I'm planning my own sim and your videos have been really really helpful. I'm UK based but reckon most of what you said and did transfers to this side of the pond. Cheers !
Great video, super helpful. Would I be able to achieve the same flush even look with the Sig Pro Super Softy + gym tiles + money putt turf? It looks like the Super Softy rubber base might leave a little gap. Would love to know your thoughts. Thanks!
Yes, the super softy is going to be higher so you could do the same thing but you'd have to figure out something to make up the difference in height. In this video: th-cam.com/video/yD6dXMMSFLM/w-d-xo.html I say the total height is about 2.75". As far as the gap I think you could just cut your turf where it meets the turf on the the mat and not the rubber edge. It might fall into the gap a little bit but I think it would still look decent. Good luck!
Great video! What would be an alternative to the putting turf you used? I dont plan on putting on the turf so wondering if you have some ideas. thank you!
Thank you! If you're not planning on putting you could probably pick up some artificial turf from Home Depot. I don't think they have actual "putting" turf but the stuff they have should work well to keep the ball from bouncing and rolling too much. Anything you get locally will be cheaper without having to pay for shipping.
Take a piece of scrap wood large enough to stand on (say 2'x2' piece of plywood) and drill your cup hole through it first. Then place it where you want to cut your turf/foam and stand on it while using it as a guide for the hole saw. It will keep the hole saw from moving while also keeping the turf beneath from moving too. And always keep the hole saw at full speed and ease it into the turf. You want it to cut, not grab.
Thanks! You definitely can do it with just a strip and that's probably more common. The only downside is you can wear down your turf where you stand. In my case I already owned the whole mat so I just used the whole thing.
Whoops. Here it is. I used the 1.25" depth - onestopsimshop.com/collections/putting-cups/products/shallow-putting-cups-real-bottom?variant=37909590769821
Just got the golf sim! Partly thanks to your incredible content. Can you advise the manufacturer for the rubber threshold on your edges? They are safe and smart to prevent the trip hazard.
Thanks, glad it's been helpful! I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to because I haven't added any rubber to the edges. The only thing I've done is pushed some gutter foam against the edges to stop golf balls from rolling off. It's not attached and I had it left over from the edges of my Carl's place enclosure. I would like to add something more permanent soon...
@@friendly_golfer and it doesn’t move when you swing long irons and drivers. If not, I suspect the weight of the turf over the distance you’re covering serves as support. I’m going to mimic your setup but double up on the 1” gym mats and then put the turf on top around the SIGPRo softy mat.
I don't swing on the putting turf. I have the 4x7 SIGPro Softy mat so I cut the whole mat into the floor and the turf stops at the mat. I do think the turf is heavy enough to stay in place though...
One more question. What is your opinion of the money putt putting green vs the big moss? I’m looking into both and there’s about a grand difference in the big moss (more expensive). Big moss claims to have gradual slope technology (GST) which is interesting but not sure it’s worth a thousand more.
Would you have considered getting just the softy hitting strip and then making this custom mat around it - my concern is around the actual foot turning and torque ripping up the custom mat/green if I go down this path. But it’s a lot cheaper cost wise vs the full 4x7 softy. Any thoughts?
Personally I didn't because I already had the 4x7 mat but I have definitely heard from people that they ended up with a visible wear spot on the turf where they stand. You could also buy a cheaper stance mat from amazon or something to drop in next to the strip. That could potentially save a few hundred $$.
I prefer using the full mat so you know you have a stable and durable base under your feet. People that stand on the putting turf say they get wear spots on it from their feet. I’d rather not worry about it.
If I were to do it again I would do it just like this with money putt built in and flush. The big moss is a great roll but I’m much happier with the all flush look I have now. I rarely practice putting in here though probably because I’m putting on the sim all the time.
@@friendly_golfer That's my thought too. I think indoor putting has limited benefits so I just don't see the need to put in a bunch of money on something that doesn't get used. Thanks and always enjoy your channel!
@@friendly_golfer still feel like it's the right call to use the full stance mat vs just cutting in an insert? I find it kind of frustrating that when using the better launch monitors with 20-28 inch wide hitting areas there aren't really any hitting strips/inserts/stance mats that have hitting areas that wide.
Enjoy your videos! I think I would have the gym tiles on top of the rigid foam. It might help with the dents.
Thanks! Yeah, I should have done that but was lazy and figured it would be good to see how the pink foam holds up under the turf.
Great video!
Thanks!

That makes sense! I'll try it if I decide to add the other cup. Thanks!
Yet another great video. I will say it seems like you really just need a hitting strip and build out around it as opposed to buying the 4x6 sig softie
Thanks! You definitely can do it with just a strip and that's probably more common. The only downside is you can wear down your turf where you stand. In my case I already owned the whole mat so I just used the whole thing.
You got it looking dialed my man. Well done.
Thanks! I’m happy with it

How did you affix your turf to the insulation/gym mats? Double sided tape or glue?
Nothing. Just layed it over the top and stretched it out.

@@loewendanno glue. It’s just sitting on top.

Thanks Hank!
Try cutting with drill & holesaw in reverse.
I tried some and didn't seem to make a difference. Someone else recommended dropping a plywood template over the turf to keep the saw in place.
How far away are you hitting into the screen?
About 11ft
Which do you like better - Big Moss or MoneyPutt?
