  • We're launching the ‘Aer Lingus Future Pilot Programme’ - a fully-sponsored, fully-mentored training platform, for aspiring pilots.
    We have a rich history of supporting first-time pilots and over the last five years have trained and mentored over 50 pilots, all of whom are working for us as commercial pilots, as we continue to expand and develop new routes. We now fly to more than 100 destinations across UK, Europe and North America.
    The successful candidates must excel during an intensive 14-month training programme. The recruits of 2018 will begin their aviation career as a First Officer in 2020 on our brand new Airbus A320 and A321neo long-range aircraft.
    Applicants are invited to apply online via the Aer Lingus careers website www.aerlingus.com/careers/car.... The closing date for applications is 5pm, Sunday 13th May 2018.
    Book cheap flights online today with Aer Lingus. Fly from Ireland to Britain, Europe and North America including Canada with us as well as find hotels and more.

    Currently 15 right now, but it has been my main goal and childhood dream to become a pilot in the aviation industry. If I can't become a pilot for Aer Lingus, I'll try my luck for the Irish Air Corps. Looking forward to hopefully fly with this airline!

    In 1985, while a Boeing support engineer, on an almost two year engineering research program, which included a 'participating' Aer Lingus, I was asked by the airline to consider becoming a pilot for them, during the next cycle of hiring (turned out to be 1987). I declined, which is my life's first mistake.

      It's free. The airline covers 100% of the cost of training. In return you must commit to working for the airline for at least 7 years. If you leave before the 7 years is up you are obliged to pay a portion of the cost of your training. After 7 years you are free to work elsewhere.

    Biggest limitation in my case is money, I’d probably be able to do Cessna training here at Cork already, but I just don’t have enough, I’ve been at multiple simulator sessions(I’m only 18 now) and I impressed the instructor supervising it.. my night landings were top notch, without any auto pilot(I know simulator is different)
    If I had the money I’d probably not even finish school and just go to AFTA to do the Cessna and then apply to Aer Lingus, they have pilots who rank in the best of the best as far as I heard

    • @CianMcsweeney
      @CianMcsweeney 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      It's always been around that amount of time, it's one of the most intense course in any field in the world, the training also doesn't stop after the 18 months, flying is very much a job you learn by doing and on top of that every year every single pilot is brought in for simulator testing to make sure they can handle various emergencies etc

    • @losedarkhorse
      @losedarkhorse 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Joined British Airways during 2000, my course took 18months with Oxford Aviation based in Oxfordshire. Course contents has changed ie due to the change in eu aviation law and etc but the duration has been pretty much same 18 to 20 months unless you are having to retake any part of the course due to exam failure. Now as a captain of A380 I still believe strongly that the course is set within right time structure. In fact with so much resources around it could be cut to 14-16 months. I have visited a few flying schools recently to monitor the training standard on behalf of a particular operator and I found most of the training establishments has similar structure and timeframe. The exams are still of very high standards so unless you pass them you are not going to qualify regardless of the time structures set by individual schools.

    • @bla855
      @bla855 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Knight Rider .. I'm just speaking as a chap who joined a major airline back in the early 90's as a cadet..now back then we had 3-4 years of hard grafting to undertake..and now as a TRE for the last 10 plus years I see the standard drop and drop as years go by ..I even believe these programmes that flight schools have are not even hands on flying just PT11 time which is complete madness if you ask me AND not to mention the Bristol atpl click click ground school .joke .

    • @losedarkhorse
      @losedarkhorse 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      bla855 I guess standard varies from school to school. I joined BA around 2000, my training took place during 1992 partly sponsored by then Air UK. We did ground school here in UK but the actual flying or majority of it took place down under in Perth. The total cost for the training was around £33000, half paid by me and half by Air UK. It took me around 18months to complete even then. However I understand some school from those era we’re offering courses lasting two or even three years, I remember those ones and they had some kind of university degree built in to the course too. In general from my recent UK and European school visits I have learnt that courses they are offering currently comply with all regulations and requirements so I have no issues with them. The whole industry has been going through a huge shakeups and training schools had to adopt to stay in the contentions. I have seen 20years old walking into flightdeck on a regular basis on BA flights and they have the right attitude backed up by the required technical knowhow. I have full faith and confidence on them and their abilities. In 90’s anyone under the age of 25 walking to the flight deck would have been a shock but with time the industry has moved on. Thank you.

      Knight Rider Crikey! I wish it had only cost me £33K, and I did it my self in the late eighties!
      Seems you got lucky Theo (I checked who was this junior chap on the 380 :D ), but as to your points, agree entirely - though I do think it’s a massive mistake to stick kids straight onto a fly-by-wire jet, where all you’re doing is pointing it (and yes, I flew the ‘Bus for 11 years, now on the ‘plastic fantastic’) - bring back Highlands & Islands and teach the kids how to fly properly!
      Maybe an opportunity here, with FlyBe up for sale?
