Agree with most but especially incorporating vintage or antiques and finding the right balance. So many designers are taking this look all the way. It looks dark and old and the eye has no where to go. I like the lightness of modern with just a couple of vintage pieces. It then looks intentional and interesting.
I second those both, AND add the Joanna Gaines pottery he showed at the end. All three are cringe. TO WHOM do those look remotely good??? Maybe WE are taking crazy pills? I don't even like the reddish metal he showed, and chrome is just something we have already come to terms with. I don't hate chrome, I almost think it is a neutral classic by now. For me, brass is best, but neither will ever go out of style.
@@Donna-vh5ym I think the problem with it is that it does not look like gold, more like a plastic gold that is glaringly shiny. A gold leaf mirror has a soft sheen to it, that I like. But you are right, lots of people must like it or they wouldn't sell it.

Just finished a reno, tick to statement flooring (except herringbone light neutral wood instead of tile) fluting & appliance garage. Curves incorporated into the furniture, especially chairs.
Our whole downstairs has been tiled (all one color) before there was 4 different flooring in this small place Foyer had one kind of tile There is a different tile around the fireplace The kitchen had linoleum or sheet vinyl The living room dining room had carpeting, and it was all one flowing, bang down the hallway and all that stuff. I'm glad that you include Smart Home aspect to the trend in home design because most designers videos that I saw seldom (almost never) talked about this. When this is actually an inevitable part to incorporating a modern home. I mean aesthetics are one thing but we also cannot escape the fact that technology is fast becoming a part of our psyche even in our homes.
Who knew a chair could twerk? Your vest is all that!! Now, that being said....I want appliance garages!!! How did I not think of this first? Or at all? They don't have to wear well. The next trend is due in a few months and the epoxy and gold have to be ripped out and sent to landfill on schedule. How else can we waste all our money if we don't keep up?
I'm probably the only person here that feels this way, but I really dislike every single one of those light fixtures. I think they'd get tiresome pretty quickly, and look really dated, and frankly, they look cheap even if they cost a small fortune. Totally agree about the epoxy floors, and the polished gold fixtures. I'm not a huge fan of the curved corners shown, slightly rounded corners can look good, though. But those big curves remind me of parking garages. Still, a very interesting video!

DD is awesome. Regarding technology, I need to convert a closet to supporting wifi, printing, charging A LOT of misc tech, hide the rehargable vacuume, and more! What are the things to consider with the design? Can I get pull out shelves on a slant to access items being charged? Is it within electric code to put that much electricity thru a closet? What to put at eye height versus what to put at the bottom? I want to know how others are hiding the tech we need but don't want to look at.
Love your ideas, Mr. Phoenix. However, I disagree with the idea that open floor plans are incompatible with working from home. A large area including kitchen, dining, and living spaces is a timeless lifestyle choice, not a trend. A bedroom can become an office, or an intentional office room can be built for privacy.
Or a larger living room with kitchen, with lots of breathing space, can have a desk where we work. It largely depends on what the work includes (in my case just a laptop and a mouse is all I need, additional screen appreciated but optional), whether we have children at home etc, but this is something I think I would personally love if I had the space for it.
