  • The fastest gaming laptops in 2022 boils down to an Intel vs AMD laptop question and AMD vs NVIDIA GPUs. But which combination is best? Intel and NVIDIA, AMD and NVIDIA or just all AMD? To answer that question we took the three fastest gaming laptops, the Alienware M17 R5, STRIX G17 and MSI GT77 Titan and ran our benchmarks.

    I own the last generation G17, and I've been happy with it. My only gripe is that super thin bezel is thin plastic that cracks way too easily near the bumpers on either side. Easy to fix with some CF and a small clamp. Never had this issue with any other laptop, and I'm always very careful of my gear. Any pressure on the lid will crack the bezel in those spots. If you're planning on getting the G17, be very careful with the lid. Never put any weight on it at all when closed.

      Same, i do like my 2021 Strix G17 till these days. Sure that it's not perfect, but then that was the only laptop that i could find and get back then when getting new 2021 gaming laptops are difficult.
      As for the bezels, mine didn't have that issue, but the keyboard lighting had a bit of issue, which i brought it to Asus service center and they just swap and keyboard and now it worked fine.

    Yeah that 5000$ price point is the real issue here. For 4k I can build a killer desktop with a 4090, 4k 144hz screen and decent peripherals thrown in and still have 1k left over for a laptop. For example there are now laptops available with an RTX 3060 for about 1k. 3060 a@1080p is perfectly reasonable for when you're on the go. Heck,

    • @one_step_sideways

      MSI is smoking something again. With how crap their laptops are, charging $5000 for a mediocre mobile 3080 Ti configuration is criminal. Not to mention that RTX 3060 laptops are way way better priced and the performance is good. Looking forward to the CES 2023 to see how badly that GT77 Titan ages.

      $4k to $5k laptop with no true upgrade path is bad value for me IMO and it is an insult when you call them DTR systems... because they are no longer really what true DTR laptops used to be ... firsts of all it means all you want is performance in a mobile form factor so all 9f these modern gaming laptops are no longer desktop replacement because they are too thin and als they get too hot or too loud lackluster of io and having everything soldered to the board.... they are good as gaming laptops but thats just it nothing more because 8 learned the hard way... and fact wise a desktop system can sustain peak load for days non stop however ... those laptops it is another story.... Still a fan of your content either way but I completely disagree on the DTR aspect because it is not even close

      ASUS, Acer, Alienware, and MSI all have laptops that are of the same class in each size, but I dont believe that's the intention here. Otherwise he would've just reviewed those. Also, FYI, I just dropped 64 Gigs of Corsair Vengeance DDR5/4800 RAM into My ASUS ROG (mind you, mine is the 15.6-inch version, not 17-inch), and it recognizes the full 64 gigabytes. Corsair is also much faster than the generic RAM that was in the system. I saw a big performance boost this AM on Cyberpunk, which is kind of my benchmark these days due to the heavy load it puts a system under.
    There has been some confusion over this, as various docs from ASUS indicate either 32 or "24" gigabytes maximum capacity, but others had found 64 works fine. Not sure if the manual has a typo or someone screwed up correcting 32 to 64, and accidentally typed 24, but either way, the ASUS ROG laptops can handle 64 gigs of RAM no problem.

      @bradhaines3142 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Collin_J power plan is suprisingly useful for tuning. best to go in and set minimum to 1%, but something to consider is max is base clock so if you go below 100% it'll kill all boost plus some extra. for instance i have my battery mode capped at 50%, and even though the boost is 3.9 the base clock is only 2.2 so that means i capped it at 1.1ghz.
      just something to consider
