"Dirty but dry!" A ramble along the Jericho Valley to the sea Blue Hills, St Agnes, Cornwall

- This walk starts about a mile east of St Agnes, in an area called Wheal Kitty, named after the once prosperous mine nearby. The route takes us through a pretty valley, known locally as the 'Jericho Valley' once a thriving Cornish tin mining district. No-one quite knows how the valley came by it's name! Mother nature has reclaimed the scarring on the landscape of the former industry, leaving very little evidence behind.
Some of the mine workings have been preserved and renovated at Blue Hills Tin Streams, a site now open to tourists. We take a brief look around in this video but for a more detailed tour and see what there is here, we have a bonus video on our Patreon page.
After visiting the Tin Streams, we take a little detour towards the coast, Trevellas Porth with stunning sea views, before tackling the steep climb up the South West Coast Path towards St Agnes. This steep hill is part of the route of the ACU Land's End Trial, organised annually by the Motor Cycling Club, challenging both cars and motor cycles to reach the top of the cliff path on a rough surface.
Continuing on the coast path, we gained views of Trevaunance Cove and towards St Agnes. The walk does not take us into the village, and instead we headed back to Wheal Kitty, a complex of workshops and retail outlets in the former mine buildings before returning to our car.

We are Sarah and Andrew and we film our walks around Cornwall and publish on TH-cam, usually weekly. Sometimes we stay in accommodation in Cornwall and upload our vlog. Sarah is fascinated by sea glass and likes to collect it so there may be the occasional sea glass video too. The channel is a hobby and we both have normal day jobs!

We love May, June for flora and fauna, July and September for spectacular scenery.

My father was born in a tin shed in Jericho valley .
That was a delightful walk, despite being slightly lost, full of wonderful banter & Interesting information, reminiscent of my time with my very entertaining husband, we had the same rapport with each other as you do Sarah & Andrew, we had a very happy sixty years together, we also always had a canine companion with us very
faithful friends, like your adorable doggie, The Blue Hills Legend of tin was interesting, pleased you treated yourself to some of that fabulous jewellery Sarah, I would have done back in the day, thank you once again for brightening up a very wet and dull day here in Derby’s, I wonder if the ‘Fox Snails’ are still wrapped in their pink duvets! 🤗

We had much the same problem when we walked from Perranporth to St Agnes, we got lost and boy is that steep part steep!!. We intended to catch the bus from the mining institute in St Agnus back to Perranporth , but it did not show , so we had to get a Taxi back. But it all makes great memories. Hope your both well.

The beach ,well the carpark and track, at blue hills (Trevalas Porth) was used in the 1996 film ,BLUE JUICE,, it stared Catherine zeta Jones, Sean Pertwee and Ewan McGregor. It also used Mousehole and St Ives,. The track to the beach was a lot smoother back then !

About 3 years ago, before I finally made my move to Cornwall, I had a lovely holiday in Trevaunance Cove with my family. We stayed in an apartment in the big white house to the left of the orange house you pointed out. I even managed a little of the coast path with my son - up the steps next to the Driftwood and along to a point where we were looking down into Trevallas Cove, then we cut back away from the coast, coming out by what appeared to be old mine buildings that had been converted into a cafe and retail area (would that be Wheal Kitty? It wasn't Blue Hills) then walked back down into the village.

We have a number of tin jewellery items from when you could buy them from Mark himself at the mine. I have two Cornish Piskies. (Always leave the ‘knobbly’ bit at the end of a pasty near their box overnight in case they get peckish.)

I love my sling bag too!! A recent purchase to allow me some freedom, instead of always waiting for Andrew to stop so that I can have a quick mouthful of water!! It's by Kavu and I bought it in a local surf lifestyle shop. The straps are old climbing rope, Sarah :)

Did you know that the Seal sanctuary in Gweek, got started by Ken Jones in St Agnes? I looked on the Google maps street view but the house and swimming pool seem to be long gone. Ken rehabilitated grey seals in the swimming pool. I went to school with his daughter, Linda. The house was just down from the Driftwood Spa (original location)
The first time we went to Blue Hills, there was a young couple in an old dormobile van who couldn't get up the hill and had to be rescued and towed up.
Maybe you cud get the council to pay you to do it

We are a small walking channel in Cornwall, it's a hobby with limited time because we work. We rely on the small amount of ad revenue and support from patrons to make the videos. Very short COMPLICATED walks in Cornwall! You haven't got lost for quite a while so thank goodness the trusty ordnance was on hand to help out....can't beat the old fashioned way! ''Dog streaming!'' .....bless his heart, that ''little brown doggy'' of yours. Always a joy to watch him faithfully getting lost with you two along the way too!! Looked very quiet in the Blue Tin Mine. That will change I guess when the school holidays emerge soon. Beautiful honeysuckle and foxgloves along the way. Hi Judy! Yes we had fun finding our way! We counted 5 other paths leading to Wheal Kitty so it would have been hard for the author to write the instructions. I think part of our frustration was that we knew a route back to our car but the instructions were taking us along another route and we couldn't find it or quite understand the point of it! We walked up the Jericho valley in the early 70's before the Blue Hills attraction was built. There was just a rusty set of stamps there and a smallish building. There was also an adit on the left on the way up the valley. The way down and back up hasn't changed much though - still the tight steep corner with the gouged road.
That must be a similar experience to the Bob Acton book, as he describes a leat, stamps and remains of a waterwheel! Sarah :)
I love the Jericho Valley. One of my favourite walks is in that Bob Acton book, starting at Perranporth, along Perran Coombe, Mithian, Jericho Valley then along the cliffs back to Perranporth. Quite long, so good for a whole day, but the cliffs especially are spectacular, and the colours in the rocks are amazing.

Walked from Perranporth to St Agnes along coast other day when down there, that steep bit really is steep! Am I the only one who spotted it said trial on the bench not trail as you said?!
