2017 VW Polo GTI Review: The most value for money "hot hatch" in India | AutoCulture

  • The VW Polo GT TSI is one of India's favourite performance cars because of its quick shifting DSG transmission, peppy turbocharged 1.2 TSI engine and amazing handling. But the GT TSI doesn't quite qualify as an all out, balls to the wall hot hatch. But it has a very rare sibling for almost double the price when new in India, the VW Polo GTI. Cars in the VW family which wear the GTI badge signify that they mean business and the Polo GTI is nothing different. The Polo GTI sports the super modifiable, 1.8 TSI engine mated to a 7-Speed DSG transmission. The Polo GTI is no slouch and watch the whole video to find out why it is an amazing hot hatch and why it is absurdly expensive in India!

    Hello everyone! We understand that this video isn't upto our current standards of cinematography and it is with good reason. The video has been filmed in Kerala, where only 2 crew members are currently stationed due to the pandemic. They have done their utter best to work with what equipment they have and have created this piece of film. We hope you understand!

      @@hrisikeshbhattacharya5467 nope we are not poor.. we are in WRONG COUNTRY.. india has lot of taxes thats why these things cost a lot..
      I am an indian who lives in dubai.. after moving here i bought S CLASS & LX 570
      All are used
      S class only cost 20lakh & lx 570 only cost me 25 lakh ....
      Here cars are very cheap & most of arabs change cars every year so its a great deal...

      JÏŤHÎÑ ŘÃJ Ķ.P but the government knows that cars are a luxury for most Indians. Only 10% of Indians have any kind of vehicle. Even fewer have cars. So the government putting high taxes on cars are only affecting top 5-10% of Indians who can afford to think about buying a car. In the USA, 70-80% of people have cars, if they rise taxes there, too many people are affected unlike India.

      Bhaskar N yes, most of these commodities that have inflated price tags are non essential Luxury goods that only middle class Indians can afford. And only 10-20% of the Indian population are in middle class. Only 10% of Indians own bikes or cars. That’s why in India sub 4 meter cars have much lower taxes since 99% of the cars sold here are sub 4 meter cars

      Hey Hrithik, we understand your disappointment but we actually have a funny story behind it. During filming, 2 policemen intervened the shoot out of curiosity and tried to explain to our crew that filming isn't allowed during the pandemic. Since we wanted to keep a good rep with the police, we didn't argue and as a gesture of appreciation, both the policeman subscribed to our channel but unfortunately we had to immediately leave the shoot where it was before we could actually hoon the car properly!

    Reviewing a car that’s not available to buy. That’s a tease bro. I wanted to buy a German under 30L and there’s no Octavia 1.8 tsi now. So looking fwd to buy Skoda Karoq 1.5 TSI 😅
    I hope that’s a nice car

    • @TheDriversHub
      @TheDriversHub  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Parth! Personally we would suggest you to look at the VW T-Roc instead of the Karoq. It's basically the same car and has better looks and interior in our opinion!

    • @parthoomphy7214
      @parthoomphy7214 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Drivers Hub I 1st test drove TRoc only as it also has the same 1.5 TSI but it’s interiors are crap to say the least. I have Ameo 1.5 TDI DSG as well and the steering, light switches, DSG gear lever everything is exactly ditto on the Troc and everywhere there is hard plastic.
      Interior isn’t nice at all. Plus it lack certain mainstream features for a 24L Rs car like electric driver seat adjust, cruise ctrl (which even my Ameo has), etc.
      It’s also 30kg heavier than Karoq despite being small so it doesn’t feels as eager and agile to drive. Same with the Tiguan (500kg heavier than karoq although it has 40 ps more & 4x4: I also test drove it). Plus VW is doing pathetic part sharing from it’s cheaper cars (Tiguan doesn’t even have led fog lights at that price point, it has same Ameo fog lights) and a person like me who has owned Germans before can tell the cost cutting in interior quality. Not acceptable in a 38L Rs car.
      That’s why I was planning to switch to ŠKODA (otherwise I was planning to go again for VW only).
      Karoq interior is same quality as Kodiaq and superb (which is a good thing I guess).
      You can drive Tiguan or Troc and I guess you will know what I’m trying to say.
      I have test driven almost 10 cars in past 3 days from creta/seltos all the way to Tiguan and Endeavour before making the purchase as you don’t invest this much money everyday.
      That’s why I’m so confused now!
      I want a car that is fun to drive, with nice interior quality, features & also space.
      PS: I only want a SUV (not 4x4 necessarily) due to bad experience with sedan’s ground clearance given our Indian Roads. Otherwise would have bought a superb by now blindly

    • @parthoomphy7214
      @parthoomphy7214 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HH-bq3ge hahah you kidding. It's 0-100 timing is pathetic due to heavy weight and slow gearbox (no dual clutch) and features like paddle shifts are also missing. Also interior quality and luxurious feel isn't there. It's only good if u really need 4x4 but I don't go offroading.
      My neighbour has compass so I know this, driven it a lot. But it's not comparable to Germans in luxury, featuresband performance. Otherwise it's a decent car standalone.
      If I want a car for offroad, I'll definetly chose ladder on frame cars like endeavour or fortuner than compass by extending my budget a bit. So compass is really not even a consideration for me
