It's possible to use Windows Vista even now thanks to the extended kernel. In fact, the only reason you were able to get the 1060 running on there in the first place was because of the extended kernel. When it comes to running Minecraft, MultiMC should work fine on Vista so maybe that's worth trying. For hardware compatibility, the cut off point for intel CPUs is 3rd gen, with AMD, anything on AM4 is known to work fine (so Ryzen). It's also possible to patch Vista up until January 2023 using Server 2008 updates (and ESUs)
what about atlauncher that runs on windows xp edit: to install windows xp on modern computers use easy2boot dpms (if you are on intel braswell/5th gen or later acpi wont work and the gtx 1060 3 gig wont work on windows xp, needs windows vista and later) the fastest windows xp compatible graphics card is the quadro m6000/gtx titan x maxwell which works with driver mods
Correction: Windows Vista MAINSTREAM support ended in April 10, 2012. Which is where feature updates stop. And then in April 11, 2017, they ended all support (aka extended support).
You can manually apply Server 2008 "R1" patches to stay somehow safe even to-date (yes you can still apply security patches to Vista in 2023), but keep in mind that some client exclusive features' exploits wouldn't be patched and in those cases they require workarounds.
You're running Vista on the Intel Haswell platform, which is a big problem. The clock circuitry in these CPUs causes Windows Vista to behave unexpectedly, with intermittent failed boot attempts and services failing to start. Intel actually fixed this problem with its latest generation of processors, Alder Lake & Raptor Lake. I still use Windows Vista as my main OS today, and it runs flawlessly on my Core i7 12700KF. For era appropriate hardware, definitely go with any processor from the Intel Ivy Bridge lineup. The Core i7 4930K is the best Ivy Bridge processor which will run Windows Vista flawlessly.
I love windows vista because of all the amazing games. They are simple but great and brings back a lot of memories of when I played it in 2014. Just a beautiful OS tbh

Although this OS is older than me by like, 3 years (don’t talk about this other people😅), I know a lot about this OS. Windows Vista released on January 30, 2007, and extended support ended on April 11, 2017. I have used a Virtual Machine of Windows Vista back in 2022, and I ran Firefox with TH-cam on it. Another thing about Windows Vista was that there was too much storage space filled when people upgraded it (I think), this made the user’s computer slow, which caused people to hate Windows Vista.
Also the fact was, many people had hardware from the 90s-early 2000's with older generation CPUs like Pentium 2s and 3s that were just far too slow to compute the tasks that Vista demanded. Not to mention the average amount of ram people had was 512mb - 2GB at the time and small Hard Drives. Vista requirements are much more in line with Windows 7 truthfully, so in a sense computers and consumers just weren't up to par at the time Vista was announced and released. Thus why it ran notoriously slow for people even on new hardware. If you install it on something like he just showed us, its just as solid as windows 7. But at the time, most PC's were better off with Windows 2000 and or XP becuase those OS's are solid on anything even 128mb of ram. If you install Vista on a Pentium 4 and 4GB of ram with a semi decent video card, it will run just fine, but anything older you are just asking for trouble.
The launcher he uses is Tlauncher, it's blurred out but it's pretty obvious because I know the layout of Tlauncher, Minecraft launcher, multi MC launcher, and a lot more launchers
Wait what? Pascal... Official drivers-HOW! That shouldn't be working. XP is stuck on GTX 950/960, Vista finishes the Maxwell line up. Pascal shouldn't be working unless it's a custom driver.
I have a windows vista laptop - the acer aspire 6530. I don't throw it away because it contained history and is really memorable. Also, these are really rare nowadays. Unfortunately, the only limitation is the ati mobility hd 3200, only supporting up to opengl 2.1. So I can only go up to 1.16.4. Even that, and it runs really slowly because it's 50% of the GT 210's power. Really nice, to be honest.
I still play Minecraft on my Vista laptop. It's a Compaq GC60. It came with a very low powered Nvidia Graphics Card... But it's strong enough to still play Minecraft at Medium settings and 720p resolution.
Minecraft mostly relies on the CPU, so for a given CPU, chances are a GTX 1060 will give you just as good performance as an RTX 3080. If you are a Minecraft nerd you want a good CPU, I literally pair a 12700K with a 2060, but I also tried a 1060 and it's also perfect.
Nice! Windows Vista in 2023 still can handle MC on a beast PC, only the problem is the Mc launcher doesn't launch, so you have to use a cracked launcher and check if it can run. But as its outdated don't install it on 2023.

While Windows Vista should not be for a main rig, these specs and Windows Vista would make for a really nice retro PC. As far as GPUs go, you can’t use Windows XP with 10 series very effectively so Vista is good. It also supports DX11 whereas XP only supports 9.0c
