    You should consider applying to Occidental College! its a great liberal arts college in Los Angeles, with excellent programs, professors, and alumni. I transferred here myself and I am incredibly happy that I did. Occidental is one of the top liberal arts colleges in the nation, with some of the most interesting and inspiring students and professors. Also, Oxy is incredibly generous with their financial aid packages and they love transfer students. I think you would fit in well here and enjoy your last two years of college!

      Everett Wise I’m demons in my transfer application for Oxy, glad to hear you like it. Is it hard making friends as a transfer?

    • @flutsfluts
      @flutsfluts 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jessica Murphy Glad to hear you are applying! To answer your question, I would say yes and no. It's hard because as a transfer you miss out on the first year experience (if you're coming in as a sophomore). When you're a first year nobody knows anyone and everyone is just trying to make friends. So when you transfer in as a sophomore there are some established friend groups and people have already been seeing each other around campus for over a year. But Oxy is a great community and if you put yourself out there by talking to people, smiling at people, and just being a friendly person it won't be hard to make friends. Also, classes here are small (between 10-30 students) so you'll get to know the people you have classes with pretty well.
      Just don't be afraid to talk to people, everyone here is really nice. And remember that making genuine friends takes time, and although you may feel alone at times true friends will come.

    you might want to consider doing a semester or two at community college. it's so much cheaper and you can finish all of your gen eds there and only have to pay for a year and a half to two years of college. also getting good grades in community college is much easier and it helps your application a lot more.
    i failed out my first semester and i knew no schools would accept me with my gpa so i did a semester at my local community college and got As and got accepted into a good school for the following year. you also have time to work and save money and think about what your goals are for university.

    If your study abroad credits are on your loyola transcript, you do not need to list the institution you were at in France because they are considered Loyola classes on your transcript and not transfer credits. I studied abroad last semester so I've talked with a lot of advisors about how my credits from abroad work and it sounds like our universities do the same thing. Good luck on your applications!

    have you looked at scad? it's def expensive & idk how easily transfer credits go through but they have a lot of cool majors & programs! im an ad major and i love it a lot & their film program is pretty dope and it could always be a minor. Also the application is super easy (at least the freshman one was) but i think you can use common app as a transfer! also have lacoste campus & hong kong which is so cool so yah idk if you'd be interested at all, but I def recommend looking if you'd want to! & if you ever wanna come tour or visit contact me & i will help you!

    • @vincentespinoza7097
      @vincentespinoza7097 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      DementedEeyore64 this isn't always the case and as someone who went to both a private and public university I can assure that public schools may be cheaper but unless you're applying as an instate student it can just be as expensive as a private sometimes. On the other hand private schools are more expensive but can award you very good aid that can actually end up being cheaper than going to a state school.

    hey! i worked in my college's admission office, and if other colleges run things similarly to how we did, you probably should not list your exchange school if they didn't issue you a transcript. typically, if a school is listed but an accompanying transcript hasn't come in, the applicant stays in limbo for a while. and depending on the admission office's timeliness in communication, you might not be notified until it's late in the process. just my two cents!

    I'm a senior and let me tell you IM AM SO OVER IT!! this whole process has been such a nightmare! My plan was to apply early action, I wanted to get done early not worry about it, had my fafsa, common app, both regular and supplemental essay done, had one of the letters done, However my schools required a counselor letter right...well I asked my counselor if she could write it, she said yes, BUT WAITED A FUCKING MONTH TO GET IT DONE, SO THEN AFTER EMAILS AND EMAILS, SHE FINALLY WROTE IT..AFTER THE FUCKING DEADLINE!!! So now I just finished my applications but one school hasn't emailed me back to confirm that they have my stuff, and when a I call, it is a computer machine and not a person at a fucking office. Then one school tells me my app is incomplete but won't fucking tell me what I am missing. 🌚

    I’m a senior in high school and applying to a bunch of out of state school and finding places that offer my major (neuroscience & premed) and it’s so fucking stressful, but I’ve learned something fairly early on that hasn’t failed me yet and it’s: if you’re doing what you like to do, you’ll end up doing something you like. I think that lesson has just held especially true throughout my high-school experience and now into my college app experience. I’m no longer concerned with where I’ll end up or what I’ll do, because as long as I am currently doing something that makes me happy and pursuing *that*, I’ll be happy. And I think the same thing hold true for most people, do what you want and you’ll figure it all out :)

    • @FrediYoung
      @FrediYoung 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! I have the same majors as you and just wanted to share the university I attend because the programs here are good, especially the neuroscience program. It's called George Mason University and it sits right outside Washington D.C. I am also an out of state student and I came here because the tuition here is below what an out of state price tag usually looks like but still provides and amazing quality education. We have our own Neuroscience research institute called the Krasnow Institute which is putting out amazing research.

    This is so interesting to me because I live in New Jersey and there basically no requirements to transfer to a state school. I just spent the last four months going through the transfer process so I know how stressful it can be. Thankfully there is a law in New Jersey that basically says if you are transferring from a community college with your associates to a state school they have to take all your credits. So even though I haven't taken so of the prerec I need and have taken some class that the state school I am transferring to doesn't even offer, I am still transferring with 64 credits.

    I was applying to transfer colleges last year and was getting rejected by one after the other (including my dream college that I had gotten into in high school but had some financial aid problems so I couldn’t go). I was depressed and miserable for ages until I heard back from the very last one and got in with aid. I’m so much happier and at peace now. Incidentally, I stumbled on the video you made last year about being rejected and related so much to what you were feeling. I’m so sorry you’re still going through this but I promise it’ll be okay. I’d make sure to check the transfer rates of the colleges you apply to, because some private colleges have low (1-5%) acceptance rates, which is the mistake I made. I wish you the best!!

    This is so relatable. I'm currently in the process of trying to transfer and it is a frustrating process and it's stressing me out. I ended up just saying "fuck it" and only applied to one school, and waiting to hear back is the most nerve-wracking thing I've ever done. I just wanna get my degree and move on, ya know? I hope things go better for you this year!

    also, a lot of those requirements for california schools are because most if not 90% of the transfers are from ca community colleges where students follow IGETC. and in the IGETC there are these classes and general classes that you are supposed to take to prepare you for college and they cover your general ed too. but at the same time they want you to take the prereqs for your major, which is why only some classes are required and not the whole IGETC.

    I agree with the private school choice. I’m from NYC and I’m applying to SUNY schools to transfer but I’m also applying to 9 private/ out of state schools that give generous aid. After I got into schools my senior year of high school the private schools ended up cheaper than my state schools. I’m in my last semester of community college and I stopped writing my common app essay to each this video. I hope it all works out, it’s stressful. If you go on collegeessayguy blog, you can type it into google and just put transfer after it in the search and it’s the most helpful website

    I went through a very similar situation. I was in nursing school almost done but I didn’t love it so I quit and changed my major to mass communication and media with a focus in journalism. It’s so broad and like you said applicable to different shit. It’s hard and I feel like I wasted money in nursing school, but I’m almost done and I’ll be doing shit I actually love which is v important. You’re smart and determined so you’ll figure it out too.

    I want to just say that people who do not want to waste their year after not getting in should really apply to a government college or university in India. or any other country in that rank. We might not have many liberal arts colleges but if you are sure about your subjects and ant a nice education especially in tech with guarantee of getting placement in campus. India is growing fast and the education here is getting advanced, people loudly talk about the stereotypes they hear, but it is no very different. The growth is evidence that large proportions of jobs and firms in 20s and 30s will be in India. hope students in future use this advice. Fees is also much lower here.

    Tiffany, put all ur effort into Essays, even community colleges put all their minds into how well video essays are more so than HS grades. Every state. They look into grades, but they look for what you want in the future thru vid essays, I help people with that they wanna know who you are. If they didn't ask for an essay, then idk just helping! U can make up your credits in English to try again! Or go to second and third choice Universities. Hey I live in NYC, what area are you in> I'm from Brooklyn! We can be friends! Are you sure that your AP's don't count as English Requirements for the UC's? I know at least at Berkeley, if you get a 5 on AP Literature you have passed out on both English requirements and do not need to take English at all.

    Okay, so I applied to colleges back in November 2016, right out of highschool, when the country, politically was going to the dogs. My stressing and procrastinating on applications was actually what caused me to find your channel (the rejected from every college video caught my eye). So, me bring a lazy, stubborn doof took my SAT w/o essay, not realizing that UC's (I live in CA) now required them, so come the final week of Novrmber, I hadn't applied to a single school, and just zipped through 6 CSU apps in 2 days, hoping to get in somewhere, I got 3, and am attending CSUF right now :) Good luck girl !!! :D

  • @arabesuku

    I feel you on the stress, it might not be bad idea to contact Loyola about transferring study abroad credits if you're unsure.
    Also, don't know if this is something you'd consider but a lot of schools in NYC (and elsewhere probably) offer continuing education courses that are pretty much exactly the same as what students take and are taught by the same faculty but for a fraction of the price. You don't have to fill out an application or be a graduate, you just take them. I know NYU and SVA offer a bunch. You won't get a degree, but sometimes in certain feilds (esp creative ones) it's more about what you can do and not what degree you have. Anyway, just thought I'd mention that but do ur thing. Good luck with everything!

    I love this college series you are doing and your podcasts! I’m a high school senior and going through all the motions of college and applications and it’s extremely stressful so it’s nice to see I’m not the only one terrified of what’s going to end up happening

    If you can, you should try to visit some of the schools you are interested in. That really helped me when I was writing my transfer essays.

    ya you would need the two english courses for all uc's and cal states. i'm not sure for privates but a lot of them want those classes too.

    I am a senior and I just applied to 18 colleges so I definitely feel your pain. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to go anywhere yet, but I’m hoping for the best. Good luck 💖💖

      Also if you have a question just call the admissions office of the school you’re applying to!! They’ll know how to help you accurately classify information on your transcript and things like that.

    Private universities are so expensive and one year at a private college is like four or more at a public. I would look at going to CSU Long Beach for film. It's one of the best in the country plus it's a hell of alot cheaper.

    • @sb9017
      @sb9017 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or CSU Northridge. Plus those classes that you need aren't that difficult you can always right appeal letters and take the classes you need while you are attending there. Yes and list all schools you where at.
