson from the sweaty armpit of the internet.
Neon Genesis Evangelion - Gainex left the ending so Confusing & Ambiguous that fans literally sent them Death Threats demanding a Less Confusing Ending.
That oshi no ko one is just ridiculous. I do feel for the woman who actually died and for her family who lost her, and its understandable that people who are in the depths of grief can have very skewed views, but, to assume that things which take months or years to produce in advance of release-and doubly so when that was based on source material already in existence for YEARS is somehow specifically targeting and exploiting your personal and SUDDEN tragedy is just the HEIGHT of narcissism. The fact that people jumped in support of such clearly misplaced and incorrect assumptions woukd be perplexing, except that its probably due to people not actually caring about things like facts or truth when rhey get rhe chance to feel like they can be "in the right" and feel high and mighty about something they dont actually know anything about or care to do even the most basic of reading about, not when they can join in a mob! The only thing on this list that I find even more egregious and outrageous is the Tokyo ghoul one, since that lacked even a coincidental occurrence overlapping as a cause.
With school days it got even more visceral, Kotonoha killed Sekai who was pregnant and cut open her uterus then said "theres no baby". To me that was a lot more shocking.
Well she did end up proving her belief that Sekai was lying about being pregnant… but did so in the worst way imaginable. Also, School Days the Visual Novel isn’t nearly as bad as the anime when you consider that the anime is only one Bad End that only happens when you make every bad decision possible throughout the entire game lol
@@lildyo "Proved that Sekai was lying"? Sekai was very early on in the pregnancy, so the embryo would've been very small and hard to see under the best circumstances. How then does a crazy, delusional psycho not seeing a very tiny embryo in a big pool of blood count as "proving" anything. Honestly, as far gone as she was, I'm pretty sure she'd still say there's no one there if a full fetus reached out and started crying. As for the visual novel, it's not necessarily as bad, but given that it's within the Overflow visual novel timeline, it becomes real bad fast, since pretty much everyone in the story is related and has a family tree that never branches. I'm pretty sure at least half of the population of that setting are children of Makoto's father. Both the kids and their parents (not kidding, chances are about 90% that if that guy is someone's father, he's also their grandfather).
@@WarriorKalia He actually got fortunate within his game actually. From what I looked up, of the main girls (the girls shown in the anime), only Setsuna and Sekai are related to him. Specifically, they're his half-nieces, as their mothers are his half-sisters and they're both daughters of his half-brother Shun. Still, looking at the genealogy in that general neighborhood is beyond creepy, thanks mostly to Makoto's father but also thanks to a degree on various brothers of Makoto who chose to, shall we say, follow in their father's footsteps.
Same, actually. I was expecting them to go into detail about how the showrunners never told anyone that episode 2 onward would feature hentai scenes that didn't even exist in the source manga. It wasn't just the dub that got canceled because they didn't know what they were getting, but Japanese broadcasters all over the country as well. If the showrunners had just stated what to expect after the first episode, things would've gone differently.
Whether intentional or not, I can't help but wonder if the final scene of her holding his head on a boat had anything to do with the substitute video. It would be like replacing the ending of the American horror/mystery/suspense movie "Seven" with nothing but shots of Amazon packages with the text "nice box"
If you try to look at Eren's trope, He was called a Cosmic Plaything due to the fact that he pulled his own strings from the beginning, So he had no choice but to accept it and cry cause from the beginning, Eren scrwed up his life from the start.
Maybe shock value was an added bonus, but from how Goblin Slayer's story develops it feels more like they wanted you to have a legitimate reason to fear goblins. That first episode has spends so much of itself highlighting the way goblins are looked at in most fantasy settings. That being so weak villagers with a pitchfork can deal with them. As the inverse to that Goblin Slayer gives a deeper background as to how they get that reputation, while showing a more realistic version of them. Goblin Slayer's goblins aren't run of the mill. They are a plague that should be exterminated and it is them being ignored that turns them into a threat. Episode 1 does a phenomenal job of instilling that. Sure they could have just alluded to the things they caught flak for, but that wasn't going to make your skin crawl the way being slapped with some reality did.
@@darkcylander the reaction. It happened in the RWBY fandom, too, where an on-screen relationship between two characters who had genuine chemistry caught backlash because fans shipped one of the pair in a different, gay pairing. In RWBY, the creators actually caved to the pressure and gave fans their OTP and the whole thing feels so forced it's like they're sticking a middle finger to the fans that wanted it in the first place. So everyone loses, and now RT is shut down.
Endless Eight will always have a place in my heart for the sheer commitment to it. Like, I don't even care that it was a little frustrating. I think it's more controversial that any release after the original TV airing of the first season were in chronological order rather than broadcast order.
People complaining of Eren's emotial breakdown in the final episode are missing the entire point. Eren was a prisoner of his own destiny, it might sound absurd, because it kinda is, but he was basically obligated to do all he did even if he didnt want to, because 1-they couldnt think of a better way, 2- the vidisoins of his future were unchangeable regardless of what he did.
Nah I loved the ending to Attack on Titan's ending. It shows how broken he was believing there was nothing he could do to change how the future acted out and just went along with it because he knew by the end of it, he'd give his people the freedom he always dreamed of without the risk of them just going extinct right away from fear (if he hadn't killed nearly everyone, the people who stayed alive would have killed them all believing all the lies that were told about them for years as soon as the Rumbling ended, or hell even if Eren only threatened the people, as soon as he died, they'd attack the entire island....there was no winning from his POV).
Nina and her Table Lelouch: "Getting taken off the Internet for this one." That seems like child's play compared to what went on in Redo of Healer, though. A show that I'm pretty sure no one was unironically in the corner of from the beginning. We all knew it was a dumpster fire from go. And to be fair, it was a nice boat.
I don't think Redo of healer was a dumpster fire, I actually really liked it's premise and all that, now was it the best, no, but I do want more anime, stories, and so forth with darker tones like that. Now what angers me about Redo of Healer is how people consider it an isekai, when it isn't, now that is what angers me.
@@kevinmurphy4647 Fair, but I do caution being dark for dark's sake. Case in point. Also, Redo of Healer wasn't helping itself in not being a story. It was a premise, and every episode was made to feed that one premise, but never evolved into much of a plot. If at all.
Well the only "controversy" was Nux getting the show review propped to #1 on myanime. Kinda silly that the show got greenlite only for Crunchyroll to pull it after a single episode. It was actually a interesting take on fantasy. Oh well there's still Gushing over Magical girls on Hidive.
Not all food, but heads of cabbage/lettuce specifically. Extra effort goes into those specifically lol. It’s especially noticeable when all the other food is animated at normal quality
i actually don't mind for Eren to die if the writer did not portray him as a person who value FREEDOM. Since from beginning, we can see Eren is actually a simpleton, who doing thing without thinking driven by motivation & emotion. HE is also aggressive and this all leads to a character of a psychopaths at the end since no one can control him. In the end, his end just show how contradict his value for FREEDOM character by becoming a SLAVE OF FATE.
That show is a surprisingly deep dove into the various kinds of abuse (s3xu4l, emotional, and physical), and how they affect the recipient of said abuse.
@@Muhammadwasapedo Yeah. For the record, "Berserk" has way more rape than "Redo of Healer". But unlike the latter, "Berserk" had a very good reason for this.
Personally, I always interpreted the ending of Neon Genesis Evangelion as Shinji overcoming his depression (at least for a time) and deciding to open himself up to the people around him. It kind of mirrors Hideaki Anno's own struggles with depression, and how he came out the other side. As someone who deals with it myself, I do have a tendency to close myself off from people and live in my own little world for a little while. But when I am able to overcome the bout of depression, I am able to interact with the world again. So I see a lot of myself in Shinji, as a matter of fact. Of course, we know now that Shinji rejected Instrumentality at the end of The End of Evangelion, and choosing to live in the world as it was, not the world SEELE wanted it to be. But at the time, I always thought it was about him overcoming his depression and opening himself up to others. I still have yet to see Thrice Upon a Time, though. I do have a copy of the movie, but I just never got around to watching it. I do have a vague idea of what happens, however, having read the plot online. I did hear they brought back Amanda Winn-Lee (the original English voice of Rei Ayanami in the ADV FIlms Dub) as the voice of Rei, taking over from Brina Palencia (who voiced her in the first three Rebuild of Evangelion movies, which were dubbed by Funimation), so it will be interesting to see if Amanda Winn-Lee will voice Rei like she did in the ADV Dub or will try to make it more like Brina Palencia's take on the character for continuity's sake.
Personally the only thing that enrages me is the controversy itself People pointlessly go to the extreme and it is stupid every time. Especially saying they should be more “sensitive” there’s too much sensitivity with people wanting to avoid real world issues that anime actually does the right thing by addressing. I also hate censorship in anime because if you can’t handle it or don’t like it then leave it alone don’t ruin it for everyone else
I agree. These issues should be talked about and exposed. The problems arise when the author isn't equipped to handle the subject matter. For example the SAO episode mentioned in the video is built to appropriately, doesn't come out of nowhere and appropriately serves the narrative. If I remember correctly a lot of the censoring of that episode relates to how messed up the instigators of the assault are after the heroes find out what they are doing.
I actually thought the Rising false allegation was a good idea. We often saw that trope happen and we sometimes see the males ACTUALLY do stuff like that.
They hated it because at the time the 'Me Too' movement was trying to push the line of believing woman with zero proof whilst claiming that if the accusation was eventually proven false no real harm had been done.
@@poleaxed6447 True. But unfortunately that exists because there’s lots of people who say they’re all lying, it’s their fault, or that it’s impossible to get aroused when you force yourself on someone. Even when it’s been proven they were forced/threatened. There were an alarming amount that even said “well if they don’t want to be forced into sex for fear of their job they should quit”. Doesn’t excuse it ESPECIALLY if a false accusation is made with no consequences. But “false” doesn’t mean one that had to be thrown out. Also the whole “you can’t consent while drunk” thing doesn’t wash, and the ability to “retract consent” afterwards. It’s a vicious cycle.
@@dansmith16 That’s what a weakling would say. Must be a very dishonest person. You don’t automatically believe them but you’re pretending like SA never happens. You tentatively go along and try to piece the facts together. If there’s no case then even if you do “believe” them you can’t say anything happened. If there’s no case there’s no need to believe anyone. That’s what’s called “critical thinking”. A new foreign concept for many I know.
There was a famous guy like hana kimura in USA who also got harassed and handled it much better, took a swing with a dumbbell at one of the harassers and cracked one skull. Since he was famous basically got of the hook with a small fine. I do wonder if they kept annoying him.
The Oshi no Ko one still pisses me off honestly. That storyline brought good attention to the issue of mental health in show business, it's just so obviously not meant to be mean spirited and as stated it was written in the manga way before that suicide. The fact that it mimics the event so well is a testament to how fucked the industry(and the fans) are and I have a sneaking suspicion a lot of people didn't like being reminded they're the bad guy there.
Amazing video watch mojo of anime controversial moments that upset or outraged the anime fandom in rage, fantastic job. I feel bad for that poor table in code geass what Nina did to it some hilarious too. That table needs a lawyer or a doctor too.
Redo the Healer should've just been hentai. It checks all the boxes with the inclusion of a lot of sex, nudity, and revenge. Had it been, it wouldn't have been controversial.
Oh please people would find a way to make some controversy because they can’t leave well enough alone. Look at what they said for series like Uzaki-Chan without even looking into it
Exactly it also has a plot that makes no sense. All that story was to depict r#pe and sex scenes. Not much different than the Kuroinu or Taimanin series. But instead of making it into a hentai, they made it an anime which brought hentai-level wickedness to a normal audience. (most of the hentai would be controversial if normal people knew about those stuff)
Agreed. If it had been advertised as a hentai from the start, there wouldn’t have been almost any backlash. The fact it aired on tv and mainstream streaming services exposed it to a much broader audience that aren’t going to be expecting/wanting that sort of content
You want "fan controversy"? Just mention Lucky Star to an 00's anime fan, and see whether he still develops that traumatized eye-twitch at the very mention of...."Chocolate cornets". And I'll wager nobody here even REMEMBERS the "Garlic (pizza) Wars" that erupted when the studio offered to re-animate some visual Westerrnized cultural translations for Disney X-D's dub of the 10's Doraemon reboot. You'd think it was Kiki being served "cocoa" instead of coffee.
5:45 What are you doing? The first episode of Shield Hero pissed me off. I do like that the fact that the bitch actually gets renamed Bitch later on. They actually repeated scenes in the infinite time loop for the entire story arch? 13:39 You can't kill a vampire with a gun that easily. 14:05 This anime gives me nightmares. I was not expecting the anime to be this dark. I was expecting something like Slayers. The cute art style which was not like Berserk was misleading. Skeleton Knight in Another World had a content warning and it immediately starts with it. Thanks to Goblin Slayer a lot of people ruined That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime by posting Goblin Slayer references when goblins were shown in that show. Dammit you had to ruin things by reminding me of that show. 16:52 I like this anime. It doesn't hide how edgy it is. I'm not sure why most of the viewers are apparently female. I don't think this qualifies as a Shoujo series. THIS IS DISGUSTING! I LIKE IT! The Porygon episode is interesting. I did need to wear sunglasses when watching it since I was unfortunate enough to catch a glimpse of the effect beforehand. I remember being confused when I first heard about this. I was not familiar with the episode in question. I heard that 4Kids wanted to edit the episode to be safe to watch but thanks to Japanese laws it didn't happen. I think Evangelion ran out of budget which is why the last episode was so weird. Even with the extra movies I still don't really understand what is going on.
I'm surprised Elfen Lied didn't make the list. I feel like that should be pretty high up on the "fucked up" ranking and it's a freaking classic as well.
the bigger controversy is the rabid fanbase sending death threats to gainax. EoE is very clearly a big ole middle finger to them with how much of an absolute dirtbag the audience surrogate (shinji) is in it.
I’m surprised the showdown between Kirito and Sugou wasn’t on this list somewhere. I know they only do one per series, and the one they picked is definitely worthy of its spot, but I remember there being a kerfuffle over that scene.
Calling it a showdown would be an understatement, considering that Kirito uses the System Command to outrank him and then easily wipes the floor with him. Even in the real world Kirito was able to disarm Sugou and planned to kill him with his own knife out of anger but then he hesitates as soon as Sugou screams in fear to the point of pissing himself which is actually rather cathartic and actually satisfying to watch. A fitting end to a sad waste of oxygen like him.
Yes, I know that and GOOD GOD was it tasteless. There is a reason why Mother's Basement made a video titled Fixing Alfheim - the WORST part of SAO. Always live it to TH-camrs to fix the problems caused by those so called professional writers.@@Kalush19
Honestly with the EVA Episode 26 thing I take it as Shinji having a Complete Mental Breakdown and creating a Fantasy within Third Impact,,, and then Koaru resets the Timeline(Based off the oddities within the Rebuild Movies for the Anime, and the EVA Corpses which the Public doesn't understand the origin of for the Manga's Epilouge)

Puritans and censors from the West are ruining anime. Now they are changing entire conversations and dialog to the point where the story makes zero sense..
Lol you start off with the end of Attack on Titan yet no Spoiler alert ahead of that? xD I think there will be a lot of fellow otaku who have been busy with real life who might not even go through the very first minute of your video xD
Most of these were cried about by people that were never going to watch them anyways. American Puritans always have to have something to complain about to justify their existence.
This list makes sense at times, at other times it is absurd, notably: -Tokyo Ghoul: Ship at your risk. It's one thing if you're doing something unnatural like pairing up a couple with zero chemistry, such as Padme and Anakin in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, but this was and is absurd. -Oshi no Ko: Gosh, no star has ever attempted to commit suicide due to public pressure. Oh, wait, they have. AND the manga was written before the girl killed herself. -Rising of the Shield Hero: Those complaining about this should not be allowed out in the real world. -Goblin Slayer: Those complaining about this should not be allowed out in the real world. -Sword Art Online: Those complaining about this should not be allowed out in the real world. As someone who has been involved in the criminal justice system for decades and a student of history, rape is a real and historic act. False allegations are a real thing as well. Slavery still exists and it has existed going back to prehistory in almost every culture and continent. That slavery will be controversial is natural. But pretending it doesn't exist, ditto rape, and should never be included is absurd. A more open discussion on the topics is, IMHO, the best way to fight those problems. Unfortunately, what happened in these cases were not discussions but temper tantrums. Where controversy is notably merited: -The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: My undergrad degree was in film and media, and I deeply respect the creators for what they did to convey to the audience what a time loop could do, with it paying off huge dividends with the movie The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, completely explaining what was in effect a character going insane because of it. Every scene in all 8 episodes was original. The artwork and animation is fantastic. As a viewer, it is an ordeal and an understandable controversy. -Redo of Healer: This show has a multiple layer of controversial issues, from the content to the different levels of censorship. The controversy is understandable given how these topics of rape are effectively soft-porn level (just barely short of actual porn) along with the consensual sex. However, this show is basically an anime equivalent of Game of Thrones. However, the censorship issue cut both ways. As despicable as the MC was on many levels, the censorship made clear that he was doing horrible things, but greatly obscured the horrible things that had been done to him for years. Throw in slavery and mind control, this is a natural for any list of controversial anime. It is, however, an interesting look at the depths of revenge. The show does have a story and an intelligent one at that, but the anime ends before it hits its stride. Berserk is not here nor Interspecies Reviewers, both controversial enough that they should have been included on this list.
Poor Porygon, blacklisted from the show and it wasn't even its fault. Although all three forms appeared in the new Horizons series, so seems its okay now.
Goblin King I remember that from a blue spooky video now I can’t remember the full story . 15:01 but it was incredibly toxic relationship the person was in with his girlfriend and. This person was obsessed with the show but the girlfriend felt uncomfortable but he forced her to watch it even though she begged him just to watch it by himself but no he literally. It was an incredibly tough to listen to that story but lucky she ended up getting out relationship in the end it just escalated to quite a bad extent
It is a masterpiece because puts you in the spot of nagato and what she felt after living endless 8 so many times, after that you can tell why she did what she did in the movie.
@@jacara1981I doubt that’s the reason. Probably has more to do with copyright. Western companies hold the rights to English dubbed versions and are much more likely to file a DMCA request than the Japanese companies that hold the original Japanese version
I knew that the Sword Art Online one would be on this list. When I watched it after it came out, I had needed a couple hours to gather my bearings. It was one of the darkest moments I have ever seen from the anime but I knew that some anime went darker. They had put the content warning at the start of that episode in question, but even with that, I wasn't the most prepared.
redo of healer is actually pretty cool. yeah sure you gotta understand what you are getting into, but looking through all that the story is pretty unique.
Because Pokemon Porygon and Evangelion exist. You should be glad they didn't include Berserk and "I love Emilia" because it would be number 5 if those were included
If "Endless Eight" wasn't on this list, I would've unsubscribed. Sorry, but I'm still that bitter about it. Newbies to anime will never know just how hyped we were to get a second season. No joke, this was the Half-Life 3 of anime fandom...just for half the season be the exact same episode. Fans were posting videos of them destroying their Haruhi merchandise. It was honestly heartbreaking. The director could've achieved the exact same plot and feeling he was going for in 3-4 episodes. The first to show the audience basically just them enjoying vacation and that's it. Fans were already confused by this point. Show a nearly identical episode to really confuse them and then either wait unti next episode to drop the revelation that Yuki has been going through this thousands of times or do just one more episode and then break the loop. I will never understand how this could've been approved by the producers. Anyone with any sanity would've NEVER given this the greenlight unless they hated the fans and wanted to make them suffer for some reason.
No, clearly you will never understand; The season was intended to be two short stories followed by novels "Sigh" and "Disappearance" but then it was decided to make Disappearance a movie so they had to fill six episodes. More importantly, there was never really a season two; There was a chronological rebroadcast... which itself pissed off "broadcast order" fans.... of the first season with new episodes slotted in where they fit in the timeline. "Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody" was the first new episode after the 6 part opener but it was immediately followed by more repeats. I had to keep reassuring people during those first few repeats "no, no, Kyoto Animation wouldn't have done Haruhi-Chan the previous year if they weren't going to do new episodes now." The biggest victim here is "The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya" which had to follow Endless Eight but still not be Disappearance. It's a great adaptation, but it's pretty much ignored thanks to the Eight. This was 15 years ago and people are still butthurt and confused over it, WTF.
by the 3rd episode of the ‘endless 8’ I ended up dropping the anime and never giving it another chance. Sucks because it was pretty great up to that point

The ending we got to the Evangelion series was due the studio running out of budget, it wasn't what they had planned.
One of my favorite things is that the animators embraced the meme. In the later OVA, they actually include "Nice Boat" in one or two spots.
Was coming here to mention that bit actually, cheers
Dam Nice Detective Work
Neon Genesis Evangelion - Gainex left the ending so Confusing & Ambiguous that fans literally sent them Death Threats demanding a Less Confusing Ending.
I for one found the ending confusing myself.
Yeah my friend’s and I watched it together and we were so confused on what we just watched and it left us feeling on edge
The letters actually made it into the movie.
@@davidknightxYep, mad flex there.
"Which ending?"
All of them...
@@broEye1 Honestly I think almost everyone is a descendant of Makoto's dad, but I haven't looked at it in a while. Christ.
Putting the endless 8 on the 8th spot was pretty funny. Nicely done
the exagerated censorship makes that episode even funnier knowing it's Gintama
You can honestly make this list entirely out of moments from "Ghost Stories" and it'll still be acceptable
"Do you have any books written by black people?"

Ghost Stories wasn't controversial though, the dub was just plain funny
kinda surprised that interspecies reviewers wasnt on this list
Same, actually. I was expecting them to go into detail about how the showrunners never told anyone that episode 2 onward would feature hentai scenes that didn't even exist in the source manga. It wasn't just the dub that got canceled because they didn't know what they were getting, but Japanese broadcasters all over the country as well. If the showrunners had just stated what to expect after the first episode, things would've gone differently.
You mean that anime whose dub only had one episode because its subject matter is considered NC-17?
I can’t believe that Pokémon made the list.
But people knew it was gonna be on the list regardless

School Days - The Final scene with Kotonoha unaliving Sekai was cut from Mutiple Broadcast after a girl killed her father with a knife.
Good news: *n i c e b o a t !*
Whether intentional or not, I can't help but wonder if the final scene of her holding his head on a boat had anything to do with the substitute video.

Sure they could have just alluded to the things they caught flak for, but that wasn't going to make your skin crawl the way being slapped with some reality did.
it also is completely faithful to the manga
the Tokyo ghoul one was just straight up pathetic
Tokyo Ghoul needs a reboot
the creative choice or the shippers reaction to it?
@@darkcylander the reaction. It happened in the RWBY fandom, too, where an on-screen relationship between two characters who had genuine chemistry caught backlash because fans shipped one of the pair in a different, gay pairing. In RWBY, the creators actually caved to the pressure and gave fans their OTP and the whole thing feels so forced it's like they're sticking a middle finger to the fans that wanted it in the first place. So everyone loses, and now RT is shut down.
@@chuckgunn3086 I wasn't asking about RWBY, I was asking if the commenter what they were referring to as pathetic. 🤨

I was in awe at the Oshi No Ko episode. Porygon never back 30 years later.
The endless eight is probably the most deserving of being on the list, but i do still give the production team props for having the balls to do that!
Endless Eight will always have a place in my heart for the sheer commitment to it. Like, I don't even care that it was a little frustrating. I think it's more controversial that any release after the original TV airing of the first season were in chronological order rather than broadcast order.
It completely destroyed what was an extremely popular series to that point. It was unbearable to endure in real time, week after week.
@@rwdplz1 I guess the fanbase was just weak and can't take a joke. Like they could barely handle the first season being out of order.
The Dragon Ball Super one and the one with the brother brushing his sister's teeth cracked me up.😅😂
I think blacklisting Porygon and it's evolutions is overkill considering it was Pikachu's fault for the seizures.
Shhhhhhhhhhh 😬
People complaining of Eren's emotial breakdown in the final episode are missing the entire point. Eren was a prisoner of his own destiny, it might sound absurd, because it kinda is, but he was basically obligated to do all he did even if he didnt want to, because 1-they couldnt think of a better way, 2- the vidisoins of his future were unchangeable regardless of what he did.
It was still sh1t and Eldians still got utterly wiped out by humanity. He literally could have been eaten by another Titan and change his destiny.
That redo of healer thumbnail nearly kills me 💀
Nah I loved the ending to Attack on Titan's ending.
Honestly, backlash from crazed shippers shouldn't even worth mentioning as a controversy, those people are from another planet.
Nina and her Table
Lelouch: "Getting taken off the Internet for this one."
That seems like child's play compared to what went on in Redo of Healer, though. A show that I'm pretty sure no one was unironically in the corner of from the beginning. We all knew it was a dumpster fire from go.
And to be fair, it was a nice boat.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Table-kun forgot all about Nina when Anna from Shimoneta came along.
@@ironbowtie To be fair, yeah. At least Anna knew what she was doing.
If at all.

ironically, the entirety of Interspecies Reviewers isn’t on this list, considering it was extra-spicy even by Funimation’s standards

6:00 iirc the reason why animators make food look good in anime started due to this.

Anyone who's gone through real clinical depression was not confused by the original ending of Eva. It makes perfect sense in that context.
Personally the only thing that enrages me is the controversy itself
People pointlessly go to the extreme and it is stupid every time.
@@scizoreon4068 exactly I really hate that too much is censored because of a bunch of snowflakes
Same here.
I actually thought the Rising false allegation was a good idea. We often saw that trope happen and we sometimes see the males ACTUALLY do stuff like that.
It happens in real life all the time, but feminists who scream "believe all women" and say "women never lie" were the ones mad
Never believe women.

It's also Relatively Topical in the "Vtuber" scene, With what happened to a now Ex-member of an English branch in a corpo Vtuber company recently.

I was wondering where the 'toothbrush' scene would end up.
Thanks for so interesting and valuable video as always ❤❤❤
You want "fan controversy"? Just mention Lucky Star to an 00's anime fan, and see whether he still develops that traumatized eye-twitch at the very mention of...."Chocolate cornets".
And I'll wager nobody here even REMEMBERS the "Garlic (pizza) Wars" that erupted when the studio offered to re-animate some visual Westerrnized cultural translations for Disney X-D's dub of the 10's Doraemon reboot. You'd think it was Kiki being served "cocoa" instead of coffee.
I see a consistent dodge of the "R" word and any related terms.

I can’t believe you used Redo of Healer for the thumbnail
Shield hero and goblin slayer are still two of my favorite Anime's

I'm surprised Elfen Lied didn't make the list. I feel like that should be pretty high up on the "fucked up" ranking and it's a freaking classic as well.
the scenes from EOE were *not* in the original broadcast version of 25/26; just the dvd releases.
the bigger controversy is the rabid fanbase sending death threats to gainax.

"Redo of Healer isn't even viewable in some countries, and that's probably for the best" so much for a professional and unbiased take...
Puritans and censors from the West are ruining anime. Now they are changing entire conversations and dialog to the point where the story makes zero sense..
I remember there was quite some outrage about Berserk, specifically for what happened to Casca.
If I could go back an un-watch Berserk, I would.
What’s the background music for this video?
Lol you start off with the end of Attack on Titan yet no Spoiler alert ahead of that? xD I think there will be a lot of fellow otaku who have been busy with real life who might not even go through the very first minute of your video xD
You'd think most of these moments can be summed up in one word: "Onii-chan."
Most of these were cried about by people that were never going to watch them anyways. American Puritans always have to have something to complain about to justify their existence.
This list makes sense at times, at other times it is absurd, notably:
-Tokyo Ghoul: Ship at your risk.
Where controversy is notably merited:
-The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: My undergrad degree was in film and media, and I deeply respect the creators for what they did to convey to the audience what a time loop could do, with it paying off huge dividends with the movie The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, completely explaining what was in effect a character going insane because of it.
I loved Redo of Healer so much it’s very entertaining, definitely deserves a season 2

What? Not a single moment from Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation? I thought that that would a shoe-in.
Yeah seeing what rudeus and eris did when rudeus turned 10 got me shocked
Nice scene 👌 😊
The Endless Eight is a masterpiece and no one can change my mind.
Sure, it was agonizing and annoying, but it made the end of it feel so great
It is a masterpiece because puts you in the spot of nagato and what she felt after living endless 8 so many times, after that you can tell why she did what she did in the movie.
Out of curiosity, why have you guys stopped using dubbed scenes from anime more often?
Hard to get accurate dubs of controversial scenes with what localizers have been doing over the last decade.
@@jacara1981I doubt that’s the reason. Probably has more to do with copyright. Western companies hold the rights to English dubbed versions and are much more likely to file a DMCA request than the Japanese companies that hold the original Japanese version
If these are the most controversial…you don’t watch anime.
I remember when anime fans didn't need a warning much of the anime we oldtaku grew up on was just like goblin slayer which is a great show imho
Puritans and censors from the West are entirely too influential now. Makes us look lame.
That thumbnail though 😂
Osomatsu-san for making a parody of Anpanman, while certain manga has the guy with inverted colors getting success without issues
NICE BOAT
I knew that the Sword Art Online one would be on this list. When I watched it after it came out, I had needed a couple hours to gather my bearings. It was one of the darkest moments I have ever seen from the anime but I knew that some anime went darker. They had put the content warning at the start of that episode in question, but even with that, I wasn't the most prepared.
after hearing the redo of healer controversy in this, i saw it and regretted it. i wanted to throw my headphones off and slam my face onto the desk.
redo of healer is actually pretty cool.
yeah sure you gotta understand what you are getting into, but looking through all that the story is pretty unique.
6:35 - MY CABBAGES!!
How is redo of healer Number three and not number one
Because Pokemon Porygon and Evangelion exist. You should be glad they didn't include Berserk and "I love Emilia" because it would be number 5 if those were included
@@edd868 The one from Berserk still gives me nightmares
Even after all the times I watched Code Geass, Nina violating the table will forever be a dark mark on the series itself.
left a dark mark on her dress too
Redo of Healer is fun for the whole family
Correction: Redo of Healer is fun for the right-wing family.
That's right, I am not afraid to say that Redo of Healer panders to right-wing people.

The most controversial things in anime: rape, seizures, and budget constraints.
... Yeah, that sounds about right.
Before even watching I knew Shield Hero and Goblin Slayer would be on the list
I had to keep reassuring people during those first few repeats "no, no, Kyoto Animation wouldn't have done Haruhi-Chan the previous year if they weren't going to do new episodes now."
The biggest victim here is "The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya" which had to follow Endless Eight but still not be Disappearance.
Also why the hell did they choose the ending of the Eva series for #1 when the hospital room scene exits lmao
Redo of Healer strikes again! Around 2 weeks after its appearance on the other countdown, here they go again!
And that banner too.
The new animation in Dragon Ball Super is just not the same as the Dragon Ball animation from the past.
Top 20 times Transformers: Unicron Trilogy was censored, please?
Ppl getting offende couse kaneki was not gay is fuckin hilarious 😂
Missed Opportunity: "Where's the Anime?" - "Uzumaki"
The toothbrush scene will never not be funny to me.
