    "An audax is just a bike ride." That's true. However, within that bike ride you will find that there are challenges which prepare you to overcome some of the stresses of life. In all endurance sports you learn about yourself and what you're capable of. You learn how to go further when you thought you were too tired to take another step. You learn how to deal with solving a problem while fatigued and under time pressure. The value of sharing the ride with other people is reinforced. It's a microcosm of life, distilled down into a bike ride. Once done, you have experience and self-knowledge you might not have had otherwise. Ultimately, an audax is just a bike ride, but it's also an opportunity for personal growth. Thanks for the video!

      So true! I think I should have done a better job of prefacing the statement "just a bike ride." It was meant for the people who put so much pressure on themselves to do a task, like a bike ride. Sometimes we have the habit of getting in our own way.

    • @carlovillarica

      But so true. I've learned so much from just riding my bike.

    This is very timely as I will be doing my first Audax 300km in Bohol next month. I used to chunk it down every 5km when I am drained already just to push me home but for my next Audax, I would probably try to follow your advice and enjoy the ride and remind my self that it is just a bike ride :)

    What you said in the video is true. Long rides/ races will test your mental toughness as well, not only the physical. Nobody’s sponsoring me or paying me when I race, so I try and enjoy my time on my bike. Appreciate the surroundings and the people around you. I read one time from a gravel cyclist and I quote, “A racer is a person that shows up in a race”. I always set my perspective that way. This will make the ride enjoyable and a little bit easier to endure.
    Be safe on your rides, bro! Until next time 🍻

      Btw, I have a race coming up in June, nothing big, it’s 44 miles in Martin, MI. It’s called the Dirty Donut Race. Every donut you eat at a station, they will deduct 5 seconds off your completed time 😂. I’m training hard… 3-5 donuts per station 😊 two stations the whole course. Yum 🍩

      hahah that sounds like a GREAT race! I should do something like that here

    Well said, bro! In the next two weeks, I'll be planning my first 400 km bike ride, having already completed a 300 km ride in the past. I believe that half the game happens in our heads, with the mental aspect.

      That's so true! That's the part that is difficult to train

    what you said is so true, and the funny part is that the last 25% is actually the most challenging part physically and mentally, but I've gotten past that and its actually just the same as climbing a hill, pace well, find your preferred distraction, sing even albeit internally
    that peeking in the cycle computer does mess with your mind, its like finding out there's an even harder climb after that sharp climb ALKSJAFLKJASF
    this is easier tho with pals just because 🤣

    • @carlovillarica
      @carlovillarica  ปีที่แล้ว

      haha yup! I need to remind myself to just not look at the computer sometimes. Anyway it's not going to make it faster or easier

    Your point about detaching your brain from the remaining distance is good, but it works only when you've got everything else dialed in order for you to continue riding for as long as possible. If your saddle position/height is off, or if your shoes give you foot pain, those will exacerbate your distance-consciousness because you're having such an unpleasant time of it. That mental state has to be supported by correct preparation. Otherwise, good video.

    • @carlovillarica
      @carlovillarica  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's so true. That's why in the beginning of the video I presupposed that the rider have all the basics down. But so true. If the basics aren't taken care of, it's difficult to zone out
