  • A common problem with keeping and breeding shrimp is feeding the proper amount and know how to feed, what to feed and when to feed. I want to show you a few tips that I've used to increase my success rate with breeding shrimp. We cover everything from when you should feed, what you should feed and how often you should feed
The 480 gallon is an example of how proper planning and execution can lead to successful shrimp breeding. Simple things like rocks, driftwood and plant can help you immensely when it comes to feeding. Shrimp keeping and breeding really comes down to just following some simple rules and know what to look for.

I make my own foods and feed twice a day. In the morning I use a powdered food and in the evening I feel the pellets I make. Also always keep leaf litter in the tank for them to graze on.
For my powdered food I bloom some snowflake food(Soy bean hulls) and then let them dry back out. once dry run them through a cheap coffee grinder or like a magic bullet. After its turned into a powder I mix in spirulina powder, moringa powder, bee pollen, a bit of calcium powder and some tropical fish flakes. Blend it all together to mix and turn to powder and its done. I do 1/8th teaspoon of it per 10 gallons every morning.
For the pellets I make I use pumpkin as a base. In the fall I buy a couple locally grown pumpkins, cut them into quarters, remove seeds and crap from inside and then freeze. After its frozen when it thaws its basically mush. I will then let it thaw completely and blend it up to get it into a nice puree. into the puree I mix in spirulina powder, moringa powder, calcium powder, bee pollen, powdered soy hulls and some tropical flakes. I mix it undil its a dough like consistency similar to what homemade pasta would be like.
I then take that dough and put it through a clay extruder to form like spaghetti but thinner. dry it in my dehydrator for a couple hours then break it up and it breaks into perfect sized pellets.

Good video. Maybe clarify to folks that diversity of food is different than switching food. Less is more but make sure the animals in your care are getting the balanced nutrition they require to thrive. For instance I have a weekly pill container and I separate one type of food for that day and it stays consistent.

I added one of the algae shrimp lollies to my tank that has about 40-50 RCS along with my fish. The dwarf pencilfish and a couple of the habrosus cories also picked at this right alongside the shrimp for quite some time which surprised me. Haven't tried the other "flavors" yet, but will be interested to see if these fish continue to enjoy this treat. WCMM in the tank showed no interest. But it was fun to watch the shrimp going at it.

We live in Okinawa, Japan and we don't speak/read the language so I am just flying by the seat of my pants with my tank. We have been salt tank people for more than 30 years and I just wanted the shrimp tank. The fish are all gone now, save a Pleco to keep the glass clean. I think I have about a million shrimp in my tank. I generally feed them once or twice a week and they seem to just flourish. I am sure I am breaking all the rules but I sure do love my little tank.

Back when I had an aquarium. I had shrimp in my aquarium along with serveral basic aquarium fish like neon tetras. And with other causcasians like Mexican red dwarf crayfish, and later I also had a Red claw crab. There were lots of plants and things in the aquarium. I never dead the shrimp, they just mostly ate the algea and the left over fish and crab foods. The shrimp lived the longest of all the animals ij the aquarium, until they got killed by an old bottom dwelling fish that is not supposed to be aggressive at all. But I've seen someone on facebook feeding their shrimp spinach leafs and their shrimp really started to swarm the leaf and loved it, soI'll try that if I'll have an aquarium again in the future

Definitely a lot of shrimp in the tank. It appears to be infested. That sounds a little negative but not all infestations are bad.

Not as much as youd think...if sold as a single unit...maybe 2k or with the tank and gear being 700 to 900 i bet...the shrimp wholesale would be 2 dollars or less, usually 1 dollar ... so reselling all of them ...youd likely get even less than that.
Now if you sold everything retail....hmm 5 to $6,000 id guess

Keep em hungry . they won't die if you don't feed them often. They always have hidden snacks. At least my tank does

If they dont come , something is wrong? Mine dont really come for food. I dont know what is wrong. I keep getting babies. I have algae and biofilm, I use Bacter AE, my tank is full planted (no place for more). I dont find dead shrimp. No ammonia, no nitrite, and nitrates are low because of the plants, and tropicals one, over the tank. 7 driftwood, many rocks and hiding spot. I dont know. Nothing interest them. I bought all 😂
