- We went exploring to find what is left of the Nob Hill Mansions that were destroyed in the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 in California. I love that cathedral. The carved gold doors there are amazing! The Fairmount and Hopkins hotels look great. It was interesting to hear about the history of the mansions and the earthquake and the fire. And I love seeing the iconic cable cars going down the road. Thanks for sharing this with us!

San Francisco has suffered so much through its history, but it always perseveres. You showed us some amazing architecture. The ruins were something to see and loved the before and after comparisons. We have never been to San Francisco, but one day we will.
We have spent a lot of time in San Francisco. I am from California. And I raised my kids just outside the city. So we spent a lot of time there still. Because we still have family there
This is perfect timing as we will be heading to San Francisco shortly!

Love those Cable Trams. Gorgeous Cathedral. How sad that those Mansions were burnt down. Only one survived. Love SanFrancisco. We have been there twice Denise and enjoyed our stay. Beautiful bronze door on Grace Cathedral. Thats right Denise, thats where the posts of the fences where lodged into the stone. Melbourne had operating Cable Cars until the last was removed in 1940 and replaced with Electric Trams. Prime realestate, not even I could afford to live on Nob Hill. A shame that last hotel went Bankrupt. Hopefully someone has a vision to resurrect the Huntington Hotel again. Awesome Vlog Miss Martini, thank you for taking us along. Wow looks like an amazing place and beautiful cathedral ❤ the hotel looks so big and dramatic.. shame the earthquake destroyed so much. Looked like an amazing building. The area looks so dramatic with all those buildings. Beautiful fountain. Loved the fountain of the turtles. Grace cathedral looks amazing with its stained glass. Beautiful views of the city below from the hill.

I appreciate you taking the time and sharing Nob Hill's history. Well done! It was fascinating to hear how the impetus of the cable cars started, that is really simple, the horses struggled to get up the hill 😆I was waiting, however, to see you guys at the bar at the Mark Hopkins! We have been there once, just for cocktails. I don't believe reservations are needed to sit at the bar. We just stayed at the Luma Hotel, near Oracle Park, and they too have a rooftop indoor/outdoor bar that we could not get reservations for, even though we were staying there!? Ultimately, they made room for us (maybe because we were staying there). I am learning that these stays with these popular rooftop locations are for anyone, not just guests.

Love San Francisco ! The cathedral is beautiful for sure! I haven't been on the trolley since I was a kid. I would like to take a tour of the cathedral but I don't know where to park. you guys were fortunate to stay at the nearby fairmont. The doors are beautiful!

Thanks for the walking tour. Fun fact: The Fairmont was supposed to open just 3 hours after the quake. Since City Hall was unsafe, the army used the hotel. A soldier lit a fire for coffee and burned the place down because of a damaged chimney .Opps.
I didn't know the army used it.
Wow that's really interesting. I remember reading in school about the San Francisco earthquake and Fire. The mansion especially the one that was built of brick one of the only surviving places. It is very unfortunate that historical buildings collapse due to natural disasters such as earthquakes. However, even if another hotel or building is built after that, I think we should not forget the building that was there before. The door of the church is very delicately carved and beautifully designed. Thank you for great tour to explore the ruins 🤩👍

Kind of odd. You don't really think about a mansion being made of wood, but I guess it was pretty common over 100 years ago. That's a great tour. I've never been to San Francisco, but there is a lot of history there.

The Crocker mansion was where the cathedral is now. The Mark Hopkins mansion was where the Mark Hopkins Hotel is now. The Huntington mansion was where Huntington Park is now. The Tobin mansion was where the Huntington Hotel is now. The Towne mansion was where the Masonic building is now. The Stanford mansion was where the Stanford Court Hotel is now. And the Flood mansion was where the Pacific Union Club is now.

You are totally in my neck of the woods. Grew up on top of the hill Daly City. Was created near fisherman’s wharf. You should have hit us up for free lodging ;-). Love seeing it through different eyes.
We were there to see our oldest for the weekend. We were going to come to Petaluma. But due to flooding we couldn't get there. We will be back.
