The 'thatched' village! A walk from Cadgwith, Cornwall to Poltesco Serpentine Works

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 13 พ.ค. 2021
  • Our walk starts in the fishing village of Cadgwith. After an explore around the village we pick up the South West Coast path towards Poltesco to discover a derelict serpentine works.
In the Victorian era, serpentine became very popular when Queen Victoria installed a serpentine fireplace in Osbourne House on the Isle of Wight. Once a thriving factory, all that is left is the footprint of the buildings and the warehouse, now in the ownership of the National Trust.
We head inland towards Ruan Minor where Andrew tells a Thespian tale connected with the funding of the church organ. Using quiet roads and footpaths we pick up the South West Coast Path once again to return to Cadgwith passing the Devil's Frying pan along the way.
    The standard description bit…
We are Sarah and Andrew and we film our walks around Cornwall and publish on TH-cam, usually weekly. Sometimes we stay in accommodation in Cornwall and upload our vlog. Sarah is fascinated by sea glass and likes to collect it so there may be the occasional sea glass video too. The channel is a hobby and we both have normal day jobs!
    Frequently asked questions:
    What camera do we use?
Since December 2018 we have used: Canon Powershot G7x MkII
How do I find the books you use?
Most are still in print although some we pick up in charity shops and may be available on Amazon secondhand. Please refer to the video for the book titles. Every video shows the book three times. Sorry but we can’t put a link in every description.
Best time of year to visit Cornwall?
We love May, June for flora and fauna, July and September for spectacular scenery.
    What is your dog’s name?
Sorry but we do not release the name of our dog, perhaps you can make up your own name for him.

Being a late walk, he was very exuberant, couldn't wait to get down on the beach but the bathing beach had a dog ban and the fishing cove probably wasn't the best place to let him roam so he was just complaining a little at being held back! Sarah :)

Took the words right out of my mouth! ''I love a Holy Well'' said Andrew, and so do I! So much so I think I've visited quite a lot of them in Cornwall and elsewhere over the years....but funnily enough, not this one!(Madron is a favourite). Nice to have a little stone bench to sit on quietly contemplating. Some of the wells are tucked away in the depths of the countryside down there.
Often with little mementos left and ribbons hung from the trees. The Lizard is such a lovely area to meander & explore. And I agree Sarah that the evening stillness with pink edged skies is such a peaceful time of day. Seems like the world stops still for a moment. Off to IOW actually tomorrow, so will look out for the Serpentine at Osborne House when we go...although by the look of the weather forecast it won't be pink edged skies, more like black thunder clouds! Hey ho....x J x

At the well, there was a tub of tea lights. We didn't have time to film it properly but I guess you can leave a little token for a loved one that way, Sarah :)

Hi Carola! You are right! We protect our filming equipment for the most part and prefer to film in the better weather. Our cameras are getting older and we know that we will need to replace them soon - ouch! I meant to ask, about the Boscastle walk, I noticed that old leaflet mentioned a Rocky Valley walk. Does it mention the ruined mill (or was it still working then?) and does it mention the carved mazes in the rock?
