Excellent review. You scooped everyone! Haha. The most important aspect of this new decoder is the lack of humming. This was extremely irritating and occurred even with higher end motors. Zimos didn't do this. Now ESU will be a good choice for steam as well. The future is bright...
I just looked at the options on lokprogrammer for a 5 project and I have the 3 point speed value option available. Looks like they added it back in thankfully
Excellent information. Thank you for taking the time to explain the decoder features. Much appreciated, and no, the information was NOT boring as I have two of these locos in N scale. At 6:00 in the video you began playing horn samples, but I could not help but notice the device the Dash-9 was sitting on. What were those rollers the wheels were sitting on? I've never seen anything like that. Is that your own invention or something that is available commercially? I could instantly see where that would be totally useful or wheel cleaning, programming, maintenance. Please advise. Thank you.
This is an EXCELLENT review and demonstration of the LokSound 5 decoder. Thank you for presenting. I have just purchased the HO Rapido Alco FA-2 loco with the LokSound 5 decoder installed. How can I make this decoder manual notch? I see no provision for this in the owner's manual. I do not care for LokSound's Drive Hold feature. Can this decoder be made to manually notch? I sure hope so.
Very thorough and well edited review! It will be interresting to hear how an actual LS5 project sounds!
You did a very nice job on this comparison video. Thank you!

I agree! This decoder will be cool on steam locomotive sound installs.

The locomotive test stand I have a separate video covering it: th-cam.com/video/wGeQrJ_wVaQ/w-d-xo.html

It will be in the new Rapido "Icons of Steam" series and there were a few of the last RDC models with the V5.
Could you do a video on adjusting the master control CV 63 ON HOW TO GO ABOUT IT THANKS
What is the ESU part number for this?
ESU just released the Dash 9 sound file to be downloaded from the V5 library.
Will 4.0 versions open on the 5.0 software? What about the Lokprogrammer?
Edit: can the 4.0 be updated for the new 5.0 firmware?
Yes 5.0 software works with 4.0 decoders. Lokprogrammer hardware is unchanged.
I wonder if esu loksound 4 decoder will be the best sounding decoder with a iPhone speaker
Well Done! Thanks
You're welcome!
7:06 What the hell is sound slot 24 'Spazzmatica Polka' on the LokSound 4 ??? LOL! #22 isn't bad either Rapido Stupid Sounds?
what is the file number for the v5 GE?
When this video was made there were no retail V5 files in existence. As of today there are at least 2 or 3 V5 GE files posted on ESU's page.
