Daily drive is the current X3 M40i. It’s a great car. All I need, fast enough and big enough. (Used to drive a 1st gen X6 4.0d) Who really needs an X3M? Only issue is the exhausts in all European versions have an exhaust filter, so no pops and crackles. You also lose a bit of rear luggage space if you spec the spare wheel. I’d love an M badge on my front grille though.
I love the fact that from 99% of the comments here people compared the m40i to the new GV70. Not to Mercedes or audi. That just show how far Genesis has gone. And For 10k less it's a no brainer.
@@layne4376 i think that the GV70 has good enough preference, and it has nicer interior. Motor Trend choose the GV70 for the best SUV for a reason. And If you are looking for preference you don't choose an SUV.
I have a 2020 , which your previous M40i review sold me on. There are some cool things on the 22 , like the standard Sensatec seat is from the 5 series and the updated cockpit. The outside is no for me. I did test drive a base X5 at the same price but it was too big on the outside and not at all bigger on the inside. I like to dart around traffic so the X3 is perfect. The M sport "styling" I would have wanted on the X5 was like a 8k package and out of my range.
I have a 2021 and agree, i like the simplicity of the previous exterior. I'm not sure that hybrid system makes much of a difference either. I am leasing it-and was able to lockdown a good deal before the supply issues-but I may buy it out at the end. This is the last of the great straight six Bimmers for sure.
@@vladislavdimitrov4646 yes, some of the X3s made in SA are for the LHD markets and it's weird since I expect the driver on to be on the right side of the car and they're on the wrong side🤣
My wife has this exact vehicle, but black exterior with the cognac interior. The infotainment center does the weirdest stuff. You actually use hand gestures in front of the screen to control stuff without touching a knob. Like to raise the volune, you can move your finger in a circle.
@@Super1prettyboy Nope...just ordered a '23 x3 M40i...it will still have i Drive 7 and separate center screen; not the contiguous one on latest models..suspect that will come in the new "25 model out in mid-'24 (from what I hear anyway!)
A little tip for upcoming BMW videos: You can get stillstanding „levitating“ center logo caps which you can easily switch out. I think the rolling shots and pictures of the wheels would be pretty cool with an upright logo.
Issue is that these are often press cars, which means that they usually can't change anything about them. I don't think (maybe I'm wrong) they'd be able to change the center caps, even temporarily.
I have this car and love it so much I actually watch videos about it. This is definitely the best video about it so far! - German Cowboy (JK, not really a cowboy… or German. But this is a great video. And a great car.)
For a Canadian car review, while the whole country is freezing cold except for parts of BC, you guys must be testing this somewhere other than Ontario...the t--shirts are a dead giveaway. LOL! Great review. Just one question though; Did you guys test drive a regular X3 and if so how did you find the ride? Is it much firmer than a regular X3? I'm not a fan of performance SUV's because if you want a sports vehicle my advice would be to get a real sports car. SUV's are for hauling people and stuff while sports cars are quite the opposite. I have a sports car and I can tell you that my car has excellent cup holders and proper space for my cellphone. Fun and informative with excellent production quality as usual! Blond hair does suit you....
I bought a 2017 Porsche Cayenne s and it broke under a week. So I might trade it for a M40i. I test drove a X3 M40i my eyes started blurring, even though it has less horse power, it’s so much faster and blows the Cayenne S out the water.
Yea but the GV70 is a close competitive to this now. And I think that has better quality and warranty, but they both sound great. I think I like the look of GV70 more than this
I don't like the tail lights on this new X3. I wonder why BMW finds it difficult to simplify tail lights. The front end looks great here though, especially with the black grille.
My 2020 BMW X3 has engine mounts that went bad after just after the 50k warranty went out. It also has an oil leak. Lemon? Wonder if BMW fixed that issue for newer models?
It does. I came from a GLC-Tesla m3-iX3 (2022) which is the same as this x3 and the interior is by FAR the best. No creaks, buttons feel great and much sturdier overall
Good review as always. I always get the impression that you two like the Porsche's more for performance, driving dynamics, workmanship, quality materials or ergonomics but not the costly price (for which I agree because Porsche makes you pay for everything). You both seem more enthusiastic driving the Porsche's in cliche corner. I could be mistaken but it's just a personal observation.
How do you go about picking songs? If I'm to be honest, in the last about 6 months multiple of your "theme" songs have made it to my top played on Spotify, thanks for new tunes!
You’re not lying! I had test driven the 2021 GLC 43 AMG… what I love about that vehicle was the digital dash..the customization with the colorful display with the AMG gauge cluster was 10 for me, the red seat beats, an the AMG steering was a win..HOWEVER the AMG was a bit pricy , didn’t come standard w a panoramic glass roof, and a few more accessories that are standard on the x3M40i. The AMG is fast but , not as fast as the X3, but the exhaust sounds on the AMG sounds great an has a slight small small edge than the exhaust on the BMW. The Verdict: I purchased the 2023 x3M40i with some nice specs! Hopefully it will arrive in time for the Christmas holidays.
I wanted one of these newer X3s and enjoy driving them but similar to you guys, my wife couldn’t get comfortable in the seats over a 10 day rental on PEI.
them tail lights are disgusting , they fucked the back end up of that car, but u already know some people are gonna like it because it's the latest design.
Even Doug Demuro didn't know that Alpina came stock in Alpina Green as he questioned why the steering wheel was accented in green along with the M stripes.
I think all the 40i versions deserve the M badges IMO. They are basically a street version of a M series. The real M’s are track cars IMO. Not to mention that less than 3 mods and a 40i makes just as much power as an M. 🤔. I’m just saying…. 😆.
i agree, when i drove the M2 the first year it came out i wasnt impressed, then i got myself an M240i convertible and that car was the perfect amount of sports car for the streets, the adaptive suspension was still on the stiffer side even in comfort, the M sport vehicles are the sweet spots in the BMW lineup nowadays!

It's our new editor. Jakub and Yuri just finish the videos off
This is the one I have been waiting for. Thank you.
I feel like this review was missing a "rough road" section for us city dwellers. The suspension in a test drive felt very rough even in comfort.
the m models are tuned pretty firm by default. the car has to have the adaptive suspension option (which isnt standard) in order for it to have a relatively smooth ride. my m40i doesnt have it and i regret it everyday.
Proud owner of a 22 x3 m40i. Such a great all around daily and very quick for its weight. Can’t wait to tune it, goals are 500-550 whp
What else are you going to have done to it?
@@samuelfreericks168 most likely a turbo upgrade and full bolt on
Did you also get the M style mirrors on the model as that seemed to be only offered on full M models but now they are on the m40s too which i found weird
@@shivamdesai49 yup they come with the M mirrors which I like
congrats on the pick up! I just ordered MY23 X3 M40i. I hear a lot of ppl say that the B58 is underrated. what is the "actual WHP" on the x3 M40i? is it 400 at the crack instead of 382?
Anxiously awaiting mine to arrive . Love the colour!
“Launch control… that was very smooth” * Urie’s head whiplashing every shift * 😂
Dope!!!! That launch control was awfully long but worth it!!!!
Bmw likes to build boost
Even after showing up on the dash as launch control active .... The boost takes a bit more time to build
Definitely need the limp test. I was laughing through the whole test lol
That was the best 10 seconds of Yuri. 6:30-6:40. I can’t stop laughing.
I have a ‘21 and agree with everything you just said.
The "base" X5 costs $10k more than the X3 M40i. They're no where near the same price as you said. 😂
I work close to the BMW plant in South Africa and these cars look amazing and it was so weird seeing LHD models on their way to the storage facility.
LHD ?
@@vladislavdimitrov4646 yes, some of the X3s made in SA are for the LHD markets and it's weird since I expect the driver on to be on the right side of the car and they're on the wrong side🤣
@@kgothatsotlhabadira6290 The correct side is the left side 😉
@@vladislavdimitrov4646 no it isn't, and I just remembered that I actually for the company that makes and cuts the leather panels for the interior.
Just kidding
My wife has this exact vehicle, but black exterior with the cognac interior. The infotainment center does the weirdest stuff. You actually use hand gestures in front of the screen to control stuff without touching a knob. Like to raise the volune, you can move your finger in a circle.
Yeah, we know that. This is the comment section of a car channel.😉😄.
The "I went limp" test had me rolling! Haha. THC + TSP is a good combo!
Mi rate di way uno do uno reviews. Respect for that. Educated a di way mi feel a di end a di video. Respect.
I had a 2020 one as a service rental when my 430 was in the shop. Man do I miss that thing.
Did the model you drove have the M Sport Differential?
I work in test at Bmw Spartanburg. Drive them everyday, this is definitely a Suv to have. fast, comfortable family cars. 💯
price could come down a bit though
Will the 2023 production have the new curved display
@@Super1prettyboy Nope...just ordered a '23 x3 M40i...it will still have i Drive 7 and separate center screen; not the contiguous one on latest models..suspect that will come in the new "25 model out in mid-'24 (from what I hear anyway!)
The limp test..... may open a lot more sponsor opportunities for you guys....sorry, couldn't help it, great review guys.
OMG guys, the Yuri gone limp part has to be a new segment on fast cars please, had me cracking up.
Was looking forward to the opinion on the rear taillights. I am satisfied and pleased.
I got one in the same colour in my garage. Just love the power, sound and how it handles!

@@tcollier0404 correct, the loan agreement stipulates that no modifications are allowed
This car review was Absolutely great
I have a 2022 X4 M40i and I love it . I tell my wife that we have a Supra engine lol
Please make videos of that beast sir! lol
😂😂😂other way around champ. Supra has ur engine 💪🏿
The volcanic burning of bimmer guys with the three painted grill slats suits my tastes just fine. Mighty just fine.
Those tail lights look like energy swords from halo.
Came to say this
Yup
Loving your videos I think bmw has some of the best looking tail lights
I have this car and love it so much I actually watch videos about it. This is definitely the best video about it so far!
- German Cowboy
(JK, not really a cowboy… or German.
Somebody at BMW was waiting for Halo Infinite when designing this one 😂
THOSE REAR TAIL LIGHT LOOK LIKE THE ENERGY SWORD FROM HALO !!!!!!🤩
It’s amazing how good the old M2/3/4 looked and how bad they look now. They gotta fire their designer who’s making these changes.
Yup - Jakub
I would definitely take this over the Mercedes GLC. Without even a thought.
But the GLC 63S ANG has a V8 tho...
I did!
@@jonlosito2004 V8s are overrated.
@@sappyjohnson okay but they're dying slowly
@@jonlosito2004 GLC63S wouldn’t be the competitor to this though. The X3M is the competitor 🤷♂️
I bought a 2017 Porsche Cayenne s and it broke under a week. So I might trade it for a M40i. I test drove a X3 M40i my eyes started blurring, even though it has less horse power, it’s so much faster and blows the Cayenne S out the water.
Sucks the mild hybrid system kills the sound the 2019 m40i’s sounded really good
This car looks, sounds amazing, bmw really makes quality cars especially M cars
Yea but the GV70 is a close competitive to this now. And I think that has better quality and warranty, but they both sound great. I think I like the look of GV70 more than this
Ever since my 2000 328i, BMW has not made "quality cars".
I am sure they probably did , I hope. I see a lot of these out on the road. I own a lease x3m40i
Does the interior of the X3 feel more quality than something like the GLC- Class?
It does. I came from a GLC-Tesla m3-iX3 (2022) which is the same as this x3 and the interior is by FAR the best. No creaks, buttons feel great and much sturdier overall
My current X3M40i lease expires in about a year. I’ll probably get another one. Says it all.
Tsp.truecar.com 👌
0:43 I think you guys meant 500Nm for torque, not kW.
I LOVE IT!!!! THE TOTAL FAMILY HAULER!!!! THANKS FOR SHARING!!!!
I think the limp test is a great idea it shows how good the seats are bolstered
That b58 is a beast
Good review as always. I always get the impression that you two like the Porsche's more for performance, driving dynamics, workmanship, quality materials or ergonomics but not the costly price (for which I agree because Porsche makes you pay for everything). You both seem more enthusiastic driving the Porsche's in cliche corner. I could be mistaken but it's just a personal observation.
That's pretty accurate
How do you go about picking songs? If I'm to be honest, in the last about 6 months multiple of your "theme" songs have made it to my top played on Spotify, thanks for new tunes!
It’s all the new editor
I’ll be shopping one of these used in about 6 years. Currently drive a 340i x drive and love it to death.
Just lease the X3M when yr on a trip than yr good
Perhaps you'd like to explain why the world needs an X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6, and X7. They're cannibalizing their own brand
Top dog in the segment at the moment, followed closely by the GLC43 AMG and the GV70 3.5t sport prestige
@@Mr.Lambert777 amazing! Congrats on your purchase!
I prefer pre-facelift but a beast in any config
I will get this suv one day even if it’s a couple years from now, it will still look good.
Bro, that's a Halo Energy Sword tail light, no lobster claws!!! WOW
I wanted one of these newer X3s and enjoy driving them but similar to you guys, my wife couldn’t get comfortable in the seats over a 10 day rental on PEI.
The front end looks really good!
them tail lights are disgusting , they fucked the back end up of that car, but u already know some people are gonna like it because it's the latest design.
What are the 3 mods ?
Yeah but the amount of M badges it has? They gotta chill
i agree, when i drove the M2 the first year it came out i wasnt impressed, then i got myself an M240i convertible and that car was the perfect amount of sports car for the streets, the adaptive suspension was still on the stiffer side even in comfort, the M sport vehicles are the sweet spots in the BMW lineup nowadays!
