Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez of the 7th District has declared December 13, 2023, as "Depeche Mode Day" in L.A. A special event at City Hall honored members Dave Gahan and Martin Gore, as well as celebrate the synth-pop outfit's connection with the city, kindled in the '80s and lingering into today. #depechemode #davegahan #martingore

I know this was in L.A., and I am hundreds of miles away from there, but as far as I'm concerned, I think Depeche Mode Day should be an international holiday!

This tribute means the world to me. Depeche Mode was my everything growing up here in LA as a child and young adult-I vividly recall their KROQ moments with Richard Blade. Their music didn't just touch me; it reshaped my artistic landscape. During dark times, their melodies were my saving grace.

Dang the LA airport traffic! Was dropping hubby off and trying to make it to the ceremony in time. Missed it. But, no worries. The show they put on last night at Kia was amazing. Must admit, I cried tears of sadness and joy. DM never lets me down! DM concert goer since 1984, fan since 1981. Yep! My teenaged self would swoon😊

Despite the Sunshine,LA has a dark side and enjoy the melancholy sounds of DM. It’s good to see them laughing and enjoying the honor. LA does love DM because they have a cutting edge EM sound and good songs. Back during 101 they were the hippest coolest sounding band from Britain. They still sound good so it’s great to see them Honored. In the California Sun, it’s December and Graham is wearing a Tshirt! That’s the excellent climate LA has!

A band truly deserving of its day. They have in fact been very underrated. I would’ve loved had Alan wilder remained in the band. Nevertheless they have endured the test of times with countless hits. Thank Depeche Mode 👏👏👏
I miss Alan too. Any DM incarnation is fine by me, more than fine- really. But, the production talent that Alan possesses is/was incredible. It would have been nice to see where his work would have led the group had he remained.

Exactly this. The whole thing was awkward which is likely why MG kept laughing. You can tell from her intro that she was really talking about herself in those “dark days when it seemed the world was falling apart.” And no respect for Dave Gahan’s personal space, she was pawing all over him at every turn. Depeche Mode is *Amazing* but this was laughable in how it was carried out, because with all the issue LA has (I grew up up in LA, so I say that with love for my hometown), the thing this ‘councilwoman’ focused on was to use her position to get a closeup with Dave and Martin.

1983 to 1995. The Alan Wilder years. The definitive Depeche Mode sound for me. Pure genius from the group. Seen them live and was fortunate enough to get 4 autographs back in the 80s. Still not convinced Fletch had any input, musically though.
He didn’t. But I read that his opinion was valued on many decisions on every album. They came to him for advice professionally and personally. He was always their glue to hold them together until they were finally mature enough on their own, even to Spirit. In many interviews he was their orator, almost like a defacto spokesman, even with having Kessler as a manager. He was indeed Martin’s best friend. I think he contributed more than we’ll ever know.
I miss Alan too, but as writers and instrumentalists and vocalists Dave and Martin are musically Depeche Mode and if anything happens to either of them, DM is done.
Me and my wife got to attend their concert in Atlanta, Ga. back on Oct. 15. It was great!
