The answer to "is it worth it?" YES!!! I added the separator to my CT36 two years ago, and I haven't changed the bag or the filter in the extractor since. $400 is steep, but time saved changing bags, not buying bags/filters, that $400 will pay itself back over time.

I keep hearing that you guys are not changing bags.. I’ve had this for only 2 months and I’ve had to empty the bag twice. It’s only connected to my orbital.

I have the CT cyclone with my CT MIDI. Been using it with my track saw, Domino, sanders, and cleaning up after using my bandsaw, hand planing and routing for a year and haven’t had to change the bag in my extractor. Bag looks like new still. So much better than the shop vac and bucket cyclone I started with. Did it make me better at woodworking? No. Haha. But it improved my shop time.

i love learning about new systems. even if you can't afford it , it gives you ideas for doing it on the cheap. being on a shoestring budget i make dew. i have 2 scroll saws each connected to $10 cyclone bagless home vac . i removed the belt and stuffed the hose leading to the head. on my hawk it is about 99% effective.
thanks for your videos . i am usually a silent fan.

I have 2 Festool dust extractors, 1 for site, 1 for workshop. I haven’t changed a bag in either for over a year as I use the hose to suck out the site extractor bag every time it gets full. The dust goes straight into the cyclone tub and when the tub is full it goes into the compost heap.
    Nice video.

Half your video was an actually just an ad for Rockler. The other half was you installing this in your shop. I didn't leave with an answer to the title of the video, "Is This The Best Shop Vac Dust Cyclone?" I'm not sure what the point was.

Hey Chris this is exactly the same setup I have CT 26 and the separator I purchased 2years ago and I have yet to replace a bag but have emptied the separator 3-4 times, I likely do no do as much sanding as you but my setup is hook to my shaper origin as well as my sander and I have no regrets on this purchase 😊

Before I added a cyclone separator to my Rigid shop vac, I was changing bags about once a week, mainly because of my drum sander. With the cyclone I went to about once a year. I would periodically check and dump out the drum canister, but the filter bag was almost empty. I started with Oneida, and after a few years went to a Clear Vue, because it was a lager cyclone. If I ever get a stand alone dust collector, it will have to include a cyclone separator, because of the efficiency it adds.

I hoped to get a bit more understanding of how it is working for you such as how much is getting to your vacuum filter bag, the hose setup, any dislikes, etc.
The form factor is a unique feature and does have value which makes me interested in it.

At first glance, I really doubt it will do any better than the dust deputy I use, but I guess that remains to be seen. I just use a couple shop vacs as I don’t have the room, or money to purchase a decent dust extractor, but I never have to empty the bags as the dust deputy gets all the dust. And that’s using a planner and jointer. I don’t do even close you to what you sand, so maybe my set up wouldn’t do as well with a lot of fine dust? Look forward to hearing your impressions of the Festool.

I'm a big fan of Rockler and Woodcraft, depending upon what I need. I have the Rockler Dustrite dust collection system with the bag for the time being. I also have an Oneida cyclone. You are right, additional dust collection is required for some of those portable / smaller items such as the orbital sander.
We have one life and need to stay healthy. Breathing in all those fine particles is a no-go Pal. Take care and be well.

The dust deputy is more efficient than the festool, rockler and dustopper cyclones, but where the festool shines is integration into the festool system. I'm still on the fence, but could see myself easily splurging on one even though I use a dust deputy 2.5.

I really like mine, there's not a lot of other options that fit in the space where I'm using it and the ability to just roll it around when I'm doing stuff in the house is brilliant. It measurably lowers the suction, but what Marc didn't really address is "does it matter for it's intended use?" and in my humble experience; no. There's still plenty of suction for sanding, the tracksaw and domino use.

Wow, that is a lot of sanding. As successful as you have been this past year, it may be close to time to start looking for an assistant. Maybe a college student that needs something part time, or a young person who is an aspiring maker that would like to learn from the best maker on TH-cam!

I love the separator. Mine is about 1.5 years old I have the small sustainer vacuum. I have changed the bag once. And emptied the bin about 10 times. I also bought the reusable bag and it’s just as great. Hope you enjoy the new dust collection.
