      Yes! I was thinking the very same! Sadly, the RNRHOF has been far too late with getting many deserving bands inducted in. There's still many great bands from the 60's and 70's to still get inducted and many of the members have passed on. Depeche Mode is one of my favorites bands and a very unique band. Well deserved Depeche mode! R.I.P. Andy Fletcher!

      huge respect to dave for that, although i will acknowledge that he's always been hugely complimentary of him, and out of all members alan was probably closest to him - probably the only member alan would consider a friend. martin's always been a bit uncomfortable talking about the circumstances of his departure (although ultimately recognises how important he was), and andy... well, he's always come off as a petty and resentful dick about it and likes to make it seem that alan was just bitter that he wasn't getting paid more than him

      @rbrtck 3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Vince had already said that he wouldn't take the stage with the band (had everything been normal), even though he was inducted with them and presumably had every right to. He said that he was only with them for a short time, meaning that he is being given too much credit. Of course he's right in a way, but I think considering all points and the big picture, DM would never have existed or gotten anywhere without him. Ideally, in my mind, Vince would have performed one of the songs he wrote with the band, but that was never going to happen anyway since it would be too embarrassing for him, I think, since he had left the band before long.
      As for Alan, he probably didn't show for similar reasons. Although obviously he was with DM for their most important albums and years, they are still a going concern, and have been together a lot longer without him than with him. But still, I personally think that ideally all five of them would have been on stage, or given COVID-19, part of this Zoom call. Then again, if I were Vince or Alan, I might not feel right about it, myself. I'm glad they both got a shout-out and thank you from the band, at least.

    Well deserved gentlemen! Your music has touched millions of us and in every corner of this planet, there is someone who is a total DM devotee. Why is that? Because your music is so unique and the lyrics of your songs are so powerful. Through every decade since the 80's, you have taken us on a journey of emotions. You have been the soundtrack of our lives. I can probably speak for everyone who is your fan that the moment we hear one of your songs, we are taken in, everything around us stops and we are one with the song. Through time, you have evolved into a better version of yourselves. David's voice is more resonant, Martin's lyrics continue to move the soul and Fletch is the backbone that keeps things in balance. You have maintained your musical integrity and you have delivered in every of one of your albums. You had me at "Speak & Spell" all the way to "Spirit". For as long as you tour, I will be there, singing every lyric to every song. Congratulations !!!

I love seeing the camaraderie among this trio. @@michaldankulinec Disagree. If Alan was so good then why isn't he more successful as a solo artist? Also, Ultra was an effing amazing album. Exciter was more of a sleeper hit in part because Martin didn't want to make that album. Gore's songs were already fully formed when he presented them to the band. Alan was a good producer but really it's Gore's genius that has taken the band to where it is. Some fans give Alan way too much credit; it almost like he wrote the songs when Martin did the hard work.

I was sweeping the dial and came upon the chorus of Blasphemous Rumours on CFNY 102.1 (Toronto). I was transfixed. Dear Depeche Mode, I traveled far to see my first live DM concert, it was during your World Violation Tour 1990. I was 17 years old, I had no ticket in my hands, couldn’t buy ahead of time, same for a ticket in front of the arena, as nobody wanted to sell (also no internet back then). I was desperate, sad to travel thousands kilometres, being so close and not being able to get that golden piece of paper. However, out of nowhere, some guy approached me and asked if I wanted to distribute DM merchandise leaflets inside of the arena up to the very start of concert after which he would give me a special pass for a concert. I did my part and merch guy gave me a special yellow rounded sticker tag, with which I was able to get almost anywhere in the arena and enjoy your concert. What a turn of events. Dear DM, congratulations and simply Thank you, thank you for your music. Love

    Indeed, but I think there should have been a little more Wilder, and not equating his role to Vince Clark's; EVERYONE knows it's the Wilder years (AND the Alan Wilder ...influence) that they live on to this day and that, ultimately, got them finally inducted.
    Barely mentioned? He should've been on the zoom. 🤨

    • @jlwilder8436
      @jlwilder8436 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@michaelbruno1330 I didn't forget Clark's role on their first album, I'm just dismissing it a little bit. Yeah, it got them started, but it was the 5 albums (Some Great Reward, Black Celebration, Music for the Masses, Violator and Songs of Faith & Devotion) that I think MOST people would argue are their essential legacy. On each one Alan Wilder played a larger and larger role in the shaping and making of.
      Ultra was great, too, but I think that's mostly because it was the first one without him and they had a lot to prove (also, it took like 37 producers to help make it happen). I don't think they've made a truly great album since, and that's almost 25 years; and the songs that MOST people are still wanting to hear at their shows are from the 5 aforementioned albums that 'made' them.
      So yeah, I think Vince Clark deserved mention, but Alan Wilder deserved a lot more: in their induction but ALSO (& especially) during his time in the band; the credit he was due and never received.

      Totally agree, Clark was there for "Just can't get enough" and first album, but Wilder trully developed their sound and not being here is just sad... They don't have to perfrom or meet in person due to pandemic but the very least, he should have been in this call :( I'm disappointed.

      Without Alan Wilder they would have bombed within 2 years after Vince left and I was an obsessed DM fan from 81. Just look up how much Alan did for them, not just as a gifted pianist and drummer but the hours he and Daniel Miller/ Gareth Jones spent tirelessly on each album in the studio to craft some of the most distinct and timeless albums of the early 80s.
