      But honesty how would an African American who has spent less than 3 months in Africa attempt to 'teach Africans (i.e so called Sub -Saharan Africans north of the Limpopo) about south Africans? I mean Africans know each other very well. South Africans were refugees across Africa during Apartheid. They understand South Africans and their xenophobic ways. Isn't this typical American arrogance that looks down on Africans?

      That couple had a lot of good things to say about Kenya in one of their videos in the beginning when they first went to South Africa and experienced some things they did not like and then they moved to Kenya and they had really good things to say about Kenya in comparison to South Africa and then suddenly they didn't like Kenya and wanted to move to the place they didn't like in the first place. So I am not sure they are really being as truthful as they were in the beginning. Check out those beginning videos. They had a lot of negative things to say about South Africa initially and that is how they settled in Kenya. Then just like that they are back in SA. I honestly think they miss a little bit of America because South Africa is a lower level of America so let them tell the truth. SA is a lot like American lifestyle. Nothing wrong with them not feeling Kenya is now not their place. But let them be completely truthful. Haters will always be everywhere you go.

      There are ACs in Kenya especially Nairobi but it depends on your pocket and lifestyle you want to live. You can live they way you want to in Kenya, high life as long as you have money. But in Nairobi Kenya and most of other places in Kenya you don't need an AC because the weather is mostly very tropical.

      SA has a crime index of 77 crimes per 100000, and Kenya has a crime index of 60 crimes per 100000. . I lived in SA for 37 years, and only experienced 3 crimes while I was there. 2 petty crimes and 1 mugging. It really is all about where you live in SA - crime is concentrated in specific cities or areas. The sad truth as the stats testify to is that most of the violent crime is concentrated in the impoverished areas of SA or . If you steer clear of them, which is quite easy to do, then you're no more likely to experience crime than you are in any other african country.
      In addition, all this crime is a remnant of the socioeconomic disparity caused by Apartheid & perpuated by a corrupt ANC. But the people of the country are fighting back.

That couldnot be farther from the truth. Johanessburg and Cape Town have some of the nicest and loving people Ive ever met. There's no African American advantages in SA. We dont care where you come from, as long as you're here, come with good intentions. If you come here & partake in criminal activity then South Africans will let you know. People call us xenophobic but forget that most of our African brothers come here from greater poverty and desperate so they commit crimes. South Africa is basically just a 30yr old country from apartheid where black people were opressed & denied oportunities..so in this 30yr time frame, we're still in the process of building, There's still inequality economically, there's poverty still exists..crime still exists..then you get non-South Africans who add to the crime, poverty, they sell drugs (Nigerians), they kidnap our kids for their traditional practices..we as South Africans refuse to sit & watch, our government is failing to handle this problem and the people are tired! So call us xenophobic if you want, but African brother or sister, if you come here with the intention of euining this beautiful country we will deal with you. BUT!! If you come here with the intention of contributing positively to the economy & community, you will feel the love, just ask the many foreign Africans here.

    What is lacking in Kenya, which is abundant in South Africa, is well-priced suburban homes of the American style: detached houses, McMansions, semi detached etc. There are lots of good apartments in Nairobi, but not many detached or semi detached homes sitting in their own compound, in a good neighbourhood, at a good price. Many young families in Nairobi are forced to live in apartments when they really would have preferred to live in detached houses, but cannot afford it as these are only in the very expensive neighborhoods or weakly managed self-build plots in the outskirts of the city. Real estate developers in Kenya have overinvested in apartments, and not enough in detached homes. This is why young and single travellers like Nairobi as the apartment options are endless. But travellers with family will struggle. South African developers have a good mix. Kenyans can borrow a leaf from that. The couple needs to avoid getting worked up by online trolls though, just keep doing your thing without generalising comments from online trolls onto the entire population of a country.

    • @industryagain
      @industryagain ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The detached homes are mostly in the outskirts of the city, and don't offer the amenities or conveniences that many would want, either the compound is tiny: 1/8 acre, or the building is old style 1980s build. Living in the outskirts of the city turns off many because the infrastructure to enable movement isn't there yet. People live in Westlands because it is easy to get anywhere from Westlands, which you can't do from Kamakis or Donholm.

      @Ledamasunshine101 i guess Kenyans have a similar demeanor and character like South Africans? Our languages intersect a lot, so essentially we are one people. I’ve been in Kenya a couple of times for work and was taken good care of by Kenyans, personally.
      Kenyans love their own country and are working hard to develop it - and so they don’t get into destructive criminality here, plus Kenyans are generally legit in the country and contribute as professionals.
      There is not a single spot of the South Africa that has been “taken over” by Kenyans and turned into a no-go area for South Africans. Never heard of them selling drugs or filling up South African jails. They’re not here ripping up cables and steel fixtures off of everything that is not guarded by security - stuff that’s been there before we were born is suddenly a business opportunity to some specific nationalities, to the detriment of our infrastructure and constantly interrupting services.
      It is frustrating!

    So, these people were suggested to me on youtube, I did not know anything about them. I’ve watched a few videos now (not by choice). I can totally see why there is a connection between SA, and AA. You need to chose your home. I can totally see as a Kenyan that we may not identify with the AA struggle. And SA does! You do you, good luck! My advice, learn the language. I went to MIT, but to save money I lived in Chelsea MA. I loved the Spanish culture and by the time I left, I was almost fluent. It was instinctive. You can’t say you love such and such, yet don’t speak a word of the local language. My Spanish friends that I made have visited me in Kenya, and it’s the joy of humble people, poor people, yet joyful that struck them. I did not realize that myself until my Spanish friends observed that and told me. I’m upper middle class from Muthaiga, for context, yet my African money could only go so far. Chelsea MA is my second home, and I have made life long friends, and practice spanish daily. I’m their adopted daughter from Africa.

    Kenyans did not confront them because they chose SA. Remember initially they had travelled to SA for about 2 months, no Kenyan had an issue with that. Kenyans like people who speak the truth. Even if you're bantering them it has to be the truth. I remember these guys when they had been to Kenya initially they said that they could not find Glenfiddich in liquor stores. That angered a lot of Kenyans because it's false but they let it slide. So when they did a video choosing another country when they were in Kenya, people felt some kind of way. If they just moved to SA and did a video saying they had moved, no Kenyan would have had an issue. Similarly, if they had moved to SA first and then did a video saying why they chose SA, no one would have an issue too. I used to love their content but had to unsubscribe not because they moved but because of the video they did seeming to lash at Kenyans. That seemed so arrogant.

The truth is somehow Kenyans are giving other youtubers more support than them and i know that's an issue . Nice to see the Freedom Chasers on your podcast. They left Tanzania and we didn’t bitch about it. Because we know what we have and if they didn’t see it that’s not on us. They didn’t visit Arusha, Dodoma our capital city or Mwanza and Serengeti. So at the end of the day don’t get mad at them it’s the fact that they are strangers. By the way don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Some of the countries you give props to look good infrustructure wise but the people are miserable. Am that you never speak about how happy Tanzanians are and investigate why. Know the history of these countries more.
