I am Light and Dreams Photography, an award winning photographer based in the beautiful historic city of Lincoln in the east of England. I hope to use my TH-cam channel to highlight my work in video form, rather than still photographs. I am currently working on a major project of time shift images around Lincoln, combining old and new photographs to show the changes. I have a Parrot Bebop 2 drone, and will also upload some aerial footage from time to time, along with the occasional time lapse videos. There might also be some photographic tutorials, both outside with the camera and postprocessing. Any support and constructive criticism will always be gratefully received.

Take two trips back in time at Monks Abbey play park, Lincoln
มุมมอง 2182 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Well here we are in the East End of Lincoln again, back at Monks Abbey indeed, But this time the focus isn't the ancient monument of the abbey itself. Instead this double time shift looks at the children's play area over a time span of much more than a century. I don't know any details about the play area, apart from knowing it well from my time living in the area back in the 1980s and '90s. I ...

#lincoln #thenandnow #history #nostalgia I've made lots of time shift videos of Lindum Hill, but it is a long time since I found an old photo that I'd not seen before. The wonderful colourised old photo here is undated, but I reckon it could be as old as late 19th century? It is certainly before cars became common and started to dominate our streets. I've said many times that the only big thing...

Travel back to the early 20th century on the River Witham in the centre of Lincoln
มุมมอง 16812 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
#lincoln #thenandnow #nostalgia #timetravel I managed to mess-up the video I had planned for today so I had to revisit an old one at the last minute instead. This is actually a reworking of a four year old video from the early days of this project. It shows a view across the River Witham in the centre of Lincoln from Waterside South. On the left you can see Mayfield Bridge, with the undated old...
Travel back in time to discover the abbey that gave Monks Road, Lincoln its name
มุมมอง 44814 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
#lincoln #thenandnow #history #nostalgia We went months without visiting this part of Lincoln, and now we've been here twice in a few days! Last time we went back to the mid 19th century to see Monks Lane, the rural looking precursor to Monks Road. Today we don't go back quite as far, but we do see the old abbey ruins that gave the area its name. Until I made this time shift I knew little about...

Take a deep trip back in time to discover Monks Lane, Lincoln
มุมมอง 42319 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
We haven't been in the East End of Lincoln for a while, so this spectacular trip down Monks Road is long overdue Much of the Monks Road district today is a product of the later nineteenth century and early twentieth century. But the line of the road dates back to Roman times, and was almost certainly connected to the lower East Gate of Lindum Colonia. Early maps of the district indicate that th...
What would you see on Silver Street, Lincoln, if you went back to 1973?
มุมมอง 38221 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
I'm not going to write much about this time shift, many people don't seem to read it anyway. Suffice to say that the old photo is from 1973. When the old photo is in colour it never feels that long ago, but this was 51 years ago and a very different, but familiar world to many of us :)

Lincoln has had many markets over the centuries, scattered across the city, not just in what we think of as the traditional market area of Sincil Street and the Cornhill. This collection of five time shifts features a market that you will have seen many times before in my videos, in fact the first four here have all been posted before, but the final one is new. Well here we are today back looking at "Boots Corner" on Lincoln High Street. I had hoped to include the old photo here in my previous time shift of this junction with Clasketgate, but I couldn't get a new photo to match so left it for another day. Does anyone know when the Smiths Crisps was built, as my fathers family lived in a house called Hawthorne Villas on that site. good video.
If in doubt use the search facility to find specific videos, and you'll see it was built in 1937 :)
Oh my gosh this is the house I have lived in for 16 years. We always wondered what the original house looked like when it was a whole house and not split. We live in the left half.
Wow such a small world, this video is really stirring memories :)
I lived in the house oin the middle!
What a coincidence, thanks for watching :)
Love this one. My parents lived in the house on the left of the picture for many years. They would have been huge fans of your channel had they still been around ❤
Wonderful memories, thanks for sharing, I was hoping this one would be popular :)
Did they live in the one on the other side of the road ?
It looks like a good few houses were lost in order to build the Usher Gallery.
Well one at least, but I always assumed that it was a park before and after?
Me and my mate used to go down Cannon Street and watch them demolish the old back-to-backs .. we were just kids and apparently it was 1966 …(l saw something in the Echo).
I was a West End kid, so I missed all that. I never knew the Monks Road area until the 80s when I moved down that way.
Nothing gets better unfortunately
I think a lot of things are better now, in fact I'd say that present day Lincoln is much nicer than the Lincoln of my childhood. It is all pros and cons, but the only big thing that was really better in the past was the level of traffic. Cars are a blight on the modern world :(
Only once made use of the old, railway footbridge.. for the hell of it.. years of regret if I hadn't..🤣
It played a major part of my early childhood, standing on it waiting for a steam train :)
we lived in Montague St in 1959 til the late 60s. I used to go to a Co-op for my Mum which was closeby I suppose it would be the Coningsby St branch and I can remember the inside of the shop as clear as day. I think my Mums share number was 596401
Yes the Coningsby Street one sounds about right. It's amazing how many people can remember "divi numbers" :)
I think I remember the cinema as the Savoy. Also remember going in the Spotted Cow milk bar .
Yes it was the Savoy too. I've done a full history of the cinema in it's own videos :)
Good work. What an unbelievable transformation, and without wanting to sound critical, a rather depressing one too.
Thanks. I don't see it as negative, just the transition of our country from rural to urban after the industrial revolution?
Have you seen @marc freemans amazing photos of Lincoln? Maybe you could get in touch with him to do a collaboration with him just a surgestion?
Very much appreciate all your hard work. It’s nice to see in Lincoln that we’ve still got some iconic buildings even though they’re in disguise today
Thanks again. Yes there is a lot more of old Lincoln than many people think, just hiding in plain sight
Thanks for the Time travel experience! I don’t live in Lincoln but have visited many times.
My pleasure, thanks for watching :)
Football on the abbey, barked at from the keepers.. off to Sellars for some chips, climbing into the ruins looking for fossils..watching the cooling towers and the coal heap at the power station getting smaller during the 1973 miners strike…
My most stressful memory of the Abbey was getting my dog through there and down to the river without her leaving a "deposit" near the kids play area in the 80s :)
When does a lane transition to a road I wonder?
It seemed to be when the area was built up, but I think it is all a bit random?
Middle left of the modern picture is the former Monks rd working men’s club which was opposite the now lost bowling club.. The area is shadow of the past when there were lots of small shops and businesses plus hundreds of men getting off the works buses for a shift at the forge. I lived here 1961-78.
Coningsby St.. never heard of it, which is odd, as I would, occasionally, attend services at Lincoln Baptist Church. Not convinced that the tatty garages have improved the ambience of the area. Bailgate Coop.. now has me thinking about duck in oyster sauce.. Enjoyable theme!
Haha excellent :)
Who else can remember a Co-op Butcher's shop next to a cinema south of St Marks Station. My uncle worked there just after WW2. I can also remember my Mother's Co-op number - 26734
I can't remember a butcher, but the cinema would be The Ritz, now Wetherspoons :)
Not my part of town but you've reminded me of dividend stamp books. Are they still in operation? Seems so. Green Shield stamps are long gone. Ah! The future is nostalgia.
@@Unmasking_Viandalisme I don't think there are dividend stamps anymore but you can get divi points on a card :)
@@lightanddreamsphotography7140 Dang! I was almost tasting the glue..
@@Unmasking_Viandalisme I still got a book of Greenshield stamps in my man cave somewhere😂
Backing music has strong Blade Runner vibes 🦄
Haha, shame the video isn't more like Blade Runner :)
Fascinating, knew a few straight away 😊
Well done, lots of them are a bit obscure :)
Great work just excellent
Thanks, most appreciated :)
I didn’t know that bit was called Monks lane
Most people probably don't :)
Crikey, that's an enormous difference!
Probably the biggest in any of these videos?
I used to live where the people are standing near the pedestrian crossing
I was on Hillside Avenue for most of the 80s and 90s and walked down here most days...
Thanks for that research It’s amazing how a lot of Lincoln was started to be built up in the late 19th century I know one House has got 1897 down West Parade on it
The railways caused a hug expansion. The house I was born in on May Crescent was built in 1898 I think :)
@@pipandkitty2004 There is a house on Monks Road with the same date
What year was the church demolished?
1932
Thank you. My dad remembered that but somebody called him a liar. He would have been 7 years old. So easily would have recalled that.
Absolutely wonderful 👏 Thank you 🙏
My pleasure, thanks for watching :)
The co op stores both sides of the road! The lovely toy department in the basement taking the little ones to see santa
I remember when the co-op had the big fire too
@ yes I remember that, also when the new co op building opened on the right side of silver street my school friends and I got stuck in the lift!
@@AF-wr9hx That's something that often worried me about some old rickety shop lifts :(
@@AF-wr9hx
Im wondering if you could do a slow, cross-screen wipe, to go from old to new?
I tried that in the early days and didn't think it worked as well as the fade in and out merges that I do most of the time.
A "modern", C plate double decker sporting a Binks for Bikes ad.. perfect. And St Mark's station makes sense now that I know 'twas once a terminus.. with a full canopy. Lion & Snake 1977- Foster's @ 34p/pt. Don't recall the place having great ale but haven't visited for ~30yrs.
I always find the old buses fascinating. The Lion and Snake was never my kind of pub. I was too busy in the Strugglers or Victoria :)
I used to find those collection boxes @ 2.50 slightly disturbing when I was a child. Still enjoying the videos.
I remember being terrified of double deckers on the High Street when I was a little lad!
First time ive seen a picture of the building next to the Castle Hill Club, any idea what it was or what happened to it etc?
It was called Castle Hill House and has featured in several of my videos. If you use the search facility you'll find out more about it. It was demolished in the 30s I think?
Fond, childhood memories of Newport & Bailgate, & later, the Central Library. The merging will never get old..
Thank-you, most appreciated :)
Amazing stuff! Just wanted to let you know I come on here every day to watch your videos - you’re always top of my search bar! I find it really relaxing and it also makes me pay attention more to my surroundings when I’m walking around Lincoln. Being able to imagine the past. My family get fed up of me saying “do you know what used to be here?” 🤣
That's wonderful, thank-you so much I really appreciate that. I had to laugh out loud at your last sentence because I think my son feels the same about me! :)
I'm starting to get worried... I seem to be remembering the monochrome images more and more. :D
Most of them still seem to be before my time :)
First I have managed to see and must say I enjoyed it, very impressive 😊
Thank-you, most appreciated, I hope you like the other ones too :)
@@lightanddreamsphotography7140 will definitely be watching those ASAP 👍

Does anyone remember the excellent Berardi's, an Italian restaurant aboove what is now Caffe Nero? There in the 70s/80s maybe later. The entrance was in the alley
Remember it well, had several meals there.
Yes I used to go there too :)
Me and my grandparents lived here for 5 years around 2005. Beautiful house, I was only 13 at the time but was terrified as my bedroom was just down the hall from the chapel inside the house. I use to run down the hall to the bathroom every time as I was so scared! Amazing now reading all the history behind it.
Must have been an amazing place to live!
What was that building with the horse and carriage in front
Depends which horse and carriage, there are a few :)
Now that was a shame, they demolished 2 buildings of merit and replaced them with buildings of almost no merit at all
And no one can blame 1960s planners for these :(
Was that an old Black Mariah police vehicle on the right of one picture?
Yes I think so...
always makes me feel deeply sad.
Not as sad as the US election result :(
I really enjoyed that..well done.
My pleasure, thanks for watching :)
Absolutely superb 👌
Wonderful Work and much appreciated as always, many thanks
My pleasure, thanks for the support :)
Superb it’s as if you’ve been transported back in time .. particularly if you remember some of the old buildings !!!!! 😊thanks again for going these time shifts because It must be very time consuming. Many thanks
Thanks again Darren. These are quite time consuming as I'm not as used to doing the pan and zoom stuff, but I'm getting better :)
How long before technology sees people moving around in the photos.. l have seen a couple of AI generated images bringing people back to life?
Yes I'm sure there will be simple free plug-ins soon. I don't like the use of AI in photos, too much cheating going on :(
I knew people would like these, amazing really.
