    Awesome video. I learned a lot from your video. Loksound is now my favorite decoder because of Scaletrains. Now I want to convert all of my Athearn locomotives to Loksound decoders. Your locomotive sounds and looks great. Thank you.

    Another life saver Deryk. Getting ready to install V5's in a couple of these. Almost purchased a few dual sugar cube kits for them. As always I appreciate your videos, John

      Great to hear! Glad I could help. Try the auto tune function first. You might not have to do everything I did in this video. The auto tune doesn't always work.

    Hey Deryk, thanks for the how to vid, seems easy enough to change values on the decoders. Never tried before but now I feel a bit more comfortable after seeing how it works,. Thanks again

    I really like this; always been a fan of trains and couldn't quite figure out how to go about expressing it. I don't think I have the patience to do a full layout as of now, but maybe simulate a piece of mainline with minor scenery and a couple of sidings to run the power around the train. The NS trains where I live on the Pulaski district have gotten increasingly heavier and longer (DPUs are showing up on mixed freights and the occasional coal or oil can comes through.) Not the steepest grades through this little town, but the trackage slows them down and they're usually pulling pretty hard and slow... quite impressive to see a train such as an intermodal, which generally is a quick freight, work that hard with so much motive power to maintain I'm guessing around 20 mph. Now, to the modeling; my mechanical engineering mind has just told me after this video "one can have that much control over these models? I can literally make them behave how I personally want?" I think I would have just as much fun laying some basic track and working with the locomotives to get them operational as prototypically accurate.

    Is there an industry standard on what function keys, make a particular action happen? Or is it just up to the user? Also, do you have a video explaining back EMF. For some reason I cant wrap my head around it!

    Just picked up 5 Lok5's and my retailer installed the sound file for me. reading thru the instructions there is a way to preset back emf settings as long as your test track has the room to let it do its run. but i'm using JMRI and a DCC++ system, so it's still a bit of a learning curve for me. looking into a lokprogramer but us mac users are still left behind in the app for it..

      The auto program feature didn't quite get it where it needed to be. You can certainly try it though. Good luck man!

  • @DeStoreholmskeBaner
    @DeStoreholmskeBaner 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have you tried the auto tune feature related to the motor parameters? Just get a few feets of track, set CV 54 to 0, leave programming mode and hit F1. The locomotive will now run in one direction for a few seconds. When it stops again, the decoder has optimized the engine parameters. Just use ESU LokSound or LokPilot 4 and later

    • @DGModelworks
      @DGModelworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it didn't quite get the loco to where it needed to be. To be honest if you are able to program it, you can get better results on your own.

    You try speed matching with momentum between a loksound 5, and loksound select/direct ? Seems way off, and is very painful.

    I've had the auto CV-54 config kill some units. It turns CV-53 down way too much in some cases.

    I am picking up a Athearn Genesis ES 44 I'm wondering is there any DCC decoder that's just plug and play for just the lights to operate without you needing a program. I'm not worried about one with sound. Also what decoder would you suggest.

    • @DGModelworks
      @DGModelworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well if its the new ES44 there is no way to avoid programming if you want the lights to function correctly. You need to program or change CV's to get the lights on the correct function of the decoder. No matter what brand decoder you buy.
