Lovely old cars, I still have a few of those early Matchbox from my childhood somewhere on storage. I remember the chap who used to run my local model railway store, he would always cringe when he saw how I opened the boxes with my fingers to look at the locomotives inside. He told me that the best way to open boxes so as not to damage them was to slip a letter opener, or knife (use the blunt edge) under the tab at one end of the box, then slide it up snug against the flap that's tucked into the box and gently pry the tab up that way. Saves tearing the tab or creasing the box and preserves the box in better condition for much longer. Apologies if I'm "teaching Grandma to suck eggs" here.

Japanese tin toys---in great shape!! Some may be Linemar, Japanese, I think as well.. Great collection, in such great shape!!!
My friend, protect the loose ones, they look like they are in mint condition! The Matchbox cars appear mint, so do the boxes! I really enjoyed your presentation, Enjoy your treasure!! Thanks for sharing!!! The matchbox cars had the silver colored wheels , until about 1963, then changed to black. You have many very fine models there!!!

I have many of the Matchbox buses including the Trolleybus you show here. Trolleybuses were withdrawn in London in 1962 and replaced by the Routemaster, one of London's most loved and iconic buses, also made in two versions by Matchbox.

    Plastic ones as well
that log truck & Hertz is a Barclay Some of the others are too
that mini car goes onto a Barclay car carrier
some are I think are Midgetoys too
AHM did HO scale is what those cars are
Husky was sold at Woolworth's & Corgi bought them out to make their Corgi Junior line
them Tootsietoys with the plastic wheels were made for HO scale layouts back in the 1960s
the plastic wheels were commonly broken cause they were made a 1 piece!
the Peardrax is actually a trolleybus

The ones in the little plastic boxes were made in Japan by AHI.
I love all those mint Barclays. I have a number of them but most I find are missing some paint!
The little plastic ford Falcon was made by Processed Plastic and either came on a Car Carrier truck or a plastic train that had a car carrying car. They did the Falcon, Corvair, Valiant, Tempest, and a Nash Metropolitan.

Excellent and informative video. Thanks for sharing. Incidentally just of interest, in 1956 the collection was actually 1 to 18 and in 1959 the collection was 1 to 72. I have scans of most of the original catalogues. 18:50 shows the Ford Station wagon, which was the first Matchbox Car that I ever had way back in 1963. Your collection of 1964 models is impressive. Incidentally, your model 47 Ice Cream Van was actually the 1967 livery, prior to that it was blue.

These mostly look restored. It's nice that they're in such good shape now, but unfortunate in a way, they were not played with, at least not much.Sitting on a shelf in the box is NOT what toys are for.
Is there a definitive time when Matchbox started doing the doors and sometimes hoods that opened? Those were the ones I liked. It saddened me to see them try to become Hot Wheels. When did they get bought up by Mattel? At that point, Matchbox pretty much ceased being real matchbox cars, and were basically just hot wheels with a different brand on them. Of course most of the wild stuff was saved for the hot wheels brand. I like details, I really never got into hot wheels. Some were neat, but just not generally my thing.
