Hey bro, I got a question for you that I can't seem to find the answer for. So I already have an a3 block and z3 head and I'm gonna put the head on. First thing I notice is that the water outlet ports are different on the z3 head, that means I can't use my stock water outlet nor intake manifold from the ep3, the ep3 outlet also has the upper radiator hose attached to it. How do we fix this issue and what parts are needed?? I know that people have done this swap and shown it on youtube, but they don't answer. Thanks.
Just ran across your post from 2018. I have a Volvo p 1800 1970 model would like to put in 20K A3 because of fuel economy and not interested and how fast it can do the quarter mile or for that matter going over a hundred miles an hour. Done that, doesn't mean anything to me anymore. THIS means I have to turn the engine 90° want to have a manual transmission to hook up to the rear of the car so any information you can give me how to achieve this would be greatly appreciated. Does putting on a different exhaust head help in any way for the conversion? Any idea what would be a good trans to put behind it?. Thank you for your time. Moses

I want to change my pistons out on my K20a3 just so I can have a refreshed engine. I'm keeping my RSX for many years so I don't mind doing this. The only thing about this I may go with Type S pistons since they are a direct replacement for my pistons. I don't rev over redline so I don't need to beef up the bottom end.

@@TheDJFoxTrot stock ep3 fuel cant handle much, you'll definitely need 1000cc injectors and a 255 fuel pump. With that you can push the stock reternless to around 15-16lbs of boost until u loose too much fuel pressure. A bigger hot side will create less tq down low will help your rods out a bit.

Hey, aside from the pins what else is needed to put the type s 02-04 camshafts, will it make my valve train float (valve float) cuz of the longer duration? I have Ktuner and Full bolt ons atm
The a3 will benefit from head work but at that point its cheaper to just get a k24 and slap it on. But if you wanted to break k20a3 records then head work is the key.

The whole 3 valves thing,would make sense to a dummy like me 🤔 but remove that meat around the intake valve should make a HUGE impact on airflow alone,given what I've seen done in similar scenarios as a SBC guy on the old school "smog" heads.Just talking out my ass,but I'd imagine you could use a A2 etc head gasket to die mark the extra meat and just slowly dremel it out and blend it to bowl? That way air can make it around that valve better on intake side.

There might be a way to run kpro. But I'm not familiar with the auto ecu. Maybe running a duel ecu setup is possible. Also Have u thought about switching to manual?
Well it's not a simple as that. Injectors sizing is dependent on your individual build. Setups that require more fuel needs bigger injectors and pumps to support the increase of fuel demands

Hey bro I have a set of type s cams and rockers laying around that I wanna swap onto my base. I don’t wanna swap the head because I don’t wanna lose the compression bump the a3 head has. Would I have to swap the pins for intake and exhaust which means I would have somewhat of a vtec/vtec killer on the intake and exhaust?
In theory as long as the exhaust rocker shaft sees oil pressure normally the vtec should function the same as the intake right? That way idle is smoother than vtec killer and the power and torque down low is a bit better
Yes is 100% necessary because a3 heads do not have lost motion springs 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 yeah half your valves with be running full time on vtec, then when vtec hits all valves with have vtec 💪
U can can definitely make 201whp on a k20a3 with off the offshelf parts. quality boltons with 05-06 type s cams with type s rockers will produce that power.
Or drop in a k24 and make real power... this video is to help k20a3 users... obviously other things are better not arguing that. I currently have a k24 turbo awd setup.

I put the A3 into my ek 1997 Civic. Those A3 motors will save you a lot of money if all your looking for is a new engine and a little more power.

You can run a non modified rbc intake manifold.

For vtec killer you run 8 exhaust rockers. 4 for thr exhaust side, 4 for the intake side.

In general kseries can clock upwards of 500,000 miles if taken care of properly and used like a normal car just like any other engine.

Yeah definitely a decent engine especially if a k24 is not an option for people.
K24a2 are cheap but unless you trying to turbo or make close to 300whp NA. K20A3 is more than enough

Rbc is a great budget manifold and will net you great gains! Skunk2 is great but will benefit more if u have stage 1 cams. But both a great options.

Yes it'll all work, reuse your k20 sensors. And yes you can put a Manual flywheel on it's just dont forget to put in the pilot bearing.

K20a3 head could never make 200 wheel horsepower too low of compression lol. Would be very lucky to make 180whp na.
