    I have a question. It is regarding the face width. What if, due to constraints, the face width is not equal to 1/3 rd of the cone length? For example, 1/3 of cone length is 0.89' but it is only possible to have 0.56' due to other gears. Another example is that 1/3 rd of cone distance is 0.35' whereas the required face width is 0.5'. Please help me, I just want to learn and am curious. I want to know if having these face widths are possible maybe using this equipment or wire EDM.

      Electro erosión por hilo no creo ya que puedes dar ángulos con el hilo pero no superficies cóncava un engrane cónico si pero uno helicoidal como ese no creo

    I usually model gears in CAD, bevel gears alone have been very challenging to model I've been trying to model spiral bevel gears and I'm almost there. I want to 3D print my own spiral bevel gears before I graduate.

    I would imagine this machine is not limited to just gear cutting?

    That steel gear blank looked just like aluminum, and cut like butter. I'm shocked there's no flood coolant. Was this video all shown in real time?

    • @alexhdz6694

      @@ralphwaters8905 today's cutters with carbide inserts can cut even hardened steel without coolant. Coolant improves cutting performance and tool life though

    Anyone know of a company who can come in and fix the old Gleason straight bevel machines.. A104-24. Gleason no longer offers this service. We are in PA. and are desperate

    hello which is the hardness of the material with which the piece of video was made?
    Which leaves roughness on the flank of the teeth?

    How much time it takes for cutting one crown I think 15 minute😒

    • @GleasonCorporation
      @GleasonCorporation  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gear cutting times depend on actual size of gear as well as type of cutting operation.
      Soft cutting as semi-finishing operation starts at 15 minutes for a 350 mm gear diameter, a 1000 mm gear OD requires approximately 90 minutes. Those are very fast cycle times compared to end mill processes where those parts require between 2-8 hours of cycle time.

  • @Mirandorl
    @Mirandorl 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would it be possible to adapt this process to create the Airbus EC225 bevel gears and elminate the need for the weld? That is, design the CNC setup so that it does not clash with the extended portion of the bevel gear support? That way you could create the part as one piece and eliminate the vulnerable weld which has led to incidents on that helicopter.

    It looks like there is a lot of stress risers in the root of the tooth

    • @GleasonCorporation
      @GleasonCorporation  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +dave f
      There are no stress risers at all, because the visual steps are
      not the final geometry - in other words the part is not finished at the stage shown.

    • @sillybuster

      No coolant?

    • @TheWireEDM
      @TheWireEDM 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Carbide cutter doesn't necessarily need coolant and some grades do not tolerate coolant at all. And as this was a machining demo, running with coolant would make the whole demo look just like a waterfall inside a machine with nothing to see.

    • @sillybuster
      @sillybuster 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Metal grades? I've never come across any metals or carbide tooling negatively affected by coolant quite the opposite. For demo's sake I suppose but that was a lot of cutting = heat = tip wear.

    • @TheWireEDM
      @TheWireEDM 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I then presume you do not do a lot of machining, as many inserts (like Pokolms HSC 05 types) will break in under 10 seconds if you give it any coolant other than air.
      No, not metal grades, carbide grades.
