I remember my father and one of his friends making a list of all the pubs in lincoln that they could remember from the top of Burton Road down to the gate house. It was one hell of a list
When I first started work in the mid 1970s a couple of old guys said they'd heard that there used to be a pub in Lincoln for every day of the year. I'm not sure how true that was, but there were certainly a lot! This website is a useful guide www.closedpubs.co.uk/lincolnshire/lincoln.html
That certainly used to be true of Louth. My Dad promised himself a pint in every pub on the old Roman road - Wagon and Horses to Lincoln Imp, if he recovered from his cancer ….. what a day that was🍻
Yes I miss some of the pubs that have closed more than anything else in Lincoln. But on the plus side some wonderful new ones have opened, and even a few very old ones have come back, such as The Cardinals Hat, which is currently my favourite local pub.
Nice one! The Bull & Chain + The Turk's Head were in my patch. I've fond memories also of evenings with B.Grot students in The (characterless) Lark. Reminiscing with some Old Speckled Hen..🥴
Thanks. Ironically The Lark is on my list for a future time shift, but of course it was never a very old pub anyway, and I don't think I ever went in it :)
@@lightanddreamsphotography7140 You missed nothing!😄 'The Lark was situated on Newport. This pub was built in 1963 on the site of the demolished College Inn. It closed in January 2006 and has now been demolished and replaced by flats.'
@@lightanddreamsphotography7140 Thankfully, the Lion & Snake (Bailgate) remains.. had my 1st half pint of lager(!?) there as a nervous, slightly underage teen. Thanks for helping me to visualize my past.. '60s onward.
Thanks. We have lost a lot of wonderful pubs over the years, just as everywhere has as drinking habits have changed, but we have also gained some fantastic new pubs. My favourite Lincoln pub today is The Cardinal's Hat, which ironically was a pub in the 1500s, but for most of it's history has been everything but a pub, until recently again.
Back in the early 70’s … It was always said that it would take a good man to start at the top of high st and have 1/2 pint in every pub till you reach South Park. My guess is you would be well and truly pizzed …
Staggering that you almost posted three a relative had in the order he had them there John, The Bulls Head, The Black Boy and Durham Ox, only the Crown and Cushion spoiled the run. My grandmother lived in the rear yard of the Turks Head for a while in what I believe was an old caravan or railway carriage type thing that used to be the accommodation provided for traveling workers (often Irish), lodging in the area.
Ayup mate, didn't see the reindeer, roebuck, lincoln arms, hop pole, roaring meg, bowling green, burton arms, duke of wellington or the oddfellows in there, probably didn't have old pictures? Great piece though and brought back a ton of memories. Keep it up
Great to see so many pubs
Yes some great ones gone. Luckily some great new ones have opened in recent years.
Loving this channel. Great content
Thanks, most appreciated
@@lightanddreamsphotography7140 I live in Lincoln. Absolutely love the history of the city. It’s incredible.
@@lefoxmethodstudiouk Yes, I'm Lincoln born and bred, went away briefly to university, but came back and stayed. Fair to say I love my city :)

I remember the Lark - had the best pies!
Always nice to know about pub pies :)
Great video , Beautiful Pubs, streets, Shops, people and houses ----- replaced with Garbage structures and spaces not pleasing to the eye.

@@lightanddreamsphotography7140 be nice to see how it looked in the 1500's. Not got a snap?? 😆
Well I can't agree to all you say!
Sad to see the pubs I once knew and visited but now gone, and really interesting to see those I never knew..

Hah I must try better next time :)
i lived in Sincil bank in Lincoln for 3 years ..great city...back in late eighties...
I left before 1970 and still miss it all, bad mistake...
I was a taxi driver in the early 90's to mid 90's collecting and dropping off a lot of these places that are sadly long gone now :(

Cheers, thanks for the kind words, most appreciated. Most of the pubs you mention feature in other time shifts, put them into the search feature :)
What's a pub?.
A pub is a place that serves alcohol drinks ... pub is short for public house.
If you don't know now maybe you never will !!
