  • Today we replace the water pump in my 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix. This isnt the supercharged GTP but it should be basically the same, just an extra belt. This should work on all buick, oldsmobile or other GM 3.8L engines.

      How long did it take, time frame, from start to finish? My GP is stuck at work, looking to replace my pump on lunch break

      Thanks for the video. Only thing id do different is I wouldve loosened the 8mm bolts on the pump prior to removing the belt.

      Completed this job as well as new valve cover gaskets, grommets, new hoses and coolant change. OMG!! That power steering pump bottom bolt was horrible. I pray I don’t have to fool with that again anytime soon. Keep up the great work.

    This guide was EXTREMELY helpful. Thank you for condensed information that a layman like myself could understand to get this job done. Additionally glad that you got right to the point of what you were doing as I think most people looking for these type of videos don't want to watch something 30min+ for a quick fix like this

    I watched 3 different videos before I found this and you were the only one that didn’t have a mental breakdown with the power steering pump issues. Very helpful thank you!

    Nicely done. Done many WPs but none on the 3.8. this made it simple. Thanks brother!

    Your attitude is badass. Clearly happy doing what you love. In doing so, you give distinct details and have provided a very solid how to video. Thank you!! I would suggest using a air ratchet, but you seemed to do fine without one! I use the air ratchet, pump it once, break it by hand with the air ratchet, then pump the air again and they all came out easy that way.

    A good tip is when you take out the old bolts slide them into the new pump before installing it then take a photo of the pattern then install your pump and follow the bolt pattern you can buy a cheap strap wrench for Lowe's or Home Depot to help with the pulley or use the screwdriver technique and visually check the belt for any cracks or tears

    what a video!! I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix gtp and my water pump is leaking. I have to fill it up twice a day. Before work and leaving work. A shop wanted 190.00 for labor and not including the 30.00 dollar water pump. I’m gonna complete the job myself!!👊🏼👊🏼

    Nice video. Helped knowing before starting the job, especially with the p/s pump. Definitely sketch the belts' routing (nicely) before removing.
    This is instruction for the experienced and does not cover all aspects and wArNiNgS, which is appreciated. I got real lucky remounting the blind p/s bolts - could have taken an additional hour or more.

    Add thread sealant to the 4 13mm water pump bolts. They go into coolant passages in the block.

    I found it useful to also remove the electrical box there, and also the battery so the electrical box could be folded out of the way. Other than that, thanks for the guidance!

  • @dthundergunb3115
    @dthundergunb3115 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Luckily the one in working on is locked up lol no screwdriver needed how in the hell did you get that off without removing the rear bottom pulley that's pressed onto the pump with the reservoir and s*** because I can't get that completely off there without happily being in the way I'm just curious how you did that because that step wasn't shown

    How did you know that the old water pump was bad?

    • @TopLineRacer
      @TopLineRacer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Car was fluctuating the temp alot on hot days, not a definite sign but knew I had a cooling system problem. I also noticed a very small leak that looked like it was seeping around the pump. The pump was cheap so I just decided to change it first and it fixed the problem.

    You NEVER cleaned a mated surface with a razor blade. You well gouched the surface and cause it to leak even tho you have a gasket. PLASTIC scapper is the way to go.

    • @TopLineRacer
      @TopLineRacer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe. I've never had an issue.
