    Hi Andy, it was good to see that you weren't overly enjoying the food, sometimes people are not so honest about what they have cooked, great video mate.

    I was surprised that the ingredients were Japanese okonomiyaki as it was.
    The best sauce is "Otajoy Original Sweet & Savory Sauce".

    Love, love, love your channel! Good on you mate for giving okonomiyaki a try. I lived in Japan when I was a kid and it's one of my favorites. A couple of suggestions. Stone definitely needs to be preheated longer. Should have some nice browning on each side of the pancake. The sauce should be sweet and spicy with lots of fruit and tamarind. My best substitution for proper okonomiyaki sauce is roughly equal parts apricot jam with an American style steak sauce (A1) or maybe an HP sauce. The seaweed they use is a very finely ground powder called aonori, not big chunks of the sushi seaweed. The flavor is totally different, so if you can't find the right one I would give it a miss. I like the idea of the pork floss in place of the dried bonito flakes.

  • @stephencharlesworth2231
    @stephencharlesworth2231 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great effort Andy. If you decide to have another bash at these (and you should, because they are delicious), use powdered nori instead of sheets, try to find some bonito flakes for the top and definitely get hold of some proper Otafuku okonomiyaki sauce! Also have a look at the Hiroshima style, which contain noodles. They're even better than the Osaka style you cooked here.

    I think I agree with you that the seaweed and pork fluf would not be my choice. I would probably like a bit of soya with the sauce. Great way of cooking though on that stone. Seems to do a great job once it is to temp. Probably great for pizza. Wishing you great camping experience. :)

    Nice vid. Good to see you trying new things. Btw your pronunciation was a bit off, yet close enough (source: BA in Japanese). Oh, hey, if you wanna make karaage next I'm sure you would find it more appealing than okonimiyaki. Since you're a meat connoisseur. (lol, me too) Looking forward to your next video brother. Edit: We need to find you some collapsible, camping chopsticks (ohashi).

    Proper Okonomiyaki sauce is a must and totally different taste to what you made here but fair play…. You tried,.. yam is more for texture rather than taste so I’d be surprised if you could taste it….. but Japanese mayonnaise much nicer than uk….. it’s like mayo and salad cream together and their squeezy bottles are much softer….. plus the bonito flakes aren’t as gross as they sound

    One of the many dishes I avoid here lol. I tell my co-workers, not everything needs mayo, seaweed, dried fish or an egg on it. Pretty sure they don't believe me hahaha. Mos Burger though is one i can tolerate. Other than that the majority of the food here is delicious...except natto. That's not happening.

    'An interesting combination of ingredients' is only a small step down from 'it's an acquired taste' lol, I can't lie, it did look quite tasty and I would have a go, but the inclusion of your squirty Belgian filthy nonsense was not good my friend, and you should be ashamed of yourself! Brilliant video as ever, take care of yourself and all the best. Nick

    Hey Andy, why not do some medieval English recipes? Let's face it, our ancestors cooked over open fires, and there are a lot of really fab recipes you could try out. English cuisine gets rubbished by those not in the know, but there's some really awesome dishes in the history books that could be made.

The tomato & mayo is sort of like thousand island dressing which goes with the prawn.
