    I retired from UPS last year with 35 years of service. UPS is a hard company to work for, very challenging. I worked as a feeder driver for the last 25 years (18 wheeler). I was making about $133,000 yearly. UPS/Teamsters also has a pension that was not mentioned. Pension is about $4800 a month with $2233 SSA at age 62. Not bad!

    I work for amazon for a little over a year now. Im at 16.50. Im constantly in the top 10 drivers (out of 55 I believe we have now) to arrive back from the route. My daily route consists of 150-200 stops (not counting any rescues), 230-360 packages (depends on the season). I hit apartments, condos, houses, businesses and the occasional long driveway mansions (Im based in Tampa). Although my daily schedule is 10hrs, Im usually done in 6-7hrs, but I still get paid for the full 10 as long as my FICO score is above 800 for the week and I havnt committed any mayor infractions such as speeding, stops signs or not using seatbelts for example. I dont really take breaks, but when I do is because my body is telling to do so and it usually lasts 15min. So to put all in perspective for my last pay period I WORKED 54hrs (we get paid bi-weekly), I still got paid 80. The way I see it, I got paid "$24" an hour when you do the math. I dont run, but I pace myself and I also look at my route for the day before I head out and I write down when/where I would need to "jump" a stop that I can get to back later so my route can be more efficient. Amazon has a habit of making routes that make no sense sometimes (let me know if that happens to the rest of you guys). Why go through the same street or head back to an area you were a couple of hours ago? We say Amazon does it on purpose just so that you can full fill the 10hrs of the day, they say they dont, but they still havnt proved me wrong, so Im sticking to my argument. Its not the highest paying job Ive had (i used to make 28 as far back as when the pandemic started), but this gig offers me something that my last job or any of the others I had before offered: FLEXIBILITY. I work my 4 days, Im off 3. I sometimes would volunteer to cover for someone if they request it, otherwise Im just working my 4. Im at the point where MY time is more important than money. I still have stuff to do at home, spend more time with family and friends, go out and do whatever. Its perfect for those who have a side hustle (like in my case) or go to school. Good video, keep up the good work

    The thing about UPS is that you have to start out working at the warehouse, and then you work your way up with seniority into becoming a driver. Sometimes it's faster if people want to stay at the warehouse instead of delivery on the street. I imagine that's a lot of people when they get comfortable.

    • @nf3heroiclibrary756
      @nf3heroiclibrary756 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cloroxbleach6039to my understanding having talked to people on the inside, you get a dollar raise every year even if you hit your cap.
      After the strike they went on and won through teamsters drivers not make
      24$ first year
      25$ second year
      30.75$ third year
      I shit you not, 49$ 4th year. Lol
      A lot of dudes work overtime and bring home 145k a year at 50 hours a week due to time and a half and a few hours double pay after 8 hours over. In addition to this you get almost entirely paid for benefits at a value of near 60k (way overlooked).
      The hard part is there is usually a couple year wait and you very likely have to work inside first and they rarely if ever hire full time so if you want the driving job you have to have 2 jobs for a few years before you even get the opportunity to drive.
      Great pay but hard to get into depending on your family situation

  • @ledbus36
    @ledbus36 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    FYI; UPS drivers are Union and work under contract. there is no pay ceiling. every 4-6 yrs a new bargaining agreement needs to be worked out and voted on by the members. on average it usually works out to be around .80-.90 cents a year for the life of the contract. im a 27 yr driver from the New England area. i make 110-120 thousand a year working 10 hr days M-F and i have 7 weeks' vacation a year. plus health benefits and a full pension at 30 yrs.
    BUT... i earn every penny of it..., by far, UPS is the most demanding and strictest of all the delivery companies. every second of my day, when not on breaks (1hr lunch unpaid and two 10 min paid breaks) is spent busting my ass at a brisk pace.
    so, who gets paid the most? well as usual, like with everything, you get what you pay for....

    Amazon drivers get the worst pay , that's what I gathered from talking to other drivers. Amazon doesn't increase pay with experience. They pay everyone the same , it sucks when some drivers are slow and you always have to go rescue them.

      That is true. Most leave anyways to better things. Amazon is a dead end job. Yes it above minimum wage but not worth doing it time in and time out for the same pay. It’s the same for UPS here in KS. Start 21 next year 23 next 24 next 28.75 next max pay. Which by 2023 when our contract is up will be right around 42. ATM max is 39 something but with a $1 wage increase this year and a $1.10 next year will put us around 42. The free health insurance is the best tho. In 2021 I had 78k in health care costs and only paid $400 out of pocket. $100 deductible and only $1000 out of pocket max. Every driver I know that has hit max makes 6 figures. We get so much OT. As someone who works for USPS, I am here to say that it is a trash company to work. The way they treat employees is just horrible. The pay is much lower when compared to UPS. The temp mail carriers (CCAs) are abused and treated like slaves. It takes 2-3 years to become a regular and be eligible for full benefits / pension. The years spent as a CCA does not count towards our service and pensions, basically we worked 60-70 hours a week for years to then be told this time doesn't count towards retirement. Being a regular isn't much better. It takes almost 13 years to get to top pay. When including time being a CCA, literally it is about 15-16 years till one hits top pay. How is this acceptable? They cannot keep enough CCA's on the job, and they wonder why? What is worse that there are two pay tiers , one for old timers and one for those hired after 2013. Those hired after 2013 have to pay 3x as much towards their pension as the old timers to get same benefits. I can go on and on. This is a brutal job if you end up in the wrong area or the ghetto. Majority of the routes are extremely long and management constantly harasses carriers to make it back on time.

      Couldn't agree more. Plus the brain dead management keeps taking on packages from both Amazon and UPS. No wonder UPS pays more when they don't have to work their drivers on Sundays anymore as the USPS does their job. The other factor the guy in the video misses is with the other package companies have to do are packages. Nothing like hauling a ton of redplums on top of UPS packages.

    I have experience with UPS as a seasonal employee and Amazon (currently). I worked the 2021 peak season at UPS as a PVD (personal vehicle driver) and it was one of the best jobs even as a temp person! $22/hr base pay with OT 1.5 after 8 hrs/day even as a seasonal employee plus mileage pay too! Currently I’m at Amazon and it’s definitely less at $17.50/hr. Probably the one and ONLY perk to deliver for Amazon is the 4 day/ 10hr per day schedule! For that is also why I’ve been here for over 6 months still… Honestly, other carriers should try to copy the 4 day workweek, that extra day off is amazing… 😊 p.s.: I also applied at FedEx ground, did my interview and driving skills test at the warehouse but walked away when they said they start at 7:30am 5-6 days per week…😮😅🤔

    I'm a regular rural carrier with the usps. Usps is split into 2 crafts (rural and city carriers) and they are very different. City carriers start at around 18 like you said, but rural it's 19. This is nationwide as there's no cost of living adjustments for high cost areas. City carriers always make an hourly wage and get tons of OT so it's possible to make 6 figures once you're maxed out which takes 12 years. Regular Rural carriers make a salary based on the size of their route. If you're route is expected to take 9 hours per day, you make a salary equivalent to 45 hours per week with ot built in. However if you're good you'll often only actually work 35 hours except during Xmas. It works out in drivers favor by a mile overall though. I absolutely love my job but ups is the best choice by far financially. They have better unions. Federal employees can go to prison for striking and without that leverage we'll never get the pay we deserve.

Anyways I started at $22.74 per hour but as of right now I believe that the starting pay is $28 per hour. Now that I'm on my third year I'm at $31 and top pay is at around $36 per hour we will see what the next contract will bring, Also there's a lot of overtime for those who want to work it you are not forced into working it you can actually say NO! We receive 2 pay raises per year which also includes COLA ( cost- of -living -adjustment)and yes it's a cushy & comfy government job no doubt especially a TTO driver, letter carrier is a whole different ballgame and they work extremely hard and long hours but they do make closer to 100k per year because of the overtime. I hope this helps anyone who may be interested in working here. I've been a rural carrier for USPS for 23 years. At least for the rural side of the company your pay is mainly based off the size of your route and many factors such as mail/parcel volume, number of stops, seniority, mileage, vehicle government or personally owned, ect determine your pay. My route is a 47k...meaning 47hrs paid every week plus K meaning one day off per 6 day week. If you end up working your K day its an additional day of pay at 150% of route evaluation or you can choose an additional day of annual leave for future use. I always choose the money. Based off our lastest COLA raise my routes base salary is over $87,000. Now add an almost guaranteed 25-40 K days worked per year because of shortage of subs and six figures is definitely achievable. Other than Christmas time I'm still typically home by 2-3 every day. Great benefits!! Can't complain really🤷‍♂️

Another thing to consider is what is delivered and where it has to be delivered; for example USPS is the only delivery service allowed to use a mailbox, but delivers checks, letters and anything else that is postage paid with anything not fitting in the box going to the front door, all other delivery services must go to the front porch.

    I’ve been a FXG driver for 2 years, I left for FXE and after 2 months i returned back to Ground. FXE is a great company it definitely has a corporate feel everything is about accountability and you need codes for everything you do you definitely feel like someone is over your shoulder. You’re always in constant contact with dispatch before your last stop you need to let dispatch know you’re heading to your last stop and before you return to the station you have to be cleared by dispatch. They do this just in case someone needs help either with pick ups or deliveries. Another thing is you have time commitments 10:30am-12:00pm deliveries. This means you have to deliver these packages before if not management will have some questions. Of course this is not always the case, sometimes you’ll have late freight and those commitments can’t be fulfilled. When you have late freight dispatch will let you know someone will be meeting you so you can deliver the late packages. And of course you definitely get benefits. My Ground contractor offers benefits too. I like Ground because you load your van and once everything is done you take off. Oh, another thing at Express you scan and load your packages. I’m currently getting paid $23 at Ground and I was getting paid $19.81 at Express.

The contractor I was with at the time i think it was like $15 a hr which is trash I do think they had benefits like health insurance etc though. Next USPS I started at like $17 something but after a few months was at $18 Something still trash, however USPS AlWAYS have OT so it averages out to more but still the base pay for what you have to do at the Post Office should be more. Fedex Ground the contractor was paying $20 and there was always at least 5-10hrs of OT from my experience there but the benefits wasnt so good and insurance was very expensive. Fedex Express im at $21 Something but the benefits are really good however at my station its kinda hard to get OT so it still averages out to probally just a little bit more than the others if you wasnt doing alot of OT. Now out of the 4 ive listed USPS from my experience you probably can make the most because your always working with no work life balance but at the same time have pretty decent checks so idk

They will exploit you as a temporary-employer for a couple years which means all the work you'll do does not count towards retirement or pay step-increases. Even after working for 5-6 years, you'll still be at the bottom of the payscale and seniority because the years you work as a temp never counted. Basically still making $20 an hour after 5-6 years. One more thing I would have to switch from not being a package handler anymore to receive a pension but I would have to be with the company for twenty years.😃😥 I have to say their benefits are pretty good what I notice is they have pretty cheap benefits compared to other companies.🤑

    For USPS there’s 2 delivery crafts
    City carriers: 20$ an hour plus+ they get benefits and overtime after 10 hours per day and double time after 12 hours
    Rural carriers start out hourly and start around 20$ once you get your own route you convert to salary. After OT I know of people making over 100k$ per craft.

    Been at UPS a little over 2 years and should be going to Driving school soon before PEAK season thank god! There is no way to start out as a driver at UPS fyi. You have to put in your time as a package handler. I wish I would have started at 18! I definitely can’t wait for the giant pay increase and I don’t know of any other company that has the benefits UPS does📦📦📦

    To get your yearly salary at 40hrs a week just multiply your hourly wage by 2,080. There are 2,080 hours in a "work year". Nice video!
