Nick and DiMA are two of the most genuine characters so far.
Is it just me or are Nick's facial animations like 1,000 times better here than in the commonwealth? I went back and rewatched his parts twice, because it really seems like he's *talking*. The animators got the lip-synch and expressions spot on!

From my understanding, mechanically, both are simply Gen 2's, and the experiment was seeing if one could accept a memory upload from a human, and the other was a test to see if Gen 2's could develop sentience.
perhaps the lights in his eyes are just broken and not his actual eyes
It's possible he can still see but the lights burned out over time as synth eyes on older ones probably don't function like human's
For those wondering, yes. You can prove to Nick that DiMA is his brother and then after choosing the right dialogue options (I say that as I only went the route encouraging him to do so) make him reconcile with DIMA for this conversation.
On a side note, me finding out DiMA was Nick's brother was what made me decide that DiMA had to live as Nick needed some family, he was pretty lonely.....

Why does Nick's voice suddenly get all low pitch? It sounds super weird.
+spacesandshark I noticed that too. The voice actor's voice probably changed a bit somehow in between recording for the main game and for Far Harbor. Either that or he couldn't remember how to get back in the same register as before.

Stephen Russell (the actor who voices Nick) also did the voice of DiMA, so maybe he chose to do Nick's voice in a lower register for the DLC in order to create a stronger contrast between the two characters.

Also just because that happened, it doesn't mean he did it. He has a lot of power. It's possible the replacement did it, or someone else he has control over, not him.
Hm...I wonder if there's any special dialogue in either of those sequences if you're the director of the Institute, or if there's even something you can find about Nick and DiMA as the director.
I sided with the Institute at the end of my game. When I talked to DIMA one of my responses was that I was with the Institute. I could even start a quest that allowed me to tell the Institute about the secret synth colony.
I could do something similar with the Brotherhood, but it wasn't so much a quest as it was a miscellaneous objective. I imagine more may have come from it if I had actually reported back to Captain Kells like I was supposed to, but screw him; I had more important shit to do.
TheCloudWing Yeah, you can clearly do something with all three. After beating the DLC, I finally went back and told Lancer Captain Kells about the colony, and - big surprise here - he immediately started talking about how big of a threat it is,and blah, blah, black, Brotherhood bigotry.
Upon getting the quest "Search and Destroy" to pop up, I loaded up my last autosave, and didn't go back.
let's not forget you can choose to help the institute or destroy it so that's why they won't say 'i am in charge of the institute' because it's too much dialog for the developers
I purposely haven't finished the main campaign so I could play all the dlcs and perfect my settlement and such and right now I'm with the railroad and brotherhood playing both sides and it gave me options to say I was a part of both
And now I can rest easy knowing that's not Nick

Kind of interesting having the DLC get a Nick's history story! Kind of has a bit of the Star Trek: The Next Generation Android feel to this.
first time did this i met dima with piper then after hearing nick in the memory i took him straight there to get an answer and dima reacted first saying “wait that synth, i know him” or smth like that

The "proof" that Valentine needs is a memory on a holotape from the Acadia quest "Best Left Forgotten" (I think it was the 3rd or 4th puzzle). Some extra dialogue can be exchanged for Valentine from thereon.

I got like, legitimately sad when I was in DiMA's memory banks, and I heard the playback of him and Nick fighting, especially when they, well, actually started to fight, like it sounded like they got into a scuffle, wish they had actually like, showed that, but then again it's only a memory, and Bethesda's animators would've been too lazy animate it

I was worried this was going to be a really cliche plot twist, but it's actually really damn interesting.
I originally took Nick with me until Longfellow took his place. We should have had more than one followers that could travel with us for this reason exactly.
I did the first memory, thought "I'll talk to DiMA about this one, then do the next ones" and got him shot in the face. I felt so bad with Nick finally accepting DiMA after the fourth memory.

I still find it funny that Codsworth, a Mister Handy, is capable of remembering everything from 200 hundred years ago and Nick - a practical metal person - can't manage 100.
I mean in Codsworth's case he only had a few encounters with people compared to Nick, one could argue Codsworth deleted the "junk" data so he didn't forget Sole Survivor's family. Nick can't do that since he's sentient and I doubt he can do the same

When going through dimas memory banks you hear an audio log with Nick and DiMA. DiMA is talking to nick saying how he's his brother and everything. I won't say more go find it!!!
Remember when I first saw DiMA I knew I had to take Nick with me(I'm a 'Lone' Wanderer, not really alone I have Dogmeat) Damn right I was, witnessed best conversations ever
I fucking hate DiMA for making me suffer through the memory hacking levels! They were such pain in the ass! I was happy to see him being gunned down. Only I didn't expect there to be genocide of the Synths in Arcadia.
Piece of advice, if valentine ever dies, then if your on console, download the cheat terminal, if you have access to the console commands (pc) then do this with either, so first, activate companion essentials (if he wasn’t equipped as a companion when he died, then your kinda screwed) then tp him to you, deactivate them, fast travel somewhere, then bring him again, at this point, he just stands repeating dialogue, then go the kenji, then , again, tp valentine, this should activate the dialogue, then after that, talk to valentine, you will have to re-follow thingy, basically tell him to follow you, even if you had him as a follower , that’s how to fix if valentine dies before getting to the nanako residence
(Edit, he still is kinda buggy, idk what to do after , like making him not stand still)

there is more to this, if you follow the Dima story-line, at one point you'll uncover a recording of one of DiMA's memories, that proves him and Nick have a past.

I like how I miss all of this stuff because I chose the bad ending with destroying the children of atom and storming Acadia. One point I got the institute involved.
