I’ll be two years old when the old picture was taken and have many happy memories walking up town with my mother in the sixties and being fascinated by the double decker buses going through the Stonebow … barely enough clearance 😂
I have many happy childhood memories of town, but that one occasion when I lost my Mum for a second or two and was almost hit by a double decker has stuck with me for decades :(
@@lightanddreamsphotography7140 I bet you can remember running for the bus and swinging on the bar at the back and getting on …. Fond memories of doing that , and being told off by the bus conductor 😂
I would have been 2 too! But I didn’t come to live in the area until I was 7 (Waddington then, North Hykeham later) I remember the pedestrianisation being done and fantasizing about rollerskating all over it, which I never did. I don’t have any memories of what it looked like before, so this is an amazing time slip for me. I agree that the area looks so much better now, it makes the buildings stand out so you can enjoy them rather than them disappearing into a long anonymous high street (apart from the Stonebow of course)
Yes a great day out. Look out for their open days too when you can be driven round town in old buses and vintage cars. My kids and I have done that many times

I remember the doomsayers predicting that pedestrianisation would kill the city centre. Of course it did the opposite, and made it much safer too.
There appears to be be a building site lower left.. ??
Yes, as described in the info under the video "On the left you can see the construction of the then new British Home Stores shop, now Boots". :)
I must find time to check out the old bus museum down whisby road
It’s more than buses! It’s a fantastic place to visit 👍

Truefit shoe shop? And is TFE 70 a Series 6 Morris Oxford?
I think you could be right on both counts.
