What a delightful couple you are! The sweep of the land....your stewardship....so admired. May you be blessed with excellent health, success in all that you do and abundant happiness for you and your family. May peace and contentment be interwoven with the tapestry of your lives always.
I think it would be awesome to clean up the outside of the kiln. It’s all a part of the history of Mapperton. And, thanks Luke for telling us a bit about limestone. I never knew anything about limestone. I just wish this was a bit longer. I really enjoyed it! Thank you! 🌸🌸
I love seeing you two together! Please clear the kiln of weeds and brambles and put a marker there explaining it's significance. It would be lovely to stroll your beautiful estate and find these hidden historical treasures. ❤
Mabey think about covering the paintings and furniture etc etc in the room where the chimney is beign cleaned, very minute particles of spot cover everything even with the modern vacuum ones
The production quality is SO MUCH BETTER- the PBS’y content structure isn’t lost on me. Switching on-camera hosts in and out of scenes also made it interesting. Drone transitions to other areas of the property =A++
Yes, clear out the vines and spiff it up for walking tours. Lots of history at the manor house that is important to British heritage. Interesting content. Julie more interested in wild growing vegetation. Comedy between the two is hilarious. Lucy and Ricky Ricardo style. Lol
15:07...the Brits call it "Maize" while the Yanks call it "Corn" just one of the many signs of the two blended cultures.. Julie's definitely brought a breath of fresh air to the manor...
Yes, clear the kiln! It will be a very interesting addition to the portion of historic Mapperton tours! Thank you for another interesting look at your beautiful home.
You’re adorable together. So funny and fun. Love your husband’s dry English humor (my husband is English and he cracks me up all the time). And yes, we Americans always want to know how old stuff is and is it older than the US.
The ending was just so funny- like an I love Lucy show- The Professor and the distracted student. Congrats on getting that cherry picker in the back garden.
Yes, Luke! It would be very interesting to conserve the kiln and perhaps put up a historical marker. It would be a great picnic spot. Julie, you were hilarious with the berries! The two of you make a fantastic comedic duo!
...You are so watchable together! I just interrupted my binge watching of your past installments to see this current episode and you both manage to tell wonderful stories of Mapperton history while also being fun and entertaining! I loved Julie's face during the "limestone lesson" and her accidental scarf entanglement had me laughing out loud (sorry!)...Love from across the pond in New England! 🥰💕
Would love to see more on the kiln but with Julie filming elsewhere at the time :) Restore it if you can, it would be an interesting addition to the estate tour.
Oh Julie you have me in-fits of laughter. Elderberry berries are rich in vitamin C and makes a lovely drink, also the flowers in June make a medicinal tea that’s antioxidant. Elderberry flowers make a lovely cordial drink. And don’t for get the blackberries for apple pie. We have just picked some blackberries today to go with apple pie tomorrow.
I have just recently come onto the Mapperton videos and enjoy every single one! It is wonderful to see a beautiful estate restored and such care for the countryside. Sending the videos to some friends here in the United States, we all agree, the videos are entertaining (Julie's direct humor, Luke's dry humor), informative, and show the best of the British and United States in Julie and Luke with their family.
I think it is an excellent idea to restore the kiln! (We have lots of stone furnaces here in the states, they were usually built for making pig iron) Ty for the video
Julie & Luke, you both are a blast. Enjoy your videos so much! Luke, the kiln information was was very informative. We put lime on our vegetable garden every spring and along with fertilizer it helps so much. Didn't realize it had to be processed in a kiln. Janice from Arkansas USA.
Very interesting history lesson here Julie on the Kiln etc but I have to say, when Luke said you weren't interested in the Kiln and then you suddenly got your scarf caught on the brambles, I bust out laughing. :0) I agree with Luke 100% in regards to restoring this part of Mapperton, because it is HISTORY and it would be nice to see a video of it being cleared and restored as best you can for future generations to pop along and visit! In the not too distance future, the way things are going, these will be forgotten forever and that is a shame if they're not looked after now! Can't wait to see you opening your gifts! :0) x
BRILLIANT information about limestone. America wouldn't have been able to be built without these kilns. Steven thank you. FABULOUS Mapperton kiln. Hope you are able to restore kiln.
You two are so cute! I love your stuff, I love Mapperton. As an American of British descent, I always wanted to live the manor life... Julie is living my dream, and doing a great job of it! You rock girl!!
Now I've become a fan! These recent videos in which you present unedited, uncontrived and genuinely funny aspects of your life will hopefully take your channel to the next level. The slime and sludge of the pools, and having the alluring blackberries snag Julie's scarf are snippets of real life that are delightful to glimpse.
I absolutely LOVE the chemistry that you have together!!! Never stop having fun, as well as, giving those of us from across the big pond, wonderful history lessons, And, yes, please restore the kiln.
You guys are so funny together ❤. Always put up my feet and enjoy your spuffs with a cup of coffee. Keep the videos coming. Pure 😊 delight. Thank you for the laughs!
That was so enjoyable. Also interesting and educational too. I agree with Luke that the old lime kiln would be interesting to see with maybe a display board explaining it. Julie, you should go blackberry picking one day and make a film of it. Its a bit late now but maybe next summer in July or August. Its a traditional thing. As kids we did every year with our Mum and Dad. It was great fun and being kids we didn't worry about pricks and scratches. The other berries were Elderberries, not poisonous, you can make wine with them if you wanted to.
You two are hilarious. But Julie, I would be so into the history of the store and the kiln. One fact I find interesting in England is that you can tell what area the homes are from by the stone they are built with.
I was right! It fit but it was tight. James is such a nice humble man. Great video, what a spectacular view! Just beautiful! It would be lovely to restore the kiln, great history. Looking forward to the next video. 🙂
That Cherry Picker was tense for a bit!! Whew, what a relief! "Hi",James!! How exciting,a real Chimney Sweep!! I really liked learning about the Limestone. You guys crack me up!! Love from Vermont
I loved Lukes's story on the inferior oolite and how it was used. Very interesting! I think you should restore the kiln....agricultural history is actually more important than the buildings...the ag is what brought people there....IT IS THE TRUE HISTORY! thanks for sharing!
Just a little FYI The music for each video no matter what it pertains to ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS (ok no absolutes BUT) always is perfect and fitting. Thanks again for ok almost perfection!!
OMGosh Julie, thank you for the laughs!! You made me lol, I love how you are and I get the teasing humor being American myself and living in the UK now. My husband gets into long explanations about things and I always get distracted by the wildlife and plants all around, hahah, same thing! Cheers from a friend in Scotland!
Awwww!!! this was absolutely delightful to watch Julie and Luke! What a great history of the Mapperton limestone! I totally agree with Luke that you should definitely let he kiln be a part of the Mapperton tour! And the view!! my oh my!! If the weather was really good I'm sure Julie would not have bought a house in Italy as the landscape around Mapperton could beat any landscape in Italy. It's just the weather, isn't it? :) I absolutely loved the fun banter and the part where Julie is more interested in the berries hahaa I would've done the same. :) the green berry looks like Schezuan pepper. Thank you Julie and Luke for continuing to share your history and different aspects of Mapperton to your global audience! Please continue to bring Luke to the videos, he really adds great depth to the show. Namaste! Rashmi from Minnesota
Well Julie, I just had my first encounter with stinging nettle in Germany a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was a harmless weed growing in my son’s yard and reached to pull it out. I no more than got my thumb and forefinger around it and knew I was in trouble! Wow, it burned the living S out of me. The only thing that would stop the burning was Liquid Bandaid.
When I was a child my parents had little money, so dad used to sweep chimneys. I'm not sure why, but he was the only sweep in the village, even though most houses still burned coal. This was the late 50s and early 60s, so, sensibly, he kept his day job, sweeping chimneys early morning or weekends, because work became scarcer in the 60s as people stopped using coal, and started to use gas. Happy memories of dad coming home looking like Bert from Mary Poppins, and smelling of soot. When I've visited places still using coal, the smell has transported me right back.
Really interesting, I particularly enjoyed learning about the stone. Restoring the kiln would add a unique dimension for visitors coming to the property. Thankyou again 🙏🏻
Yes Luke... you should restore it!! That view is amazing!
What a delightful couple you are! The sweep of the land....your stewardship....so admired. May you be blessed with excellent health, success in all that you do and abundant happiness for you and your family. May peace and contentment be interwoven with the tapestry of your lives always.
I’m already intrigued! You two are natural born storytellers, entertainers, and comedians. ❤️😄
The absolute best part was Julie having her scarf attacked by the stinging nettles and being distracted by the berry bushes! Love you two❣️🌿
Hilarious! 😂
I was laughing out loud at that point too! 😂
@@elizabeththomson2579 me too, it felt so good!
it was funny lol
I L♥️VE Luke's Historical
Knowledge, & Julie's Enthusiasm for Mapperton is Simply Wonderful.‼️
Very interesting and I would have liked to hear Luke finish talking about the kiln…. A great idea to restore it
You 2 r so funny together!! Poor Luke, Julie has the attention span of a cocker spaniel puppy!!
Oh Julie - you and your husband rival Jeeves & Wooster! Love you guys! 😄👏👏👏💕
They look like elder berries to me. You can make a lovely drink with the flowers next year !!

Wonderful to read! And thank you!
I also didn't know that much about the limestone, interesting that they would burn it to create fertilizer.. Thank you for the information. 😀
No but the berries lol

You were looking for EARS of corn.
Luke is utterly charming....so delightful to listen to his explanations.
Yes, clear the kiln! It will be a very interesting addition to the portion of historic Mapperton tours!
Thank you for another interesting look at your beautiful home.
Our pleasure!
I think you will find , small green berries are Elder berries. Great idea about revealing the Kiln.
I learn a lot watching your shows. Chimney sweeping, lime kiln, cherry picking. lol
You’re adorable together. So funny and fun. Love your husband’s dry English humor (my husband is English and he cracks me up all the time). And yes, we Americans always want to know how old stuff is and is it older than the US.
So many very good program videos on youtube today, and Mapperton is every bit one of them.
The ending was just so funny- like an I love Lucy show- The Professor and the distracted student. Congrats on getting that cherry picker in the back garden.

Do you think that we'll be able to fit the cherrypicker through the garden entrance? 😬
Let some air out of the tiers lol may fit good luck 🍀.
Sure hope so , it might be super tight but am praying that the 🍒 cherry picker makes it .
Well, if it’s anything like the furniture van that tried to fit through our entrance with not great consequences, I’m going to say “no” 😃
Simple . Dig out the gravel a couple of inches then replace when finished .
Would love to see more on the kiln but with Julie filming elsewhere at the time :) Restore it if you can, it would be an interesting addition to the estate tour.
Yes you should restore the kiln! That would be so cool! 😀

It was elderberry bush...those small black balls near that the limestone fire...

Love the idea of revealing the kiln - part of the historical self-sufficiency of any grand estate!
What an amazing landscape there is in the estate!
I think it is an excellent idea to restore the kiln! (We have lots of stone furnaces here in the states, they were usually built for making pig iron) Ty for the video
Thank you for sharing Mapperton’s historical features. The kiln should definitely be preserved. So very interesting. 🌺
Another great episode. You two go together like peas and carrots. If I can quote Forrest Gump.

Yes, Julie trying to extricate herself from the brambles as Luke carries forth on his tour of the kiln was very funny. Had me laughing out loud.
best to have foliage in front of limestone British weather is not kind to structures
Thanks Luke! I enjoy your history lessons and love learning about your culture. Cheers!
Okay, I was kind of intrigued by the kiln but then Julie's scarf got snagged in the nettles and I lost it!! Enjoyed this whole vlog immensely.
