She gets so much recognition from people that listen to her music it it leaves others curious and with a certain expectation when really, she does stays in her lane, REALLY well.. and a lot of people love her lane but some people don’t and that’s okay!!! The Taylor tour was an amazing opportunity for her I think it just left some people feeling entitled to knock her down a peg when Gracie was never even trying to make it big she just genuinely loves music and you can tell through her music I think. People don’t have to love her style and enjoy her writing but it’s not deep enough to try and get others to view it as surface-leveled when she does have a beautiful voice that carries emotion and she does put so much heart and life in her music that even their favorite artists notice and admire. It’s not a competition at all, she’s got some really amazing music that I wish I wrote myself !!!
as a gracie abrams mega-fan, the things she feels with her fans go back for a long time. we've been fans since she was a small artist and it's been a very two-sided relationship. we're very alike in our love for her and our feelings in the world. it's really not weird at all for her to talk about how grateful she is to all of us and thinking about us while writing her songs. it's like we're her friends. so i guess if you're not a fan you wouldn't understand from the outside in
I have a friend who's a really big fan of hers, I like some songs but I don't have super strong feelings about her but I REALLY don't get the amount of hate she gets? I really get why you would relate to her a lot and idk why people spend so much time being mean to artists they don't like... Maybe if my fan needs some to come along to the concert... Maybe I'll come along (Also I agree about Maisie Peters, I saw her opening for Noah Kahan a few weeks ago and it was so fun, she's GREAT! For me it was very much "oh I'm going to the Noah Kahan AND Maisie Peters show. Appreciate the openers!!)
i think people just love to hate on female artists. so what she's more niche? the majority of niche artists is male... so i'm here for that :) Not everyone can be a main pop girly... I hope she doesn't get beaten down by all the hate. also i think people are pissed because she got a taylor spotlight, ie. it's derivate hate towards her really? That said, the world is cruel, so many amazing artists never get the recognition they deserve... Not everyone can get a taylor/beyonce/adele/dua/xyz shoutout.
it seems like some gracie fans don't realise part of the reasons why people don't like and that's because of the misinformation being spread about her online. people are calling her a pdfile
This is a great video! I have so many thoughts! I’m a huge Gracie fan and i understand some of the discussion around her not being the strongest artist or performer but I think that’s okay? Not every artist needs to be Beyoncé and selling out arenas, sometimes simple is okay. Her songwriting is definitely improving and she’s finding her sound, although TSOU is not my favorite project of hers. The Taylor Swift influence is very apparent and I’m not the biggest fan of that. She’s said before that she loved how passionately her fans would sing her songs on previous tours so she wanted to make songs that were worthy of our lung capacity 🤣 Also the swiftologist’s criticism was way harsh, I usually like his takes but that seemed unnecessarily mean
I think it all really just comes down to personal taste because I really love the rawness and realness in her vocals and performance it feels more relatable
Even as a huge Swiftie, the different production and writing on TSOU didn’t land as well for me as past Gracie projects. I love that Taylor is influencing her, but I also feel like it came at the cost of what made her first two projects so special
I just went to her Denver show the other day and it was incredible. She’s been one of my top 3 artists for the last like 4 years so it was a pretty big moment for me (I was totally one of those scream singers ngl). Also yes love Maisie Peters, she was actually my first concert. I will say though her voice at big concerts could use some work. I think she’s a really good singer on a small scale when she focuses on it but when she starts to focus more on her stage presence and dance moves her voice can slip quite a bit. Still love her, she just needs to work on that. Great video btw!
i went on the 8th of sept. and it was seriously the best night of my life. i love her so much and it was such an incredible experience. i shed a lot of tears. 😭 ❤
Gracie is a good enough artist that I can forgive her father for ruining the last Star Wars Movie. Good Riddance is a really great album, the Story of Us was kind of a step down in my mind but it was very nice.
He DEFINITELY has mean girl energy, but I do appreciate hearing contrasting opinions, especially when it comes to Taylor Swift because I feel like I don’t often hear fans criticizing/openly acknowledging the aspects of her work that they don’t like. BUT I know if I was in the shoes of the people he talks about I would not like him AT ALL
hes been getting on my nerves lately, i usually think hes got valid points but for someone who touts himself as nuanced and objective he flips on people who question him in the comments…
I believe the "holding a colored paper over your phone flashlight during specific songs" project is honestly not that uncommon for concerts. I've been to a lot where that happens (and it's for the whole tour, not just one show - so that means there are angels out there cutting and distributing paper at each of the different cities haha), and I've never seen the artist acknowledge it. I'm sure the performers know that it's a thing, and I'm sure they think it's nice. I can't think of more than one other example, but I do know that Taylor Swift was featured on a HAIM song called Gasoline. HAIM, an all-girl band, also opened for The Eras Tour, and I know they close friends with Taylor as well. Glad you had fun at a show for so cheap! I never understand why people get so mad at openers for being openers for big artists. It's like what did you expect ... they're just here to promote their music .... what's wrong with that...
Swiftologist is so mean and negative. I tried to watch his videos for awhile but he is so harsh and comes off as a know it all and attacks his own fandom like he thinks he’s above people who call themselves swifties, yet, his whole job is obsessing over Taylor.
yeahhh like I used to watch him but it feels like he hates so many people and his opinion is the only “correct” one. it’s just so insufferable, like he just seems like a horrible person to have to be around constantly. Like, he went to eras tour a bunch of times and there was once he didn’t get a surprise song he truly loved (mind u so many people can’t go to the eras tour even once) and he was so annoying and ungrateful abt it…
@@ayeshashelar9104 exactly. he acts like his opinion is the only right one and anyone who disagrees with him is wrong and stupid. it's so annoying in my opinion
I think he’s just a very sensitive “mean girl”. I like some of his content and he does his research. But he’s very mean spirited, and I think he revels in the hate some pop girls get online. Plus some comments I see on his page are lightly critical and he just flips out on them.
The hate is uncalled for and excessive. Though I am not a fan, she has a good voice, and there are one or two songs I enjoy. Personally the reason I'm not a fan is I've never found anything particularly unique or special about her songs that makes me feel like Gracie offers something I can't find better done elsewhere. And there’s probably some level of nepotism involved, as I’m not sure she would have had been on the Eras tour without connections.
Exaaactly. I feel like she has a couple of good songs but there’s nothing like unique or spectacular about her. And I have no hate towards her and I’m happy for the people that can connect with her music, but I truly don’t think she’d be where she is without the nepotism and I feel like that leads to people dragging her on the internet
I also found the swiftologist to be very rude and mean. In that same video, he has called so many other artists irrelavent. He feels like he's the authority on all things music when Infact he's just too opinionated.
@@alfiegetsthemunchies77I believe he does have the credentials to be a music critic but I’m not sure it makes him a good one I personally don’t mind the “mean girl energy” at the end of the day he’s just having some fun and it’s not meant to be taken personally but it makes him a horrible music critic
Well, it’s his platform. He is a critic. He has no obligation to be objective when sharing his likes and dislikes. Plus, he makes it abundantly clear that it’s not that deep, it’s all his opinions and you are free to disagree. If he feels like an authority to you, you might want to check other critics and realize opinions vary and the swiftologist isn’t a dictator in pop culture discourse. Stating your opinion with confidence on subjects you research isn’t being opinionated.

I knew she wasn't well liked by music nerds and wasn't really interested either way, but then I read your video title and was intrigued so I went to listen to her 2020 EP and first two albums. Good Riddance kinda sucked :l very boring and one dimensional. I don't think the writing was terrible, just predictable and not that unique. And the music writing wasn't much better, sounding bland and one note (her first EP was surprisingly more interesting). The Secret of Us, though, was pretty decent and had good moments. It was more dynamic musically with pretty catchy chorus' here and there with a step up in the writing. Still, the themes were similar and not all that interesting even if relatable.
