Animating - not rigging - that's what I really enjoy! It's really frustrating I have to deal with all that layers mess with Duik. So maybe I should try character animation again, now with Limber.. thanks for the video!
Bought limber a few years ago, but didn't understand how to replace the default graphics with my own, so I used Duik. But now years later with more knowledge and after this video I'll give it a try.
Great smack down, Limber is truly built to save time, but Duik is free, I think that counts. I'll love to see you do a smack down between Limber and Deekay tool, or Limber and Hot Dog, that will be great.
used DUIK for many years for a brand which uses cartoons for their energy drink… yes complicated, but if you‘re do it daily for years… will look at limber for sure once they support psd which is essential for this type of cartoons
Thanks for such great videos. I used DUIK a couple of years ago and I thought the results were great, but yes, it was a pain to rig. When I did that I rigged the body as well as the face. Can Limber be used to rig facial expressions? If not, I was looking at Joystick. Can that be used in tandem with Limber?
Great video as always! I love using Limber, it's so much easier. I wonder though if there is a way to use it with Photoshop artwork, for example when you have lots of textures and can't easily reproduce this in Illustrator and convert to shapes?
Great video and reminder for me to dig back into Limber! I use Rubberhose a lot too, that's also great, Right tool for the right job! For that reason, definitely worth experimenting with and understanding the advantages and disadvantages of each plug-in. Thanks!
In my experience the most frustrating thing about DUIK were theese snapping joints. I was never able to get it right, especially when working in postproduction studio, where everything must have been perfect. On the other hand DUIK has this misterious "automations" pannel, that i never used, but some people said that it's helpful in motion design.
Here is my big question for Limber. Can you use artwork from Illustrator as the actual elements you are animating? I And I don't mean converting them to shape layers or using them as a template to re-create in AE. I mean animate the actual Illustrator layers. Because from everything I see, it doesn't seem like that is possible, but maybe I'm missing something.
@@TheKeyframeAcademy Some of my artwork doesn't seem to convert to shape layers perfectly and leads to time spent doing cleanup work. I also like being able to make tweaks in Illustrator and have it update in AE. I am going to give it a try though. The workspace seems nice and I'll be curious to see if I can make it work by converting my artwork to shape layers.

Interesting, while I agree Duik doesnt have the options of your last segment "dynamic animation", I think most of the other issues here are just bad designed characters, you are not using rounded shapes to connect the parts of the body.
...but...I am using rounded shapes on my characters.... You have to....I am not really sure which issue I mentioned in the video that specifically solves. Can you elaborate?
So one can't use art layers from Illustrator or Photoshop... just Limber's selection of auto-generated shapes? That's a deal breaker what? // My bad. It's there. Can it do 'envelope deformers' on shapes (ie. change the contours on the fly... bulging muscles, breathing etc.)?
any idea how to make my hand connectes to my wrist in limber, following the angle of my arm? i have to apply a rotation on the hand to follow my arm...
I use Duik only to rig psd layers from my collage animations since Limber can’t do that, that’s how I remember it at least… I wish it could as it would be much easier!

The only video I have seen thus far is an infuriating NO NARRATION video on TH-cam which is dodgy and explained nothing. I have After Effects 2023 included in my Creative Cloud Subscription. I still DO NOT know how to install LIMBER. I will use the link you provided to purchase it once I learn how to install it.
I don't personally think the auto walk cycle looks very good, and it is very recognizable whenever someone is using it. Plus, if you really want to, you can use DUIKS auto walk cycle with Limber. There really isn't anything proprietary about DUIK rigs that make them compatible with the auto walk cycle. So in the end, Limber still comes out on top for me.

DO IT (Code KEYFRAMEACADEMY for 10% off. ) 🤐
does limber allow psd layers (character design outside AE) to be rigged?
you can kind of do it, but its not really built for that...at the moment. So I'd suggest something like DUIK or Bao Bones (pricey though)

How can I get the arm to stay behind the torso and the forearm to be in front of the torso using limber?
duplicate the arm layer and then you can turn on and off the visibilty of the upper and lower limb groups in the shape layer.
Even if Limber is not very expensive, Duik is completely free.
Ture. But you pay for DUIK by taking twice as long to complete your rig. Time is money.
