Nice. We bought our Heartland Mallard M335 at the end of September 2023 and took it on our first trip from Wyoming to Las Vegas and back over a couple weeks in October. We pulled ours with our RAM 2500 Laramie using a weight distribution and sway control hitch setup and had no troubles going over the mountains. We used to tow a 27 foot trailer and this 39 foot was a concern until we hit the road as the truck handled it just fine. We'll choose better locations next spring and summer though as Vegas isn't what it's hyped up to be at all and National Parks will be far better trips.
We've been pleased with our Ram/Mallard combo as well (over the past 3-4 years). We are finishing up all the state parks in TN and I'm ready to hit the road for some longer National Park trips as well. I agree with you completely on Vegas. I don't have much use for that place (although it is interesting and the food is good).
Clarksville, Tenn. home to the 101st Airborne/Air assault Division! Hooah. Thanks for the video. My wife and I hope to be doing the same, shortly. See you out there, God bless.
Our first few trips were up to the Clarksville area. We really liked it. I haven't been on the base since I was a little kid. My buddies and I would stop playing GI Joe long enough to go there to look at all the helicopters. It was heaven! LOL
Hi, I am a first time owner of travel trailer as I will be an empty nester as well with plans to roam . I love your checklists ! Would also have liked to see your first hookups , leveling , etc…
Hey love the video bud we just got a 2022 wolf pup and also live in Nashville,tn and about to travel just like y’all can’t wait to see more vids maybe we will see ya on the road!
We've enjoyed the camper and we started off our RV journey a few years ago with a few trips up to Clarksville. I was surprised how much I liked it. The Clarksville Greenway, Liberty Park, Dunbar Cave, Port Royal, Fort Defiance, The Catfish House, Downtown, The Cumberland River! I want to go back! LOL
I videoed my walk through at Camping World when I bought the camper and have a super mechanical hubby. I did make a step by list for hooking and unhooking for when I went camping by myself. I sold my first Mallard M27 right before Covid ( no clue prices would go through the roof) and now want one just like yours. Thanks for sharing!
I'm working on my 3 year video now to release next week. My wife and I were talking about the camper this weekend as we walked through a campground full of other campers. We decided we will do an Airstream next (when we go more full time) but that the Mallard we bought has been the perfect camper. It really has been perfect for our needs.
Really like you video I have the same setup ram 1500 and we just bought our first trailer Mallard 210RB this was the first one we watched and thanks for the tips love them love our new trailer and looking for the upcoming years of use.
Just found you. guys! I'm a spreadsheet guy also.. Lists are so important and we use checklists all the time.. has saved our bacon more than once. Brought back some memories.. spent a lot of time in the Clarksville area, I was stationed at Ft. Campbell. Had some great times in that area. Good video.. that shake down trip is so important. Thanks for sharing.. looking forward to following your journey.
Spreadsheets are life!!! Ha. Clarksville was more interesting than I thought it was going to be. We had a great time. Back in my GI Joe middle school days we used to go up to Ft. Campbell to look at the cool helicopters. I need to go back up there [adds to list...er...spreadsheet]!
We are a little more than halfway through (in a couple of years). We've learned a lot about RV'ing since we started. We are both still working full time. Once we stop and hit the road we'll knock entire states off in a few months. Can't wait!
Just found y’all. I’m a planner and we’re list makers! Really enjoyed this video. Arkansas state parks are beautiful! Looking forward to watching your other videos.
The planning is half the fun! I love sitting down and figuring out a trip we want to take then hitting the road and seeing what happens. We are currently hitting all the state parks here in TN. Surrounding states are next up. I've got my eye on your state. We'll come down to Hot Springs first then go from there. I need to get my wife retired so we can go on longer adventures without having to come home. Thanks for watching.
We had almost the same problems as you guys! I have the Mallard M335 and our oven took quite a while to get started...but we got it! Our water heater wasn't working at first as well. After digging into the system, I found that our camper was also still in winterized mode (hot water heater bypassed), even though we paid Camping World to have the camper ready! So we are actually gearing up for camping in our camper this season. We bought it in 2019 to live in for 6 months. Last year we didn't have time to use it. This year, we are going to use it as much as we can. So...pretty excited! Love your Yorkie! We used to have Yorkies. Wifey wants another some day. Hope you enjoy your Mallard!
[inserts Will Ferrell / Stepbrothers 'did we just become best friends' meme here] In the grand scheme of things I guess our problems were not all that bad (live and learn). We cranked up a few weeks ago. We got a late start because I got COVID. Gonna knock a lot of state parks off our list this year! Good luck in your travels this year. PS on the Yorkie...ours got very 'nervous' travelling and when we got home he had explosive diarrhea for a day or two. So...he doesn't travel with us anymore.
@@DeanoRolls Our yorkies didn't travel well either. We are going to stick within probably 3 hours of home this year and maybe venture further out next year. But I can't wait! Your idea of hitting all the national parks sounds like a lot of fun. Happy travels!
@@DeanoRolls Oh, and I meant to mention, my black tank and grey tank stickers are backwards! When you said you were having some kind of issue with that...that was the first thing I thought of! I thought maybe the same joker must have built both our Mallards!
@@Muzzleblast-1911 Yikes that could get messy fast! I can't blame my sewer issues on anyone but myself. I somehow confused in/off and out/on. Not good! It is one of those mistakes you only make once however...ingrained in my brain for a lifetime now! Ha! Adventures of the Stinky Slinky!!!
Glad it was helpful. We are on our 5th trip in it this weekend. It has worked well for us. We've had a few issues with it but all resolved. We don't regret the purchase and really like our choice in trailers. We've done 4 trips about an hour from home on weekends and one week long trip across the state. We feel much more comfortable with everything now but it does take some getting used to.
Just seeing you two for the first time. Will subscribe and we'll check out your other videos. Will be curious to learn how you like towing and how your RV holds up once you start cross country type trips. We're still trying to decide on a towable or a Class C. Good luck in all your travels and enjoy yourselves!😎
Thanks for watching. I'm curious how the trailer holds up longer term and with way more miles too. We definitely are trailer/truck people. I just did a one year update a few weeks ago where I talk about that more. When we go more full time I'd imagine we might go to an Airstream (if the current trailer doesn't work for us). Good luck figuring it out.
Good video. Your 1st trip with your RV was much smarter than mine. My very first RV trip was from PA to FL towing a 4000 Lbs of trailer with my SUV. One day, you would not need your check list printed. Everything would go as a second nature.
Thanks for watching. I'd likely give myself a heart attack if I did that without a plan. Ha! I'm a planner so half the fun for me is in the planning and learning something new about something I've not done before.
I put a version of the spreadsheet I discuss in the video on my website (because a few people asked for it). If you use it I hope it helps. You can find it here: deanorolls.com/2020/06/24/our-first-rv-trip/ I’ve done a review each year we’ve owned it. First video of each year’s playlist on my channel. Check those out. Agreed. We are about 30 state parks in and have seen some great places. I'm going to push through and try to finish the rest over the next year and a half. Then it'll be time to see all these other states! LOL
Unloaded it is about 4600 pounds. The truck tows it perfectly (even with the higher gear ratio which I was slightly concerned about). No issues. I discuss all this a bit more in the video where we purchased it. My thoughts haven't changed from this. th-cam.com/video/akdEfSBgyzY/w-d-xo.html
Yep, started doing that too. It took me a couple of times to get the sewer stuff down pat. I don't know why I couldn't figure it out any easier than I did. I think I was just freaking myself out.
@@snipert6841 We just got back from a week in the Great Smoky Mountains. It was our longest trip. As we were recounting on the way home that is exactly what we said. It is the only thing that is worse about RV'ing than staying in hotels. It is worth the trade-off however. Our list of things about hotels that are worse than RV'ing was WAY longer! We agreed that we are now RV'ers for the long haul.
It wasn't what I expected for our first trip but it was a nice campground that was convenient to everything we wanted to do (we stayed there again later that year as we finished out other things in the area).

Good video. Glad to have some more RVer's out there. Get a chance come visit NC. We have lots of good places to camp. I looked at the mallard. I really liked it but we wnt with a forest river surveyor. We are very pleased with it so far.
Thanks for watching. I'd heard that too about CW. We went just to look but wound up finding the camper we liked. I went into the process loaded for bear and was pleasantly surprised. Their service department in our location is completely overwhelmed but they've been good to work with (just always booked up). It was nice to be pleasantly surprised for once on a large purchase...the truck...not so much! Ha!
First off your wife need to trust you. Her comments are obvious. Hitting things is not what anyone wants to do. Let alone the price tag this Mallard is. Anyways not hatting. Just a observation.
I laugh at her all the time that she missed her calling working for some insurance company in the risk mitigation department. She constantly alerts me (and our four kids) to all the dangers that we are oblivious to in life. I told her I couldn't imagine going through life with all that going on in my brain! Ha! In her defense I am known to do some pretty dumb crap at times!
We bought the Same camper today can't wait to get going! Your planning ahead and containers are great advise! Cool
