Oooh a train ride. Wonderful...and a walk through water and woods This was a magical antidote to painting bedroom walls. Just as Andrew said he was filming peoples bedrooms. Thank you all so much. I needed this and fell into the scenery.❤️❤️❤️❤️
Can't begin to tell you how much I look forward to your videos, they are so informative and enjoyable and bring back so many happy memories of places I have visited. You both bring such a happy, fun sense of humour into your videos which brighten I'm sure everyone's day in this tough time. Thankyou for all your hard work to bring happiness into this world, which is so badly needed. Already looking forward to the next video. Take care and keep safe. Xx
Great video Sarah and Andrew. Nothing nicer than watching a train ride with a walk. The scenery and history of the area are stunning. Loved the beautiful buildings in Calstock.
Gorgeous combo of a scenic train journey and a scenic walk...double treat! Calstock looks so pretty - especially with the cheerful pastel paint colours on the buildings. The wall plaques with the history of each building is such a good idea. Will definitely be trying that one when next in Cornwall. You two always find interesting, quirky and fascinating details wherever you go...love it :) x
Good morning - you are looking great ! Just seen a few minutes - the full video must wait until my bookshop closes. I am so much looking forward ❣ Thank you for another lovely "walk"- take good care of yourselves !!! 🙋🏼♀️
The Branch lines are so very pretty in Cornwall & this one brings back many happy memories. It was such a gentle video with lots of interest. Clever editing certainly brought the story to life and your banter and laughter gives us such pleasure. Your doggie seems to have enjoyed his day as well and a great addition to your team, I am sure he enjoyed the train ride as much as you did. Again Thank you 10/10
What a great way to spend the day. Quite an historic place - Celts, Vikings, Anglo-Saxons, wow. And can't say I've known any Egberts, but I had an aunt named Daisy Ripple :-)
Looking around one afternoon, I found a website for businesses & landmarks in my hometown no longer in existence, the list growing w/each local's commentary. Luv idea of store plaques listing fmr establishments - living history at it's best! The dnhill stroll + trainride's rt up my alley!
Oh Gunnislake, I was trying to remember the name of this town. I remember it from years ago when a mine shaft opened up in his back garden, I was living in Perranporth at the time.
To answer your question, I've never caught the train from Plymouth and ridden along the Tamar Valley Line, crossing the stunning Calstock viaduct, but this lovely video certainly makes it tempting. A visit to border country could well be in order! Haven't read that Sarah Foot book but love her work - she was a fine writer who really captured the spirit of old Cornwall.
Well that one was a bit different! And even I got a mention from Andrew with his King Egbert and friends....I'm not QUITE that old fashioned and people only call me Judith when they are angry with me! Calstock looks beautiful and looks like you got the train all to yourselves and that scrumptious doggy of yours! Bless his heart with the shortbread snacks. Lovely autumn ride and walk you two. Look forward to next week's instalment. J x
A wonderful video through the enchanted valley. I also photographed the street sign Gunnislake on our vacation in 2018 when we were in Cothele and turned the u into a ü. My nickname is Günni. Thanks for the great video. stay healthy. Greetings Günter
Hi Sarah and Andrew, fantastic video; I love the Tamar Valley area, and the Danescombe Valley and Calstock are lovely. It's well worth exploring the Devon side too, opposite Gunnislake and Calstock there's a wealth of trails along the valley down to Morwellham Quay and up to Devon Great Consols Mine. Many thanks.
Hi there! Hope you are well! With your wide knowledge of Cornwall, you may be just the person to answer a mystery! We noticed that Danescombe had two spellings. The old signs and the ordnance spell 'Danescoombe', i.e. double 'o', but the National Trust properties and google have only a single 'o'. Are you aware of anything? Sarah
@@CornishWalkingTrails Hi there, I'm only aware of the Danescombe spelling, but the name comes from 'Danes' Coombe' (which means 'Valley of the Danes',), and the spelling of place names tends to change over time. I'm guessing the 'Danescoombe' you saw is just an older spelling.
Ça y est ! I ve seen it ! Good idea for a nice walk. I loved the " decision's time", soo funny.. 😂😂 You should make this institutional in your videos lol. Happy to see both of you without wearing a mask, your smiles are contagious, and I love this virus !
We tried very hard to conceal the masks when it was obligatory - if we find ourselves wearing one, we will have to learn to have expressive eyes! Sarah :)
Another wonderful episode! Although my wife Tracey and I regularly travel across the border by train into lovely Cornwall, often the stunning St. Ives, we have yet to visit Calstock or even ride on the Tamar Valley Line. However, after watching this, guess where we'll be heading for very soon after the lockdown? That view from the viaduct into Calstock looked stunning and we might just be following that walk of yours through Danescombe Valley as well. Thank you for this and we'll be looking forward to your next trip. Take care and stay safe x
We went out on this walk from Cotehele earlier this week and the plaque above the door of the chapel is gone! I hope they have taken it down for restoration as it is a well managed place. We would not know of its existence if it wasn't for your video 🙂 Thanks.
Hi Sarah & Andrew just found your channel and really enjoying the content. Knowing your obvious love of local history I thought you might be interested that the Calstock Chip Shops almost certainly refer to the practice, common in mining communities, of paying the miners in "chips", (ie tokens) which they then exchanged for goods in local stores, known as chip shops. Nothing to do with fish n chips! Best Wishes John
Beautiful video enjoyed this your train ride . A lovely place the houses so sweet the train carriage .The great history the Vilkings and the hotel . Places like used to be a butcher fish shop and a bank so sweet houses . So peaceful Caldastock . The mining buildings still there . Your doggy like the train ride he so cute . What a lovely walk keep up the good walks your both joke made me laugh 😂 Canit wait for another video look forward to them stay safe xx
Andrew and Sarah - What a lovely, lovely video! One of the best, but having said that, everyone is lovely and on a lovely sunny day too. In some ways it was like going back in time. What a lovely village Calstock is. Love the name plaques on the buildings. You really are doing your best to keep us all in touch with our beloved Cornwall. Thank you 🙏 PS: We don't know what your doggy's name is but we thought it might be a good idea for him to give a "Bye Bye" bark at the very end of the videos. Lots of love xx
Ahhh! How sweet! He really is not a dog that barks very much! Only on the beach and at the postperson! He is a great dog to take out filming, knows exactly what to do! Sarah :)
Another lovely walk and surprisingly dry underfoot. Was it made before lockdown I wonder. Sarah and Andrew on top form. Always a joy to watch. A train journey as well! Thank you
Once again a great video ! You two would make a great comedy act, Yes you should BRANCH out into comedy cause you are both BARKing mad i won't ROOT around for anymore puns , I will LEAF that to you ! Don't think I'm a SAP and CUT ME DOWN while I'm on a roll ! Should that be a LOG roll !!! Keep safe 😁👍
I was wondering yesterday after looking on a map if you had done a walk at Calstock. And Walah it appears today. Don’t understand how the internet read my mind.
Please check. Date discrepancies maybe due to calender adjustments. Some discrepancies are up to five or more years. Christ was born five years before He was, is an example. Love this video. You are the value added. Thank you.
Great episode, and, thank you so much for the minimal glimpses of face masks as i find them so depressing. Personal point of view i know, but, thanks anyway.

Fabulous walk. Must get organised to actually do some and stop just watching you two. Thanks.

Very nice. My wife's friends purchased Harewood Nursery in the 80's nearby. Wonder if its still called same?
Loved the video. Brought back many happy memories. I was born and brought up in calstock but left aged 16.
That's interesting - I bet you can see the changes since you left. A very laid-back atmosphere, Sarah :)
I follow you on my oculus VR head set. So well done you two keep them coming. 25 minutes of escapism.
Great video as usual. I had a friend called Egbert ..... Egbert Nobacon was his name. He wasn't much of a meat eater. 😉😁
