I feel like the first story is more like a friend pushing you to try out their new car, when you know nothing about cars, and then finding out it was a 200k Lamborghini when you get into an accident.
Not really, at the start he said he got a cheap SS deck and explicitly says it was incomplete because he couldn't affort the more expensive stuff, meaning he knew there is quite expensive cards, also he said it was him the one than wanted to test himself at regionals.
The difference between an accident (of any kind) and leaving your bag unattended is totally different(is it that hard to bring it in the stall with you?) , it means he didn’t care at all if the bag got stolen, whilst not knowing he had 1000$ in it instead of 2-300$ he thought it’d be
Everything is much simpler, it's a life lesson for a young guy to check cost of the shit he is drugging himself into, beforehand. Thank god he is just lost 1k because of it, much worst would be in his 40-50, for example, to start building a house without properly checking the cost, spend all your money halfway in the process, taking huge loan and after that still stuck at some point, and then sitting with huge loan and abomination of building materials and third of the house, maybe even getting scammed by builders because you tried to find cheapest options. (Even worse example would be - starting a business with all your money)
To be honest, car analogy isn't really good, because you would probably ask about the price of the car or more likely about insurance for that car before trying it out, precisely in case you would get into an accident. Except maybe if your friend was totally drunk and he asked you to drive him home, but in that case you actually doing friends request.

Player A should pay back Sangan for losing their cards. This much is obvious. Player A fucked up by leaving their bag unattended, and even worse by doing it when they were responsible for a friend's things! *HOWEVER.* Sangan should not have loaned Player B their cards if they valued them. *NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER* loan a friend something if you care about getting it back. Ever. It's not a question of whether you trust them or not; there is no time where it's a good idea. *Don't do it.* Not because of price or anything; simply because as soon as there's debt in a friendship, it's forever tainted. If you care about something, then you'll want to be compensated if it's lost. If the person walks off with it, you're going to be angry, and if there's an accident you'll want them to make you whole. If it's something you don't put much value on, you can just say "Ah well, shit happens" and move on - they'll probably want to pay you back anyway, but it doesn't matter to you if they do or don't.
Can't believe anyone would say that this is just a copy of Will of the Councel, don't they know that it's a completely non Yu-Gi-Oh related podcast? Clearly this is completely different :)
Most people tbh... Common sense though is you ask someone to watch your stuff. Like I've left decks in working on in MTG that are over $10k on tables when going to the bathroom... I just don't leave them completely unattended. I'll ask someone I know to keep an eye on them, put the INSANE money cards back in the box so they aren't visible, etc and go.
Commenting on the prize discussion: The OTS I used to work at had a specific workaround to the rule for store credit. They would keep some packs on hand of some duelist pack that nobody wanted, and they would "offer" that as an option for prizing, and then they would buy back those packs for store credit.
9:54 runescape has haunted me but also taught me so many lessons over the years growing up on it. even today its stil stuck with me losing my full mithril to some guy
I do think it’s right that he should be paying the money back for a deck, but also who lends someone a deck and puts their 400 dollar version of cards in it?
On the topic of prizing I do have to say as someone who only casually plays paper, you're gonna get your shit kicked in by someone running a full meta deck with all the staples very often. There does have to be some kind of prize support for people who are turning up for fun.
My old locals before they closed down due to covid used to give out ots to everyone who participated. It was only 5 dollars and if you topped you got more packs. They also gave out free prizes to anyone if they got them available. People loved that because it felt like everyone won something.
Hottest of takes, sleeves shouldn't be mandatory. Also Dzeef is correct, in other games I've seen people over months get miserable in various formats because the same 7 people out of 50 rotate around top 4, so over half your tournament regulars get nothing but money sink over that period. Now, you can make it heavier for the top but if you just top 4/8 it doesn't help the community's morale.
This is almost like MBT's Magical Hats except it's with people stories than Yu-Gi-Oh discussions. It also doesn't have that weird "Oh who's the traitor?" Gimmick which just kinda took away what I liked about that series.
To add on to the prizing discussion, while I don't play yugioh physically I do play MTG. How they do it for magic is that for casual events they do 1 pack per win, with 0-4 players getting a consolation pack, but they don't have a top cut usually. For competitive events they have top cut and only give prizing for top cut and I think that's the best way to do it. Have dedicated casual and competitive events.
I like how all the locals in my area handle prizing, you get OTS packs for entering and top cut gets more prizing. I've pulled two Chaos Angels just by entering locals and continue to pull pretty cool cards. Everyone walks home with something and you always feel like playing bracket is worth it.
This has convinced me time and time again to never, EVER play tcg Dealing with 9 maxx Cs is a so much more favorable situation than having to spend a full pcs worth of cards that can very easily be stolen, broken or banned
Have a small amount of common sense and you’ll never have an incident like that. I can’t believe how somebody can be so naive as to leave their bag unattended. Even when I was new to events, I immediately understood that the millisecond I turned my back on my stuff without a known friend to watch it then it was good as gone.

I will say, only in the YGO have I ever seen “My friend got stolen from” being referred to as “He lost his stuff”. I really hate how often I hear about things getting stolen from YGO events. Part of why I stopped going to irl events after seeing it over and over as far back as TeleDAD format.
I'm mainly an MTG player, and my LGS does : everyone has a guaranteed booster of the latest pack, one promo pack (OTS style), one promo card from the lose promos box. Then, top players (top4/8/16 depending on attendance) get more booster packs (up to a box for the winner). Magic also tends to do sealed events (or drafts), making people leave with a good amount of new cards, so everyone is happy.
I had a semi similar situation to the dark law story. I was playing a match while the judge was watching. I won the game and the judge said he will write the result on the slip. That was round 1. Somewhere during round 3 i think, i checked neuron and noticed it says i lost r1. I report it to the judge and the store owner. They go through the slips and find out the judge accidentally checked the opposing player as the winner. After the tournament was over he treated me to some food
I’m surprised y’all were so unanimous on the idea that he should be required to pay back what sangan payed for the cards and not their current market value. The amount he originally paid is completely arbitrary.
as gage and doug said, if someone is so nice to lend you something, you have to take care of it. it doesnt matter if the cards are worth 1000 dollars or 50 dollars, this is really a douchebag thing to leave stuff that isnt yours unattended. and now to even ponder if he should pay the full amount??? this doesnt make any sense
So for the first one I think a replacement of the rarity is fine. He already spent the money to at the time get secret rares, so the player who lost his cards has a playable version, and the person who lost them I think can so long as they're the same prints, just buy the prints even if they depreciate in value since he's buying doubles at this point.
I think the argument for the cards should be: "Do you still pay back a car loan if you get into an accident?"and the answer is still yes. P.S. don't be the person that goes "um awctually what about insurance"
Nah honestly who borrows out their extremely expensive cards and not just the cheapest version. I wouldnt pay the full price and if i leant out a deck I would take full responsibility
i would only lend a high rarity deck to a friend that i would forgive for losing it; i wouldn't borrow a high rarity deck from a friend who wouldn't forgive me for losing it.
Yes like you didnt just pay 5 bucks and supporter your locals. I think an interesting way would be to give top cut a couple of more packs and then pick 2 random that didnt top also special pricing so you know you can even get smth without beeing in the top cut.
OMG, as a huge fan of those reddit story videos, I LOVE this idea. Please keep this series going because it is something that I consume a lot about any subject, so a yugioh one is like heaven to me and my free time.
yeah even when i was a newer player, i never left my bag unattended unless i trusted the person i asked to watch my stuff, and even then, i rarely leave my stuff unattended
Honestly I get what Farfa is saying if he gets the exact same cards back and didn’t intend to sell them and they suddenly drop in price by 1/2 I’d buy them once they got cheaper. I do think that the deck needs to be returned the same way it was lent out but if you don’t have the money to pay all at once what’s it matter?
The difference is that the guy whose cards they were would’ve needed to replace the cards when they were lost and would’ve paid the higher price then before they decreased
I mean, that's not true though? He clearly had another deck to play that he'd rather play if he could lend this deck out and the event is over even if its weekly locals or whatever its not like if you don't have the cards the next day you're gonna explode. If he chose to replace the deck immediately then that's kinda insane to be making someone who can't afford a one time payment of that amount repay something that is well within your luxury spending to replace lmao.
In chess every move is documented and you can read the plays like a book. Maybe a system where each card and play is recorded can help with game state issues like the judge issuing a win in error
I once had my deck stolen in middle school. he was caught in the act but got to keep it because his parents donate to the school. eventually karma came back when he got expelled for throwing a chair at someone.
The first story is that they are a grown up adult. Its a common sense to being your stuff all the tome on a public space all the time unless if you have someone that explicitly said that they can watch your stuff. Trusting a stranger that its not their sole purpose to watching out luggage is just plain stupid and reckless.
Another Lesson here is that Never use your High rarity card for games, or let poeple borrow it... i cant believe Sangan lend a poeple that are still new a Quarter century card like that.
Drama Time! I once had a binder of old school cards and many of them were good value (at least by today's metrics). After a few years stored on a shelf and exposed to humidity, I decided to give them to my nephew before they got damaged. Plot twist! His father threw the folder in the trash because of his religious beliefs while knowing the monetary value of the cards.
for the second story, I think the HERO player should have tried to advocate for themselves. If you are playing a deck you should know how it works and what interactions it will shut down. of course it does suck that the judge missed it, and no one is perfect enough to memorize everything, but doing your due diligence to make sure that you ask to read every card to make sure you understand the game state so that you can get any win you can. stalemates/draws happen and it does take skill to ensure a stalemate/draw over a loss, and I personally wish the HERO player advocated for themselves more so they could have been rewarded for that.
but think of it like this, he activated masked and that, but the judged ruled it as a win for the sword player, and has someone who plays at big events it can some times be difficoult to speak up if at times like this, cuz who knows maybe the judge knew something u didnt, and by the way he quickly scooped it seems like the hero player was a timid/embarresed player and probably was scared to speak agianst a judge
@@j.a.g816 I personally think that if you want to get better, you should calmly ask questions about the judges rulings so you can understand how interactions work. I understand that it is hard to speak up at these large events and it can be awkward to question a judges rulings, but you still have to advocate for yourself because you cannot rely on anyone else to. I also don't know why the HERO player did scoop up quickly, but it could have also been because of the fact the round went to time and he did not want to be late for the next round.
Two things can be true. People make mistakes. If the hero player was more knowledgeable and confident in that knowledge he could have solved it. If the judge wasn't as stressed or was better prepared or knowledgeable he could have not made the mistake. Same I guess goes for the swordsoul player if he was knowledgeable and honest but it's hard to expect people to advocate against themselves. That a mistake occurred is not the question though. The question really falls on who's responsibility is it to do better and who's onus is it to resolve the issue when it arose. And while it was a mistake in the moment the judge made a ruling and changing it would have been more disruptive. They are there to keep the event running smoothly and the outcome is unfortunate but he did his job. It's not on the judges to be the only ones that know the rules. He should try to do better in future but I don't think he should beat himself up over it.
Tbh the judge should clear it up to both of them and if both say ok it would have been a draw its ok and he lets them make the correct paper. And if the winner refuses even though he didnt would have won thats on him but let it be. I would have accepted the draw, done similar things at events because yes I want to win but fair and sportsmanship is extremely important to me and my "honor" if you can say it like that.
I love when the structure is that you receive an entry price and for how you ended you get more. BTW. I'm not sure if my local store is an OTS, I can't recall them giving OTS packs, but I tend to go just to have fun, but I tend to never go back with pricing. FFS my best result was 3/8 with Ice Barrier (1st Place was Floo and 2nd Place was Labrynth). Fun fact I know the other players were on Tenpai, Stun and Dino.
Hi. I play warhammer. We normally leave entire armies at the venue over night its extremely common That beeing said its easier a spot a painted army then a peiece of cardboard you mom voult print a gazilion off in her plotter
Nope. If you lend your deck to somebody who is unexperienced and you don't even explain them the value of what you just gave them, that's on you. "You like your stuff, and other people also like your stuff" that's why you don't just let others borrow your things of significant value. They guy who left the bag with the deck unattended made a huge mistake, but he did not do it out of malice. He should be ashamed for making a rookie mistake, but is not fully his fault. I bet that if the owner had explained to the guy how expensive his cards were, he would have been more careful or straight up rejected the offer of borrowing the deck. This could also be the perfect scenario for a scam: let my friend borrow my deck - steal my deck back when he is not looking - let him think that it was stolen - emotionally blackmail him to pay for it. Ultimately, the person to blame is the thief.
Question on the first one: Would this be different, if this wasn't just a guy they met at locals, but their friend, who pushed them to get into the TCG?
Back in wind up inzektor dino rabbit format, I went to a locals that had a large range of ages that played yugioh, but a lot of my friends went there so i decided to go play and hang out. I walked in with inzektor and never dropped a game (only played one kid below 12). The following week, I walked up to the counter to sign up and the store owner said that they implemented a "house banlist" and had banned hornet, centipede, and dragonfly along with a handful of other cards that were in my deck as well as zenmaity (i was siding into windup) and rescue rabbit. He asked if I was going to have a problem and obviously I did because that's nonsense. He wouldn't budget so I built hieratic and OTK'd everyone i played without feeling bad. AITAH?
9 outta 10 players are trustworthy and great. saying this 10% are gonna take that crap asap and no feel any remorse. Keep your friends close and your deck closer. Every YuGiOh player has had to deal with theft and its heart breaking.
It is the fella's responsibility to watch the cards, but if you're giving out hundreds of dollars in value to someone and you don't establish clear terms, then that is also your responsibility. The friend should pay back the deck, however, the lender should acknowledge their own naivety and silly decisions and give them a reasonable schedule for paying back based on their income, like $50-100 a month or what have you. Though it does seem like that's what happened, so hey.
Like, I'm entirely on Gage's side 'bout the you shouldn't reward players for coming in with a shit deck that is never going to top. But Farfa and Doug are right, that you have to bring some sort of incentive to keep the people coming back. And it sucks that you have to make those kind of decisions.
Frankly the issue here is that there is only one way to play yugioh and that is a hyper competitive eternal format. That some people turn up wanting to play a game that is just not the same with their dark magician turbo deck is unfortunate. Not to say it's less valid. As the growing popularity of time wizard in particular can attest other formats can be fun and popular and bring in players. The issue is that they are still hyper competitive and yugioh has styled itself for and fostered a community for only that type of play and many players especially new ones find that hard to adapt to and not to their taste. It's not for me but commander, the casual mtg format is it's most popular and yugioh seems unable to support an equivalent less competitive format.

Ya like if he had them they wouldn't be worth the amount. He's making his mate absorb his market losses lmao.
Gage the type to treat locals like they're a YCS and wondering why people aren't showing up.
The work around to store credit is the OTS store gives packs for prizing and buys them back from the player for store credit
as gage and doug said, if someone is so nice to lend you something, you have to take care of it. it doesnt matter if the cards are worth 1000 dollars or 50 dollars, this is really a douchebag thing to leave stuff that isnt yours unattended. and now to even ponder if he should pay the full amount??? this doesnt make any sense
Cor theft of thousands of dollar, that typically needs a call to the police. That's a felony.
P.S. don't be the person that goes "um awctually what about insurance"
we ran out of content so hard in 2025 we have just started doing stevie blunder videos
30:02 Gage sounded so privileged
Yes like you didnt just pay 5 bucks and supporter your locals.
I think an interesting way would be to give top cut a couple of more packs and then pick 2 random that didnt top also special pricing so you know you can even get smth without beeing in the top cut.
A bit out of touch in the 1st story also by saying it would only take some weeks to pay back
NOW this is a series i can get behind .
I love this! please continue doing this
OMG, as a huge fan of those reddit story videos, I LOVE this idea. Please keep this series going because it is something that I consume a lot about any subject, so a yugioh one is like heaven to me and my free time.
I like this new Discussion Format, I constantly thinking about who was wrong with my Arguments in my Head :)
yeah even when i was a newer player, i never left my bag unattended unless i trusted the person i asked to watch my stuff, and even then, i rarely leave my stuff unattended
You should invite mbt here, call the show the wonky quartet, and dont pay him specifically
Really liked this vid, liked the format
The first story is that they are a grown up adult. Its a common sense to being your stuff all the tome on a public space all the time unless if you have someone that explicitly said that they can watch your stuff. Trusting a stranger that its not their sole purpose to watching out luggage is just plain stupid and reckless.
Gage's anti-casual stance is why yugioh has fallen from 3rd most popular game to fifth.
He should get into flesh and blood.
I love this would definitely watch this every time per week
Another Lesson here is that Never use your High rarity card for games, or let poeple borrow it...
i cant believe Sangan lend a poeple that are still new a Quarter century card like that.
Gage talking shit about the owner who "no"ed about the lost art, but would gladly say "cry about it🥰" when olayers complained about the prize system.
Stealing from a player is completely different from complaining about prizing
It's almost a crime that MBT isn't in this serie (I hope it becomes an actual serie)
People at the US not knowing what to do with ots packs, while here in latam they last like a month if we are lucky...
Sangan stole the borrowed deck back and wanted the money too coz he is a fiend after all 🤔😆
When do you ever leave your stuff out in public unattended? That’s not even a card game thing, dude’s just dumb.
Hi. I play warhammer. We normally leave entire armies at the venue over night its extremely common
That beeing said its easier a spot a painted army then a peiece of cardboard you mom voult print a gazilion off in her plotter
If you go to a locals with a meta deck you don't deserve to have access to locals.
Will of the Councel with 3 quarters of the wonky quartet pog
Dzeff knows best. RuneScape teaches you about supply and demand... And how never to get scammed. Offering free armor trimming btw.
My reddit story monki brain loves this format, hope some stories I submit end up on here!
finally, a yapping video! Farfa's biggest strength in the YGO circle! Loving it
Also HUGE that M*T is not part of this. I hope it stays that way.
AITAH?
I literally will never borrow anything from someone for reasons just like this.
9 outta 10 players are trustworthy and great. saying this 10% are gonna take that crap asap and no feel any remorse. Keep your friends close and your deck closer.
Every YuGiOh player has had to deal with theft and its heart breaking.
Wheel of the Councel
agree with doug and gage, he has to pay the money. If i borrow something, i take care of that even more than if it was my stuff
ANOTHER SERIES??? Great, I guess I’ll have to make time for another one, btw stealing only WHEN???
Will of the Counsel AU! Love it
I wasn't going to click on this video, but then I saw how you formatted the title. Keep up the great work Fartfa!
Pot of Prosperity definitely got a QCSR print in RAC2
Doug being chaz Princeton st north academy
this drama situation is crazy
Will of the Councel but it actually IS a Yugioh podcast
Its not like a reward to get an entry pack you paid 5 bucks and that includes the pack. So Im totally against Gages side.
Knockoff of the Councel (I'm so excited for this show ❤)
PREACH DRAMA TIME BUT YUGIOH
Listen if you guys wanted to do more Will of the Councel, I’m sure Joseph would let ya. (Joking, always down for more shenanigans with these groups)
