    The 2021 CX-8 is the cheapest way into a seven seat Mazda, which makes it very appealing. The most affordable CX-8 has a 2.5-litre petrol and front wheel drive, though an AWD petrol and a beefy diesel with AWD are also available. But which CX-8 is best? Or, should you give this stretched CX-5 a miss and go for the full-fat Mazda CX-9 instead? How about alternatives like the Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento or Skoda Kodiaq?
    Should you be considering a new CX-8 for your next family car? Which is the best engine and Tiguan variant to buy? Is the Sport 2.5 petrol enough, or should you go for a torquier diesel unit?
    In today’s video, Tom takes a detailed look at the absolute base model CX-8 Sport FWD with no options to give you detailed insights about this vehicle.

    Took delivery of a new CX-8 Sport petrol in October. Considered the CX-9 (too big) and the CX-5 (too compact) before making a decision. As the entry level model it ticks all the boxes and in my opinion it would be a waste of money to purchase a higher grade. I get great economy from the petrol engine but it can feel slightly underpowered at times. Apart from that its a fantastic SUV.

    I just switched from a Kia Carnival diesel to the diesel CX8 touring to downsize and I was really impressed with the power and refinement of the CX8. The sales guy was right in that I would love it and didn’t bother test driving the petrol variant as I also liked the AWD feature. I no longer have issues parking compared to the Kia that could barely fit into the garage.

    Another great review by Chasing Cars that contains, in my opinion, sufficient detail to make informed decisions. Lately I've been researching SUVs made by several car manufacturers. Detailed information on fuel economy, engine type (power/torque) and total cost of ownership that includes insurance and servicing costs, are of great value in car review videos. I would stay clear of the CX8 petrol engine if fuel consumption is 14 L / 100 Km (City)

      DON'T buy the diesel. It is a 100000km grenade! Happily pay the extra for the higher fuel cost of petrol v's diesel. It will be cheaper (and less hassle) in the long run.

    • @MrBenHaynes

      @@pioong7443 Do a little research and you will find the problem. The engine oil became diluted with diesel fuel due to the diesel particulate filter regeneration. The camshafts became scored due to a lack of lubrication from the diluted fuel and the engine grenades just north of 100000km.
      I have first hand experience. Inherently flawed!

    We looked at one and decided that buying an Escape with a luggage trailer (3k) was going to be far more practical in terms of space on long trips with only two kids. While 700L is great, its not sufficient if you want to go camping with a pram and tents etc. The Escape is miles better to drive in town by a long way. The back end looks a bit weird from side on due to it practically being a stretched CX5, I really don't like it, front and back it looks nice. All the CX9 gets is a longer nose (which is no use to anyone) and its wider.

    • @MrBenHaynes
      @MrBenHaynes 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great idea. Going with the trailer option, I would choose a CX-5 in a high spec which nets you the 2.5L turbo petrol engine.
      All the torque of the diesel, without the DPF problems and associated oil dilution leading to premature engine failure.
      When I bought a CX-5 in 2012, there was a 2.0L petrol or 2.2L turbo diesel (guess which one most people bought).
      The 2.5L naturally aspirated petrol motor is fine around town, but the turbo makes all the difference on the highway and towing.

    Having test driven the car, for SE Asian market with bumpier roads and generally lower average speed, the softer character of the car makes the NVH pretty amazing
    CX5 could be too hard for bumpy roads and in slow speed

    What are your thoughts on the DPF filter for the desiel engine? Have been warned by Mazda sales to stay away from this engine based on this filter?

    • @MrBenHaynes
      @MrBenHaynes 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should heed the warning. Mazda diesels suffer from engine oil being diluted with diesel due to the many regenerations needed for the DPF.
      The diluted oil then doesn't provide protection and the engine will be cactus shortly after 100000km. (ask me how I know...)
      Mazda are well aware of this and should not be selling the diesel knowing it is not fit for purpose. They have damaged their reputation IMO.

    I’m confused about the size of all these SUVs. Is this as large as a Santa Fe? The boot seems to be bigger with the 3rd row up. But I don’t think it’s as wide in the cabin. How much larger is a Kluger? This market has so much choice it’s confusing.

    • @rickywinataa
      @rickywinataa 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Basically as wide as cx5 but its slightly longer than mazda 6.
      Think of it as jacked up mazda 6 estate. For someone who's 170cm, even the 3rd row is decent.
      Cx8 used to be a JDM because CX9 is too large

    I couldn't bear seeing the stupid look on this cars face everyday. Reminds me of the sideshow alley clown heads one sticks ping pong balls in... Pity as it's probably a quality car. Slab flat sides and high window / waistline looks unbalanced the more I stare at it. Sport starts at $41K but $72K for the Asaki. Nearing on DOUBLE... Where the hell does $30,000 dollars go! That buys an awful lot of bling that I can't seem to see..
