Yeh. Loadshedding is really giving us problems here in SA. Kenya is doing well regarding its energy mix. They are one of the largest producers of geothermal power in the world
The tourist vs Kenyan prices actually has interesting origins.Kenya used to market itself exclusively for high end tourists. Budget tourists, like the British who like to throng the coasts of Spain could not afford Kenya's luxury safari and beach packages. Back in 2000s when election violence was commonplace, Western countries would react disproportionately by claiming their citizens would be in danger if they travelled to Kenya and essentially banned them from coming. Obviously that had a devastating effect on the tourism industry. So tourist establishments and destinations, which were facing complete ruin decided to set separate prices to appeal to the domestic market and that saved the industry. And it stuck. And it's a good thing too because it was domestic tourism that kept the industry afloat when foreign tourism all but dried up during Covid. Now there are families from upcountry who couldn't afford it before but make a point to vacation at the coast every year.
Very true! From the onset of Safari tourism which was pioneered in Kenya, the target market was the filthy rich, aristocrats and their peers and corporate clientele. Budget tourists and backpackers are a recent phenomena hence the pain in pricing to suit every category.
To all you visitors from other countries ...... that have the nerve to leave your own countries ..... and move to KE .... and brazenly get on youtube to state that you hate KE food, what stops you from buying your own food and preparing it in your rented apartments or Air BNBs? Please QUIT the bullshit. Our food is good. Just as you claim to dislike our food, we too find nothing spectacular with what you like out other foods. Who in their right mind honestly enjoys food heavily saturated in palm oil and extra spicy chilis? Who in their right mind would honestly enjoy meat mixed with fish and okra and AGAIN, heavily saturated in palm oil? No wonder you guys don't reason as we do. No sane Kenyan especially in a big city like Nairobi or Mombasa has 5 hours to waste grinding food in a deep, long, manual wooden mortar just to make a simple dish like ugali that only takes 5 minutes to cook. Tourists, visitors etc. please learn some etiquette when you visit or interact with other cultures. We Kenyans, when we visit other cultures or even other tribes within our own country and notice something different with their food, we don't INSULT THEM. We simply buy our own food or ingredients and prepare the food the way we prefer it. Even here in the US, I simply buy my own food and ingredients to prepare what I know is best for my health. I do not TRASH TALK about US food however good or bad it may be perceived by other people. Again, quit your bullshit. It's not anyone's responsibility to cook you good food. Buy your own and prepare it yourself or go back where they have the food that you enjoy. Sheesh!

You have not seen diverse until you have been to South Africa. Interesting video especially the comments on food. As a Kenyan I also struggle with food in South Africa. There is sugar in everything. It's so hard to avoid in restaurants.
I do understand you about the tourism prices but they had to do that so that The locals could tour locally coz locals could find those prices so expensive So they did that to improve local tourism and about the social comments from Kenyans that is normal especially when you talk negatively about Kenya expect such comments Kenyans they don't just like negative comments about kenya so Just get used to it and about corruption that's the biggest problem that Kenya has we hope the new government will do something about it
I m a Kenyan who lived in South Africa and hated their mixed spiced food, South African food was just mixed spices nothing else, and the south african cook chicken legs which they sell in supermarket while in Kenya chicken legs are used to make chicken soups, South african are not used to fresh Kenyan food for they fry everything, and most people line up in KFC Nandos etc to eat, while we Kenyans are used to fresh cooked food eg githeri, pilau, Ugali with different vegs eg managu, etc I missed Kenyan food eg nduma, sweet potatoes etc while in south africa. And most south africans have entittlement about their country as very developed but are shocked about a country ,like Kenya catching up in comparison with South african. Many young south african girls sleep with old men, even marry them and its common in south africa for girls to get pregnant when very young even at nine years I witnessed that in their schools Over all we Kenyans are much more aware of world news, than South Africans
the review is fair and honest. kenyans are known to be bullies on social media, the maniac drivers, and above all, the corruption which is a thorn to us as kenyans. but above all, i think the country pros outweigh its challenges. we hope to be even better in the near future.
Different prices, well Kenya’s economy is solely dependant on agriculture and tourism this is how it manages being 6th largest economy in Africa. We do not have natural resources in big quantities like oil in Nigeria or gold and diamonds in SA.So its cheaper for locals to encourage domestic tourism, theres also a price for members of East african community and permanent residents in Kenya and also a price for tourists.
You are right on corruption its major issue. Lots of work needed there…still scratching my head about biriani…probably try various restaurants you might like it .
I hate corruption with all my heart, especially the one which is committed on our day to day lives infront of us. I was dissapointed in Nigeria, a simple que to a bank you gotta pay someone so they help you, things just cant go in order. If you do not have money you'd wait there the whole day.
Locals pay less on tourism sites to encourage local tourism... Local tourism is earning Kenya a lot of money especially during Corona pandemic when there were travel restrictions
Loadshedding is also scheduled…we have an app that notifies each area of when they’ll get load-shed. Depending on the current stage of loadshedding, you might not have electricity for 2 hours at a time or 4 in some cases. But load shedding isn’t a daily thing as well..there are some years where it’s really bad and you’ll get load shed maybe 3 - 6 months then the rest of the year there’s no load shedding…some years will be really good where you’ll get 2 years straight without it… Another thing to consider is that although SA is the largest producer of electricity on the continent, we also sell a lot of it to our SADC neighbouring countries…so Eskom’s (our power producer) electricity has to go a long way
@@AnathiTshabe It's a mix of boiled maize and beans later fried with onions and tomatoes. Most boarding schools cook it for their students as it's deemed more economical 🙂

Social media in kenya is minefield be it Facebook, instangram some TH-cam channels and especially Twitter... there is a group of people in social media whose work is to troll others...
Stay away from the hashtag known as #KOT (Kenyans on Twitter). It is more toxic than Chernobyl. They literally look for something to attack everyday, if there's nothing, they're not happy. They've had the most toxic twars in Twitter's history with their most epic being years ago when they clashed separately with Nigerians and South Africans and won both wars with the most toxic abuse you'll ever see. Weirdly, those same accounts are run by people who are quite pleasant in real life.
Social Media Attitude. The way you describe their social media attitude sounds to me like the typical Nigerian attitude in general, which is lacking in humility, condescending, lacking in basic ettiquette and absolute disregard for the right of others to dwell peacefully.

I feel you with the corruption part as a Kenyan I hate it too and the social media part is just that there's lots of Keyboard warriors with no jobs using free public wifi to burn time online triggering people
Even in Nairobi CBD, it's relatively small rough part of the so-called "downtown" where your phone could get snatched.
Everybody hates Kenyan food and we Kenyans can't understand why 😂 West Africans say it's bland and unspiced. Southern Africans complain about our spices 😂

First i have been waiting for this video because I know coming from S.A which developed than us here was going to be some sort of a reality check for us here . secondly, siz you're very objective.I think I would love to see more people from the south visit .... finally corruption stinks and the cost of corruption and it's implications to our economy is Soo huge and a times unbearable but with challenges comes an opportunity and for Kenya the opportunity is the 2010 constitution which when fully implemented we will have our country back...we love you
Karibu sana Kenya Anathi. Hope you make Kenya or the wider East Afrika your home.
Avoid the strangers who approach you wanting something.
Make a good local friend you can travel with to bargain prices for you.
Because you look like us they 8think you are local 😊
Here is some Kiswahili just to defend yourself from tourist prices.
1. Hii ni ngapi?..... This is how much?
2. Hiyo bei gharama sana... That price is too expensive.
3. Punguza bei zaidi..... Drop the price alot.
4. Sitanunua na bei hiyo.... I will not buy with that price.
5. Nataka hii, lakini hiyo sitaki.... I want this one but not that one.
Mungu akubariki nchini Kenya.
God bless you in Kenya.

great video n as a african american looking to move to South Africa or Kenya this definitely helped me, just subbed n i'm not sure on which because of the loadshedding in South Africa but after hearing how forcefully overpriced tourist are in kenya i don't know but i'll definitely will visit both but South Africa dose sound more cooler n surprisingly cheap and affordable to a american at least n if i'm able to buy a house as a foreigner i'll probably move there, cape town looks really stunning n Johannesburg as well to💯💯💯

All in all i think your likes and dislikes of Kenya are fair. Thanks for sharing.
Interesting video especially the comments on food. As a Kenyan I also struggle with food in South Africa. There is sugar in everything. It's so hard to avoid in restaurants.
Interesting perspective. I never thought about it that way. But I get you, we do have a lot of sugary food here 😅
True about social media even our recent retired president uhuru decided to quit twitter coz people were rough on him
If you can drive in Kenya, you can drive anywhere in the world 😂
Avoid the well established hotels if you want to experience true Kenyan food.
Small local eatery joints are heaven.🤞🤞

We love south africans...they are amazing
We love Kenyans too, very wonderful people. I love how Kenyans have alot to brag about but choose to remain humble, unlike Nigerians.
@@hopebuhali3887😂😂😂😂😂
I do understand you about the tourism prices but they had to do that so that The locals could tour locally coz locals could find those prices so expensive So they did that to improve local tourism and about the social comments from Kenyans that is normal especially when you talk negatively about Kenya expect such comments Kenyans they don't just like negative comments about kenya so Just get used to it and about corruption that's the biggest problem that Kenya has we hope the new government will do something about it
If electricity goes away in Kenya the government would not be able to collect taxes they can't afford blackouts and low internet
fair judgment on cultural food variations and that is the beauty of travel.
Most honest TH-camr about my country Kenya.
Welele
@@KholoKhangale-yq7igthey sound so angry lol
the review is fair and honest. kenyans are known to be bullies on social media, the maniac drivers, and above all, the corruption which is a thorn to us as kenyans. but above all, i think the country pros outweigh its challenges. we hope to be even better in the near future.
IT'S GOOD TO BE HONEST. I LIKED YOUR FRANKNESS 👏
Well balanced observations 👍...enjoy your stay🙂
Different prices, well Kenya’s economy is solely dependant on agriculture and tourism this is how it manages being 6th largest economy in Africa. We do not have natural resources in big quantities like oil in Nigeria or gold and diamonds in SA.So its cheaper for locals to encourage domestic tourism, theres also a price for members of East african community and permanent residents in Kenya and also a price for tourists.
I need to get permanent residency or something so I don’t pay these tourist prices 🤣🙏🏾
You are right on corruption its major issue. Lots of work needed there…still scratching my head about biriani…probably try various restaurants you might like it .
Great Welcome! 🇰🇪
What an African beauty 👍🏽
I hate corruption with all my heart, especially the one which is committed on our day to day lives infront of us. I was dissapointed in Nigeria, a simple que to a bank you gotta pay someone so they help you, things just cant go in order. If you do not have money you'd wait there the whole day.
Lol what?
Those are valid points that irritate us as Kenyans too 😅
Karibu kenya
I only came here because of your avi, damn SA girls are cute as hell.
But load shedding isn’t a daily thing as well..there are some years where it’s really bad and you’ll get load shed maybe 3 - 6 months then the rest of the year there’s no load shedding…some years will be really good where you’ll get 2 years straight without it…
Another thing to consider is that although SA is the largest producer of electricity on the continent, we also sell a lot of it to our SADC neighbouring countries…so Eskom’s (our power producer) electricity has to go a long way

It is the local tourist who has sustained the industry during tough covid times, thus the preference.

Our former president even quit Twitter. Nature of Kenyans never mind.
Actually most Kenyans think the police service is full of mediocrity, in fact majority of people despise them

@@tyali84 . The only problem with this statement is that Kenya is a tourist country. Believe me all the international restaurants and food are here. They are just hidden in serene places and some you access through reservation. In the capital as opposed to Mombasa you'll find everything that you may want anywhere in the world. Nairobi is ranked 12th globally and 1st in Africa by exparts for a reason
What are you all talking about?
I'm surprised by you disliking our food. (You look young, so I understand). I get it when Nigerians don't like our food but Southern Africans with whom we share alot more food because of a shared geography and history...
I think I’m also a picky eater. 🥹
Lol! I got Constipation for two damn after a week of eating local food in kenya!!
This is just one Southern African (South African to be specific) so you can't really make a conclusion that we all don't like your food until a decent amount of us have shared such a view then you can generalize on that basis. It's probably her own personal preference and taste. No hard feelings brother. I prefer Kenyan food to any West African cuisines and I'm South African ❤
