How Islam Saved Western Civilization

  • Dr. Roy Casagranda pushes back against the artificial East-West paradigm and show how the so-called "Dark Ages" was in fact a period with enormous intellectual achievement. After laying out the contradictions within the construct of the paradigm of western civilization, Dr. Casagranda examines how Muslim Persian, and Jewish, Christian, and Muslim Arab philosophers preserved and advanced Western civilization while Europe wallowed in the Medieval.
At 1:20:45 I say "When Qin the Great unifies India..." I obviously meant China.

As a psychology professor, one of the first things I learned as a student in my History of Psychology course was that the first mental hospitals in the world were established in the Middle East. Muslims were the first to actually try to treat mental disorders instead of seeing people as being witches or demonically possessed.

This is all made up. For 50 years or so since I was a boy, I heard of Islamic terrorism. Oct. 7th came and it was Islamic terrorism. Just today, 300 people killed in Nigeria.
There is nothing in the Islamic world other than killing.
I guess one could argue that culling animals allows for more space so the herd is stronger and I would agree. So by bombing people, Islam helps drive technology for detecting bombs.

Cute catalogue of convenient quotes from the "holy" comic book, but you need to include the corresponding HISTORY of the maniacs who follow that deranged cult, from Umayyads, Abbasids, Mamelukes, Ottomans and more, which left a million mile trail of blood, slaughter, mass rape and genocide of entire populations just as they have done to the present. Don't try to sanitize islam with a few quotes from the Quacky Quran. That same book advocates and justifies the murder of "infidels" (i.e. all non-muslims), the capture and enslavement of women, the brutal subjugation of their own women. You can see the muslim morons lashing out at European countries today that "desecrate" the muslim holy comic book. “And those of your women as have passed the age of monthly courses, for them the ‘Iddah (prescribed period), if you have doubt (about their periods), is three months; and for those who have no courses [(i.e. they are still immature) their ‘Iddah (prescribed period) is three months likewise”
      [al-Talaaq 65:4]
In this verse we see that Allaah states that for those who do not menstruate - because they are young and have not yet reached the age of puberty - the ‘iddah in the case of divorce is three months. This clearly indicates that it is permissible for a young girl who has not started her periods to marry.
Al-Tabari (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:
The interpretation of the verse “And those of your women as have passed the age of monthly courses, for them the ‘Iddah (prescribed period), if you have doubt (about their periods), is three months; and for those who have no courses [(i.e. they are still immature) their ‘Iddah (prescribed period) is three months likewise”. Have you lied (even once in your entire life), looked with lust (sexual desire), dishonoured parents, stolen anything, had hatred towards someone, had premarital sex, adultery etc If you answered yes to any one of the above then you are a sinner like the rest of us.
So, I ask you again, why should God let a sinner into Heaven?
Sinners don’t go to heaven they go to hell, But we are blessed to have Jesus (God incarnate) die on the Cross and rise from the dead. If you Repent (forsake your sinful, unholy ways and live righteous instead) & Believe in Jesus as God, you will be seen as a Saint and welcomed into Heaven.

@@haticeergun7618 one thing Muslims do not understand, (which I can see why, just wasn't taught or studdied doctrine properly) is that the Bible usese idiomatic expressions from Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek to mean completely different things when phrasing in our modern "Arabic, Or any other language" translation. And when the Bible uses phrases as, son of God, messenger, or messiah ect. These are titles understood by the old languages and the cultural people of the past. We modern people do not use the Bible's phrasing and titles the same way as the people of the past understood it. So we can't say "Jesus was not God" based on our modern Grammer and lack of cultural knowledge of the past. I argue that the Bible (based on its own interpretation, not our own modern way) does in fact suggest Jesus claims to be God, and is not contradictory when he accepts and/or calls himself titles that doesn't sound like God in our modern words.

First of all Jesus was NOT Arami but he was as son of Israel as his uncle Moses..
Actually Mary the mother of Jesus was the daughter of Imran/Amram who was in turn the son of Levi one of the 12 sons of Israel.
Thus Jesus spoke Hebrew and the Gospel along with the Book of Wisdom/The Hebrew jurisprudence was sent down to him in Hebrew ..What does Aramaic have anything to do with Jesus..!?
We the Muslims received the pure knowledge after 600 years of Jesus was saved from the bloodthirst jews in 610 AD to be exact. Whether you accept it or not it is entirely your problem but the truth of the matter is that Jesus was created without a father just to prove a point that the All Mighty God/Alllah SWT is capable of everything and He created Jesus just out of a mother without any father being involved in the process of his conseption and gave him extraordinary powers right from his birth like he started talking straight after his birth and declared his prophethood and his holy Book.
It is due to the extremely jealous and belligerent jewish rabbis Jesus was never received and appreciated for what and who he is and finally they tried to punish him for being so perfect in his creation but the All Mighty Alllah SWT never allowed that to happen to him so He took his soul after informing him about it and raised him upto Hinself.
Therefore Jesus died of a natural death at the age of 30 and after 600 years the All Mighty Alllah SWT chose a son of Ismael instead of son of Israel and sent down His uneditable Last Holy Book of Qur'an and declared Muhamnad pbuh the prophet of the entire mankind.
Now whether you accept that or not again entirely your own problem.
Since the All Mighty Alllah SWT is only putting us on test to see who will accept His truth while unable to see or talk to Him solely believing in His Book or rejecting His Book.
That is basically what the story of this life is all about..!
However, jews will continue complicating things for both themselves and for entire non Muslims since they cannot sink their teeth into Muslims skins..!

      So it has two definitions?
      1. Hate of Islam
      2. Hate of Muslims
Why is hating Islam bad? I hate Mormonism because it is false, I hate the Aztec religion because it is also false and has human sacrificing. I hate nazism because it leads to death and destruction. And I hate Islam because it leads to violence and intolerance. There’s nothing wrong with hating ideas because ideas can be good or bad. We don’t say that people who hate Christianity or Hinduism are christianophobic or Hinduphobic because we acknowledge that hating ideas is legitimate. Muslims hate Christianity because they believe that Christian’s have raised a man (Jesus) to the level of God and that’s a sin. Muslims hate Hinduism because they see Hindus as idol worshipers who deny the oneness of God. Muslims hate a whole bunch of religions and their ideas and if they didn’t then they wouldn’t be Muslim. So why do we need a word for someone who hates Islam when Islam is also just a bunch of ideas expressed in the Quran and Hadiths? What makes Islam so special that hating it is wrong?
As for the second definition, I don’t think it’s wrong to hate people who support bad ideas. If I think nazism is bad then it follows that I will think Nazis are bad too. Am I wrong if I hate nazis? I don’t think so, and I don’t think people would condemn me if I said I hated nazis. So why is it wrong for me to hate people who in the past enslaved my ancestors because they were non-Muslims? Why would it be wrong for me to hate people whose religion says I must die because I am an atheist? Why is it wrong if I hate people whose religion allows them to enslave me and r*pe my mother and sister because they’re Christian women? Why is it wrong if hate a religion that would tax non-Muslims differently to Muslims and embarrass them until they accept Islam? A treatment that Muslims would complain about if western nations were to impose a tax on non-Christian’s. Why is it wrong if I hate a religion that says that a non-Muslim can never lead a Muslim nation when Muslims are elected yo parliaments and senates in non-Muslim countries? How comes everyone else makes concessions for Muslims but Muslims make absolutely none for everyone else? In India the Muslim population has grown and grown and mosques are constantly being built to serve the Muslim community. Whereas in Pakistan and Bangladesh the Hindu populations have shrunk and shrunk and it’s not even possible to build a Hindu temple because Pakistan and Bangladesh are Muslim countries whose laws are informed by sharia law and, under Islamic jurisprudence, non Muslims are not allowed to build new places of worship under Islamic law.
I value free speech while under Islamic law it would be illegal for me to speak against Islam. So why should I not hate any group of people that would seek to bring my country or society under illiberal islamic law?
If these be your definitions of Islamophobia then I am proudly islamophobic, but so what? I see Muslims proclaiming how much they hate western liberalism all the time because western liberals support LGBTQ and atheism. Should we call Muslims Liberalphobic and condemn them for hating western liberalism? No, you can hate ideas if you think they’re bad and hate the people who propagate them. The problem with Islam is that, unlike the liberals, they’re willing to kill their opponents for not agreeing.
I strongly disagree with your claim that Islamophobia is the same as anti-Semitism. Anti-semetism isn’t about hating the religion of the Jews, it’s about hating the ethnicity. You can find videos of bible scholars and popular atheists channels criticising Judaism.
Anti-semitism is more like racism, whereas Islamophobia is not targeted at any race at all as Muslims can be black, white, brown or any other race on the planet. Islamophobia is simply a word used to shut down any negative discussion regarding Muhammad and his religion. It is not a word that anyone who genuinely wants ideas to be debated should ever use. If your problem is people being bigoted towards Muslims then why not use the word ‘Muslimphobia’ or ‘anti-Muslim bigotry’? Using the word ‘Islamophobia makes Islam the subject and therefore gives cover to a religion that has a whole bunch of bad ideas that deserve to be criticised. When you use that word you raise the religion above criticism and I do not believe that there is any idea on this earth that is so sacred that it can never be critiqued.
For all the reasons I have stated, and many more that I have not, I would humbly ask you to reconsider any future use of the word. But it now occurs to me that you’re probably a Muslim and therefore won’t stop using the word because it provides protection for your religion.
You say that Islamophobia is a cancer in the world, but I say the real cancer is Islam itself and its horrible ideas. Why are you a Muslim?

@@mugikuyu9403 antisemitism is hate of Jewish people, that can be any race if they are Jewish, Islamaphobia is the hate of the people who follow Islam.
You can hate if you want to hate, but hate will not make you think straight. You can dislike, which is something separate from hate, but Islam doesn’t teach intolerance and violence, it teaches tolerance and accepting of others.
It is why I converted to Islam.
You should learn more about it and why jealousy, envy, and hate is bad for you.
I can dislike you lied to me, but I wont hate you for it.
I also became a Muslim because God loves me, and I love God. But the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him said, if you love God, you have to love your fellow human beings first Alhumdulilah.
Such a beautiful religion. Who can hate something so beautiful? Well, I know the answer to that, people who are jealous and envy it’s beauty, they choose to hate it and are racists.
You know shaitan was kicked out of heaven cause he was racist. He thought he was better than Adam. Don’t be hateful, don’t be racist. In sha Allah, you’ll be a better person, ameen.

"If there is much misunderstanding in the West about the nature of Islam, there is also much ignorance about the debt our own culture and civilisation owe to the Islamic world. It is a failure which stems, I think, from the straitjacket of history which we have inherited. The medieval Islamic world, from Central Asia to the shores of the Atlantic, was a world where scholars and men of learning flourished. But because we have tended to see Islam as the enemy of the West, as an alien culture, society and system of belief, we have tended to ignore or erase its great relevance to our own history."

This clearly indicates that it is permissible for a young girl who has not started her periods to marry.

Historian of science *Victor Robinson* succinctly summarises the contrast between medieval Europe and Islamic Spain:
“Europe was darkened at sunset, Cordova shone with public lamps; Europe was dirty, Cordova built a thousand baths; Europe was covered with vermin, Cordova changed its undergarments daily; Europe lay in mud, Cordova’s streets were paved; Europe’s palaces had smoke-holes in the ceiling, Cordova’s arabesques were exquisite; Europe’s nobility could not sign its name, Cordova’s children went to school; Europe’s monks could not read the baptismal service, Cordova’s teachers created a library of Alexandrian dimensions.”
( Robinson, V. (1936). The Story of Medicine. New York: Tudor Publishing Company, p. 164. )
      Professor *Thomas Arnold* Said :
“..…Muslim Spain had written one of the brightest pages in the history of Medieval Europe…bringing into birth a new poetry and a new culture, and it was from her that Christian scholars received what of Greek philosophy and science they had to stimulate their mental activity up to the time of the Renaissance.”
      (Arnold, T. (1896). The Preaching of Islam, p. 112.)
Perhaps one of the most poignant summaries of the greatness of the civilisation that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ created,
is in a speech by the former CEO of *Hewlett Packard,* Carly Fiorina:
“There was once a civilization that was the greatest in the world. It was able to create a continental super-state that stretched from ocean to ocean, and from northern climes to tropics and deserts. Within its dominion lived hundreds of millions of people, of different creeds and ethnic origins. One of its languages became the universal language of much of the world, the bridge between the peoples of a hundred lands. Its armies were made up of people of many nationalities, and its military protection allowed a degree of peace and prosperity that had never been known.
“And this civilization was driven more than anything, by invention. Its architects designed buildings that defied gravity. Its mathematicians created the algebra and algorithms that would enable the building of computers, and the creation of encryption. Its doctors examined the human body, and found new cures for disease. Its astronomers looked into the heavens, named the stars, and paved the way for space travel and exploration. Its writers created thousands of stories. Stories of courage, romance and magic.
“When other nations were afraid of ideas, this civilization thrived on them, and kept them alive. When censors threatened to wipe out knowledge from past civilizations, this civilization kept the knowledge alive, and passed it on to others. While modern Western civilization shares many of these traits, the civilization I’m talking about was the Islamic world from the year 800 to 1600, which included the Ottoman Empire and the courts of Baghdad, Damascus and Cairo, and enlightened rulers like Suleiman the Magnificent.
“Although we are often unaware of our indebtedness to this other civilization, its gifts are very much a part of our heritage. The technology industry would not exist without the contributions of Arab mathematicians. Leaders like Suleiman contributed to our notions of tolerance and civic leadership. And perhaps we can learn a lesson from his example: It was leadership based on meritocracy, not inheritance. It was leadership that harnessed the full capabilities of a very diverse population that included Christianity, Islamic, and Jewish traditions. This kind of enlightened leadership-leadership that nurtured culture, sustainability, diversity and courage-led to 800 years of invention and prosperity.”
      (Hewlett Packard. (2001). Carly Fiorina Speeches. Technology, Business and Our Way of Life: What’s Next.}

♦️Historian of science Victor Robinson succinctly summarises the contrast between medieval Europe and Islamic Spain:
      ♦️Professor Thomas Arnold Said :
“..…Muslim Spain had written one of the brightest pages in the history of Medieval Europe…bringing into birth a new poetry and a new culture, and it was from her that Christian scholars received what of Greek philosophy and science they had to stimulate their mental activity up to the time of the Renaissance.”
      (Arnold, T. (1896). The Preaching of Islam, p. 112.)
♦️Perhaps one of the most poignant summaries of the greatness of the civilisation that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ created,
is in a speech by the former CEO of Hewlett Packard, Carly Fiorina:

Only God can or may do that even with God no guanrantee but kissing a black stone yes. Muhammad changed prayer direction from Jerusalem to pagan Kaaba when he realised Christians and Jews would never accept him as Prophet. So he made Islam his own Arab religion mixing pagan tradition with his own personal new religion. First he started to adore his former pagan stuff again only thing he did was get rid of the competition the 360 idols. If the Christians and Jews did not want him arab tribes would have to follow him. That is why he tried to marry as many women of different families to become their son so he would be protected under tribal rules.

He said: The same applies to the ‘idaah for girls who do not menstruate because they are too young, if their husbands divorce them after consummating the marriage with them.

Allah the Exalted clarifies the waiting period of the woman in menopause. And that is the one whose menstruation has stopped due to her older age. Her Iddah is three months instead of the three monthly cycles for those who menstruate, which is based upon the Ayah in (Surat) Al-Baqarah. 228 The same for the young, who have not reached the years of menstruation. What a pleasure listening to his lectures which connect me to my parents’ countries ( Spain and Lebanon), two countries dear to my heart and through which I got to explore the regions around them ( the Levant in the case of Lebanon and the Iberian Peninsula and furthermore travel and live in Italy, Malta, Crete, Turkey and France, countries where Arabs left their imprint directly or indirectly. What’s sad is that none of these historical facts have been taught by my European teachers at the French Lycées where I was schooled when we lived in London, Rome, Madrid, Stockholm, Santiago and Houston, nor at any European university. Europeans don’t even know their own history, they think that everything goes back to the Greeks and Romans. They’re so ignorant! They don’t even know where Europe was born and that she was Phoenician from Tyre ( what is today Lebanon the land that gave us the Alphabet and many other inventions.

An amazing lecture. I learned many things in this season. But I want to add something. One of the reason of muslims to sought for knowledge and science is their religion itself. Most other relegion and theological scholars considers reasoning to be opposite of faith. But Quran says that reasoning is the first step toward faith. No one can be guided to the right path unless he uses his reasoning and intelligence.
" And it is not for a soul to believe except by permission of Allah , and He will place defilement upon those who will not use reason." (Quran 10:100)
Not only this verse but there is hundreds of verses that says Its reader to reason and use intellect. And there are some verses that clearly encourage to sought for scientific knowledge and do research.
" Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding.Who remember Allah while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sides and do research on the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], "Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire. (3:190-191)
"Say, [O Muhammad], "Travel through the land and observe how He began creation. Then Allah will produce the final creation. Indeed Allah , over all things, is competent."" (29:20)
so the muslim philosopher, mathematicians and scientists all were doing what Quran said to do to its followers.

      (Hewlett Packard. (2001). Carly Fiorina Speeches. Technology, Business and Our Way of Life: What’s Next.}
