Man I remember when Jesse dropped his first album I was about 8 years old. My boy had that pink gangster suit with the pink guitar to match but it didn’t look fruity it looked gangster. He was definitely my first guitar hero and one of the main reasons I learned to play guitar when I got in my twenties. Jesse is cold. 💯
Yeah his attitude was gangster as well! Prince & Jesse allowed me to pick up the axe too! I was 16 & started my first and called it the Date LOL! We had a calendar on the back of a mirror and hollered out, WHATS THE DATE!? SOMEBODY BRING ME A CALENDAR! OH! WEE-OH-WEOHH! Peace fellow funkateer!
in 1984 I was 12yo, Prince's music and artistry blew me away on top of that my parent were divorcing + the feeling that after all there were other freaks like me, it turned me into an hardcore fan, and I did look down on Jesse's work just because Prince wasn't involved....I changed my mind during the COVID lockdown, plenty of time to listen music....Mr Jesse Johnson is a legit King ...
I think that Jesse in a league of his own! He is the most unappreciated and not mention over look guitarist in the music world! Yeah, a lot of guitarists can rock but can't get bluesy. Out of all his songs, nothing was more bluey than "I Want My Girl" and "I'm Just Wanting You!" Thank you, Jesse❣️ There's nothing like the blues❣️
WHAT REALLY MAKES ME PO!!! THIS IS ONE OF THE BADDEST FUNKIEST GUITARIST WALKIN THE PLANET! AND HAS NEVER BEEN INTERVIEWED IN ANY OF GUITAR PLAYER, GUITAR WORLD, GUITAR TECHNIQUES MAGAZINE'S!!!
This God in human form Jesse has been apart of me and my siblings life music wise since we were teens back in the 80's u cant get no better than this we truly came up on the damn best !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man, Jesse made great albums. Find them. They are still in my head on repeat. My brain still references his records. Thank you for producing and sharing with the world.
Jesse is still fine as ever!!! 👍😎 He's so cool... and he can play that guitar too!!! He's a masterful and powerful guitarist!!! funky licks galore!!! I'm a big fan of his music!!! 👍👑❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Huge fan of Jesse Johnson, one of the baddest guartist out there , yoshi is the spot , I was out there in 2015-2016 for 2 weeks luv the bay area, nothing but love for the west coast .💯💯💯💯💯
Initially, I was thinking the same thing. I can see Prince in Jesse J or maybe it was the other way around. It’s like they both influenced each other. Strange, but seems true. I can see it, I can feel it. Just listen. Do you know what I mean?
@@fabulousrobert6607 You get see the Prince influence. Even the way he groves is Prince-like . When first started playing Prince automatically came to mind.
I took my sister, RIP Fly Fede, to her 1st concert to see Jesse and we had front row seats right off the stage’s entrance. When Jesse was walking up the stairs to the stage, I told him that it was her 1st concert, so he came and performed every solo right in front of her. During one of the songs one of his white Stratocaster’s was having a problem and wasn’t working, so he took it off and slid to her, and like an idiot she gave it to the guitar tech. I told her that he was giving her the guitar, but she was to “Love Struck” to keep it. True story…
Being from The City (SF) I love this. Sorry I was out of town and missed the show. Keep up the great work Jesse. I love the fact you have my friend RonKat on Bass. Beautiful.
Wow! This has to be the best quartet live band I’ve ever heard so far… I kept checking to see if if there was more than four people playing. They are amazing!
I love Jesse Johnson. I saw him perform at the Fillmore in S.F. back in the day as well as with The Time at the Collision in Oakland. He's the real deal for sure, but let's also give it up for DJ Hi Top aka Dr Funk aka Miguel Fonseca a Bay Area Legend. You looking good Homie.❤

Civic Center (then in the 80s - who knows what it's called now) ..ANYHOW, the crowd wasn't into his solos or the music then.... Jesse & band STOPPED, he said " I'LL NEVER PLAY BALTIMORE AGAIN " ...slammed his guitar down and walked off...!! I was disappointed cuz I came to hear him play, but have seen other versions of The Time W/O HIM & wondered about the absence.... I even saw Babyface in the guitarist spot on TV with the band.!! The keyboard ? Jessie still got it and looks young . What bout that bass player.. he holding down the bottom..
Right on both counts, Bass holding that bottom all the way down 💣
