Wemby shooting as many threes as possible now is the BEST thing he can do for his long term future in the league. Outside shots put less strain on his body, as he doesn't have to bang in the paint with other big men, and so reduces his chances of injury, hopefully leading to a longer career. Not to mention the fact that the only way to get good at shooting is to shoot, and so while he's only shooting 33% from 3 now, if he can get to 40%+ he would be absolutely LETHAL as there's no way literally anyone in the league can hope to block, let alone contest a 3 point jump shot from a 7' 4" dude, meaning he'd be literally the ULTIMATE floor spacer, dragging the other teams bigs out to the line and beyond, probably drawing doubles, creating space in the lane / paint for his team mates to cut into, and Wemby could literally pass OVER anyone to hit the cutter, so the version of Wemby that will hopefully become an elite 3pt shooter, if surrounded by some other decent shooters and cutters, will lead to a team offense that will be absolutely UNSTOPPABLE. I was skeptical about Wemby at first, thought the hype was doing heavy lifting, but after the first half of the 2023-2024 regular season I'm fully on the Wemby bandwagon this Frenchman is insane.
I mean it's obvious he has all the gifts to be an all time great, but his "weakness" is also obvious in that you can't be that big and lean without being injury prone. Shooting 3's will help him stay healthy longer and on the court longer. Wemby would honestly probably be out of the league in a few years due to injury if he spent all his time in the paint.
The key to be a strong inside scorer is weight, rather than height imo. Wemby can wait until he gets strong. JJJ takes a similar route, and I believe that keep him healthier.
Shaq struggled so much to make a three but he honestly didn’t care… he was just so dominant inside he didn’t even try to practice three point shooting. “Nineteen Points in the quarter” as said before the three.
Which is wild because he CAN shoot the three-ball better than 90% of players on Earth. Unfortunately that's just not good enough for the NBA, and he knew that
@@ogTryhard21 I mean it's hard to judge because he never practiced them, so how good of a shooter he could have become is very debatable. But usually free throw percentage is a somewhat good indicator and shaq was not very good at that.
People are forgetting that being tall is not just benefits. Wemby is shredded, but he is having trouble squaring up against some stronger bigs, the obvious answer would be 'gain weight', but his height make that troublesome. If he gets seriously heavier, his ankles are going to feel that. You can't be 7'4 and have a build like Lebron.
I don't understand how Wemby taking 3's isn't "taing advantage of his height" it's almost impossible to stop. He should do special training like the card counting MIT team did they had loud music chickens going crazy so they could do it under pressure Wemby just needs that since they can't stop him.
please please please don't get injured. Would love to see what he grows into. Love his talent, but most of all love his attitude. Humble but confident. Great composure in high pressure moments too. What a blessing it is to see him play!
It kind of reminds me of Wilt Chamberlain. Wilt was the most dominate player in NBA history, bar none. He had insane vertical leap for his size because he did the high jump. He could sprint faster than guards as a big man, because he did track and field. He could bench press hundreds of pounds and was physically stronger than anyone on the court. Wilt didn't want to dunk and finger roll the ball in every play though. He thought it was more skillful to shoot a fadeaway like Dirk and that accounted for 60% of his shots. Still the 7th highest scoring player of all time playing only 13 true seasons (1 he was injured). The thing is though, when he wanted to, he just slammed it in when he was making it a point to score more because no one could stop him. Wemby should go this route. It's good he has a three point shot and that it's developed, but if the Spurs need points, he needs to not mess around, get the basket, get the points because no one can stop him throwing it in and get back in the game.
Respect what the Spurs are doing. They know their stuff. And I also think if there's a team that has the awareness that they don't know everything, it would be them. That is to say, they appreciate the magnitude of the responsibility that is mentoring a genuinely unique talent, one the NBA has likely not ever seen, and not putting him in a box other than what he and the team builds. I believe that is truly what it means to help him reach his full potential -- expectations of what a player his size should play like be damned.
I think playing a little bit away from the post and from the contact with heavier bigs also helps Wemby to protect his body from injury. His game is effective as it is now, and longevity was always the biggest question mark for his career potential.
I think the reason why Wemby shoots so many 3s is because basically no one in the league can contest his shot lol. Wait until he gets some more muscle and he will be like giannis with a 3 ball
After watch9ing the whole video i dont know, KD never put the muscle on as a big man and is still a force on the court. Jimbo sees that the game is moving toward versatile players and wemby could be the template
I think you should have included that clip of wemby from one of the recent games Vs Nuggets, when 3 defenders rushed him as he was preparing for a 3, and passed the ball. Hes such a threat in the paint he can already take up 2-3 defenders and free his teammates, now he's doing it beyond the arc as well. I think that's gonna be very important when he gets championship calibre teammates who can really deliver on the space he frees up
I'm french so naturally Wemby is my favorite player, it's always been hard to find a "favorite team" / a team to root for without being a bandwagon because I'm not american and I can't support my city or whatever. Anyways I've been waiting for his coming into the league for years and my worst fear is seeing him get hurt, eventually it will happen but I'm having flashbacks of Drose and Yao Ming and don't want his career to end like that. I pray for Hector Banana-Bread 🙏
I think what a lot of people are forgetting is THIS IS HIS 2ND SEASON. As good as he is, believe it or not, he can become better. But in order to improve, you have to let him develop his game. Allowing him to work on his threes early in his career is much easier than trying to do so 5-10 years in. It's so when the time comes where he NEEDS to hit a 3, he'll be able to. Not to mention, something that hampers player development is INJURIES. If Wemby spammed post-ups and attacked the rim every possession, that's far riskier than shooting a 3. Believe me, Wemby knows that he can easily dunk.
Nobody's gonna see this but when I'm sad, I sometimes put a garbage bag over myself, bring a large plant pot with me to a public park and pretend I'm a sapling.
@ Luka finished 4th in MVP race in his sophomore season. He had 17 triple doubles that year and got a 40 pt triple double in his first playoff series averaging about a 30 pt triple double for the whole series. Wemby is cool, definitely the better defender but lets not kid ourselves and act like Wemby is anywhere close to Luka in terms of playmaking.
It’s looking like Wemby vs Ant for the future face of the NBA. Will depend on who’ll be getting the most clout and chips as well as how effective their plays will be. Ant’s more like the stars of the past: an athletic two way guard with a cocky attitude and the skills to back it up. Wemby’s the future.
I feel like Wemby needs to make use of both depending on which one is most efficient. fuck highlights just easy open looks, pull out the iso island only when no one is open and he has the ball
Oldies always saying this era is soft, that players of this generation won't survive the 80's or 90's era. I don't think so. I'd say it's the other way around.
aside from everything people say, as someone who watches the spurs' every single game, wemby is basically the teams' spacing. we don't have great shooters
Yeah I have said it since the start of this season. This is the Spurs elite organization doing what they do best. They are maximizing what he can be in 5 years. He will be unreal very soon.
Guys, you're overthinking. I'm french and Wemby said it multiples times : shooting that many 3's WON'T BE HIS BREAD AND BUTTER! The Spurs are in building mode, but the kid is so good that it prob won't take long until they became contender, meaning THIS season is probably the only one of his entire career where working on his 3's in-game without any pressure will be acceptable. It's all about reps and getting comfy with his 3's, trust me he knows damn well the most efficient way for him to play, the kid is smart
If shaq played in this era. He would have to lose a lot of weight to not have a short career like zion cause of the pace and space this era requires. Which will slightly reduce his dominance, so would need some sort of skill to be relevant. If shaq had the body of giannis without the decent shooting and ball handling he'll be a deandre jordan. Cause the only shot he can make are point blank layups and dunks.
Spurs fans cant comprehend that a player can develop is their first few years the spurs are still looking to get a few high picks to put around wemby and develop wemby into kd+
Wemby going hard in the paint would be like Goku dropping his weighted clothing. Let him stay healthy outside of it. If ratings drop when gets 'too good' at shooting he can train up to be the big man everyone wants him to be.
I remember when Durant found his game and became almost untouchable for 5 years. Wemby has the potential and ability to do what Durant did and do for 10+ years and winning championships.
I think it is a good choice that he plays beyond the arc till he can put some weight. He will have a hard time backing down on people on how low the center of gravity his defender would be
All big men that exclusively do that are out of the league or not considered high commodities. Gobert is clowned by almost everyone. Also just because he’s tall doesn’t mean he’s a big man. He’s more of a Kevin Durant archetype.
i believe he could incorporate a little more paintwork to his bag on nights he knows he isnt shooting the best. genuinely would make him even more unstoppable
I have clear memories of watching NBA Action or something like that and Nowitski grabbing a rebound, bringing the ball up himself then knocking down the pull up three. Could not believe what I'd seen. (Speaking of Sabonis and Unicorns. Allegedly before he got injured he was Shaq, but with Jokic's skill set)
There is a key interview in french before the draft (FirstTeam), he said that he doesn t want to be label like a classical "center" on offense, he likes to play like a guard. He has consiousness to have skills already on that part, plus the fact to avoid to be hurt in his first years, show how mature he is, and also likes strategy. I was not that much surprise he love chess. Thank you for this video, you clearly understand who he is and where is going to.
I actually like that Wemby isn’t in the pain 90% of the time, at least right now. He can play In the paint more once he puts more weight on, which he’s doing currently. He put on 25 lbs from his rookie season to season 2. Once he gets stronger and puts on good weight, he’ll be giannis + kd + Hakeem all in one. He WILL be the greatest player we’ve ever seen. Count on it.
Sometimes it seems like the league does not want old records to be broken unless your name is Jordan or Lebron...Wemby should have been defensive player of the year last year easily over Gobert...he would broke Kawhi record by more than 3 years...Hope Wemby gets like 7 DPOY and 7 MVP-s just to shatter the records...I will never foget how they robbed Luka of the all star game his first year...as an 18-year old he was giving the bussiness to the whole league..he had better stats than Lebron had in his rookie year...Luka would become only the third player in 20 years behind Blake and Yao to make it as a rookie and we all know how Yao got the all star spot...Wemby is an alien and I really like watching him play and I hope he will do well...
The only question I have is whether, under the absolute perfect circumstances, Wemby will break THE unbreakable scoring record: 101 points in a single game.

@@ogTryhard21 I mean it's hard to judge because he never practiced them, so how good of a shooter he could have become is very debatable. But usually free throw percentage is a somewhat good indicator and shaq was not very good at that.
Yeah imagine curry working on dunking over guys instead of using his jumper lol
People are forgetting that being tall is not just benefits. Wemby is shredded, but he is having trouble squaring up against some stronger bigs, the obvious answer would be 'gain weight', but his height make that troublesome. If he gets seriously heavier, his ankles are going to feel that. You can't be 7'4 and have a build like Lebron.
I think the best part of jxmys videos is the storytelling, im not sure how he does it but its great
The section on Dirk is part of why I'm excited for him to be a studio analyst. So tired of the old heads that can't seem to grasp basic math.
"wemby isn't taking full advantage of his height" is shooting a shot with a release point 2 feet above the defender's hand not "using his height"?
I don't understand how Wemby taking 3's isn't "taing advantage of his height" it's almost impossible to stop. He should do special training like the card counting MIT team did they had loud music chickens going crazy so they could do it under pressure Wemby just needs that since they can't stop him.
I want to start a petition to get Wemby to change his number to 51, double down on the "alien" label
No, number 1 is the perfect number for him 😉
Dude great idea. And then his nickname could be Area 51.
please please please don't get injured. Would love to see what he grows into. Love his talent, but most of all love his attitude. Humble but confident. Great composure in high pressure moments too. What a blessing it is to see him play!
As fragile as Wemby seems, it's no wonder he doesn't get in the paint more. Him having a 3 point shot will add to his longevity.
He has the tools to become one of the all time greats!
After seeing many of the all-time greats In the last 35 years, I agree. This man is special.
He could legit be considered the GOAT when it’s all said and done
That would depend on how many rings he wins
Lebron can finally retire and sleep well
Tbf so does obi toppin or Andrew wiggins
Awesome video sir. Your storytelling is A+. Your portrait of Wemby, through words, is immaculate. Keep up the great work.
Yea cause Chet plays more around the rim & look at him now…
After watch9ing the whole video i dont know, KD never put the muscle on as a big man and is still a force on the court. Jimbo sees that the game is moving toward versatile players and wemby could be the template
HECTOR BANANA BREAD'S BEEN COOKING UP SOME BANANA PUDDING 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Probably good strategy being at 3 point range - less injuries and down court first for defense. Less running too.
Hector Banana Bread has got to be an all-time nickname and the fact is that Victor Wembenyama is actually so fittingly funny 😂😂
He's putting up better numbers than AD IN HIS SECOND YEAR. Top five in the league rn FOR SURE.
How is he a top 5 player and not in the top 5 seed? Absurd
@@javigar133so who's your top 5? 😂
@@javigar133it’s a team sport, not tennis
Uhh maybe top 7-12
Wemby numbers at this age is an anomaly. Could be in line for top5 players in history. Welcome back jimmy
His Trajectory is Crazy based off these first two seasons
4:12 There You Go…
i wouldnt be suprised if wemby was the next player to be in the NBA logo, with his build that logo would hit
Nobody's gonna see this but when I'm sad, I sometimes put a garbage bag over myself, bring a large plant pot with me to a public park and pretend I'm a sapling.

bro what
Dude, whenever I die I want you to do my eulogy! Your voice (pause) and cadence is amazing! You’re like the dude from the animal planet stuff!
Luka was an MVP candidate in his second season aswell.
Yea this was one of the most flawed Jimmy vids in a while
Luka cant defend shi- you goofy as hell
With no defense and skills as wemby, not even close
Luka cant play defense... wemby is already tge b2b dpoty
If Wemby stays healthy and consistent he has the best chance of beating the all time scoring record by the end of his career.

The best part of Jxmy’s videos has to be the storytelling. I’m not sure how he does it, but it’s amazing! 🎥👏✨

ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER JXMYHIGHROLLER VIDEO MADE!!! 🗣️🔥
I feel like Wemby needs to make use of both depending on which one is most efficient. fuck highlights just easy open looks, pull out the iso island only when no one is open and he has the ball
One retires, the next one spawns...
holy these metrics are acc insane, bro the best sport analytic i know
People expecting wemby to play like a traditional center didn't watch a second of his game before he was drafted
Oldies always saying this era is soft, that players of this generation won't survive the 80's or 90's era. I don't think so. I'd say it's the other way around.
He is the Avatar
He’s like 20 years old. Might as well work on those 3s and creating ur own shot now rather than later like Giannis did
5:03 That’s insane
Genuinely think the only thing preventing him from being the goat is possible injuries.
not even 1 second i. and i alr know he’s talking abt bronny🙏😫
Mans built like my 2k14 character, and plays like him too - doing shit like its out of a video game
This man is the Asap Rocky of youtube... barley posts but when he do its a BANGERRRRRRRRRR
aside from everything people say, as someone who watches the spurs' every single game, wemby is basically the teams' spacing. we don't have great shooters
SUBSCRIBE TO THIS MAN!
he is 21 years of age ladies and gentlemen. 21 YEARS OF AGE. Already the best defender in the league and a top 10 player.
W thumbnail ong
Wemby playing basketball is like most people shooting on a basketball hoop the height of wemby… he makes it look easy, because arguably, it is
If shaq played in this era.
No matter how good they are, theres always some "analyst" complaining anyway, just to get attention.
So who cares.
This kid will be great.
Spurs fans cant comprehend that a player can develop is their first few years the spurs are still looking to get a few high picks to put around wemby and develop wemby into kd+
All the bandwagon fans you mean. Genuine basketball fans see this as developing a different part of his skill set before the spurs start contending
He will have a hard time backing down on people on how low the center of gravity his defender would be
Wemby is not altering basketball, he's altering what women will choose in the future, the extinction of short men
He is heading down the right path. A lot of people were hoping Zion would be a generational talent. Wemby is a superstar.
I miss the days when big men battled in the paint.
All big men that exclusively do that are out of the league or not considered high commodities. Gobert is clowned by almost everyone. Also just because he’s tall doesn’t mean he’s a big man. He’s more of a Kevin Durant archetype.
ok
i believe he could incorporate a little more paintwork to his bag on nights he knows he isnt shooting the best. genuinely would make him even more unstoppable
You will never know who this is the top comment…

I have clear memories of watching NBA Action or something like that and Nowitski grabbing a rebound, bringing the ball up himself then knocking down the pull up three. Could not believe what I'd seen.
(Speaking of Sabonis and Unicorns. Allegedly before he got injured he was Shaq, but with Jokic's skill set)
been waiting for this all month
Best way I can think of to describe victor is KD with elite defense
Waited a month for this man, goat 🥲
Wemby is out here reenacting the 2k19 play stretch build fr.
33 percent clip is actually terrible for someone who won't get his shot blocked regardless
Luka having a higher defensive box plus minus than Dwight Howard is what's most fascinating in this video 😂
