It would be cool if in the stick there would be a microphone. Then it would capture voice even at 5 meters.
FINALLY! i am talking for years that insta needs to put 2x 4k sensor in to make it work as it should. just thought of getting rid of my X3 because quality is so terrible compared to all other action cams i own. and here we are!
The quality of the content is really good, unfortunately too it’s hard to show that because of their compression. But I am more than pleased.
@@AirPhotography anything better than my X3 i will accept. the video quality was more than questionable. barely enough for some short clips to send friends. with 8k i would dare to use it more often in my videos
@@AirPhotographybut what about low light performance. Is there any improve or uogradation with sensor? It says only half inch sensor
I never find myself using my Insta360 cameras that much because the video quality was so much better out my action cameras. That the option to reframe in post wasn't worth the lower video quality. But the X4 may change all that, judging from your sample videos. Great review Shawn, and thanks for sharing.
You are the only person so far that showed off the Velcro and windscreens! Thank you so much. I have wireless mics, but all of my video capture for my TH-cam channel is outdoors hiking and camping. Rain and sleet are things that make me nervous using my mics and these simple windscreens are really nice work around to the improved mics on the X4.
Indeed, they are super easy to use non-obtrusive and very functional. I like how they give you several in the pack in case you lose them.

I agree, I didn't have or need a drone, then I found him and soon had a Mavic Pro Platinum. Now a few thousand later, I have a Go Pro black 9, an Air 2 which I sold, and Mini 3 which I gave away, An Insta360 something, a Mavic 3, and a Mini 4 Pro. I'm retired now, and need to unsubscribe, but he is habit forming... 🙄
Thanks, I have been waiting for this as I usually reframe the 360 video. From 5.7 K it didnt match up with my 4K vidoes shot with DJI Osmo Action 3. With 8K it will be a lot better.

Great video Sean, at last an action camera that will allow me to get rid of my GoPro’s. As a biker wanting to capture content from multiple angles in 4k, sticking GoPro’s all over my bike with all the challenges that brings with it can at last be overcome with one device PERFECT. Does the x4 have an external power option? The new batteries with their extended run time might suffice but having the camera directly connected would remove that runtime anxiety I used to get before hard wiring my GoPro’s which would be nice to see on the new x4. I will keep my eyes open for the app. Review as I’m sure this will be a good one to watch too. Thanks Sean
I think the x3 has a battery eliminator so if x4 battery is same size it might work. I really hope they didn't make this camera bigger because people need a small cam when in the wingsuit.

Hey Shawn, great video as always. Have you had a chance to take a look at the photo functions? When you're recording a 360 video and take a framed snapshot out of the video, what resolution is this picture? On the X3 they have been way worse than on the GoPro Max. Same question for exporting a framed shot out of a 72MP picture, what would be the final resolution? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for another great review! I have never owned a 360 camera but decided to pull the trigger on this one. Can’t wait for it to get here. I live in Florida and will be traveling out west this fall. This camera will be one that I will look forward to using on this trip. BTW, you look great with your weight loss! I want to ask about the insta360 app, is it possible to edit videos from an external SSD from iPad?
Does it have the same form-factor as X3 or you need to re-purchase all the accessories? I have line mount and waterproof case for X3. Will X4 fit in?
There is one complaint I saw on the X3, the X2 had a better frame rate and was there for better for slow-mo 360 footage. What's the frame rate maximum on this?

What’s the maximum memory card size
I’m using a 512 in it right now. I’m not sure if it goes higher.
The thing that all action cams suffer from, including this one, is the bit rates are so low that you get pixelating/muddiness when the image is moving quickly like when you are on the bike. TH-cam compression probably doesn't help, but I notice it in almost all action cam videos.
Hi! Great video! i had a question on the insta360x4. did you have issues exporting videos on the app, saying your device didnt have enough space, when it did? or playing videos back in memode on the app? my just play back all black
Eh. I was waiting for 8K x 60fps. I guess not this time. 60fps is very essential for fast sports and Im not even talking about slow motion. Well i guess I will still be filming in 5.7K but videos will be smoother
I don’t know, I may get this. Not a big fan of 360 cameras cuz the footage always looks a little funny. Now that they’ve bumped the resolution up I might could sparingly incorporate some 360 footage into my videos. Color science looks a little whack on this camera, though. I’m on the fence. We”ll see.

Did you have to transfer the clips from the Insta 360 to your Ipad for this tutorial or how?
Does it still have the issue where if you record continously, it loses a few seconds of footage every half hour (as it saves one clip and starts the next)?
I will definitely test that. I usually don’t record for that long of a period but I’m out doing some more filming today so I will put that to the test
Just bought this new X4, first test on the sport bike at speed, guess what happened?!, the forward facing standard protective lens was removed by the wind forces. Insta360 you failed! It doesn’t fit on firm enough! Buyer beware!,!,!,!,!,

What about overheating?
I have not experienced overheating yet. Even when filming in 8K. Now with that said the maximum I have recorded is 16 minutes. I will be doing some overheating tests over the coming weeks to see how it performs

Hi there. Will I be able to take photos of homes (properties) with this as well as videos and pull them into youtube (without having to buy software e.g matterport?)
They're defying the logic against these and the dji pocket 3 making them this large. They keep making them bigger and bigger this will not fit comfortably in a pocket anymore even gopro as much as I hate them is making me like them less bc of the size.
I bought the X3 a week ago so now I have to return it! It makes me wonder if I shouldn't sell my Insta360 Ace Pro because the X4 can do both 360 and single-lens at 4K now. Sounds like the Ace Pro has become redundant. What do you think?
X4 low light performance same as ace pro pure video mode? Any video on this?
No, pure video would be only for ace pro. So low light lovers may not buy x4

How is it in Low Light? Is it equal or better than the Ace Pro?
They say in lowlight you should film at 5.7 K but I filmed everything in 8K and I found it really good. There is one spot in this review, where I was doing the audio test I was under a tree canopy. There was not a lot of light and to me. It looked really, really good.

great video! can you get 360 footage that can then be reframed to 155 degree fov 4k? the 180 degree footage looks funky (in my opinion, i understand it's subjective) so im wondering if it can be cropped into a 155 degree fov and have the resolution of something like the action 3, but still 360. otherwise will likely just get an ace pro or action 4.

I still don't think that the image quality is up to par. Most people are buying a 360 cam for the ability to just and forget, then reframe in software. The jump from 5.7k to 8k, spread spherically, still isn't very good. None of those videos looked very good to me, and my experience with Insta360 has been anything but pleasant. The very day that I bought my X3, last month :-/, I also bought the invisible selfie stick/ tripod. A fairly light wind knocked over the tripod, scratching both screens. That isn't acceptible for an action cam that does not have user replaceable lenses. I even requested a repair/replacement of the two lenses, at my cost, and received zero response.
I use a pair of Go3 3's on a near daily basis...one overheated and died while transferring footage via cable to my laptop, and the other has been fine, but is a backup that is rarely used. Also, my cats use the go 3's when climbing trees, and somehow they have broken 2 lenses. Again, not much of an action cam. The images on these are garbage, at 1440p, with semi quick movements.
Overall, I am very disapointed in Insta360 cameras. I can tell that many people are posting reviews after doing an aweful lot of post processing to the footage. Thank you for not doing that, and posting actual footage. I think I'll hole out for 12k at this point.
Have you put this thing in water? I can't find any videos of people using this around the beach without the dive case. I want to use it to in and out of the water, but am worried about the what it will look like under water.
I have never used it underwater myself. I prefer to use an action camera when filming underwater for better results
I just got the Action 4 a month ago 😭 should I try n sell it to get this? Any more videos for the Action 4 coming?
HI for the premium lens guard doest it produce glare on low light? because in X3 lens guard causes terrible glare particularly on lowlight
I still have more testing to do with that. That’ll be included in my follow up review in about 30 to 60 days.

Out of all the cameras I have ever bought I hate this one the most! I can't edit worst a darn, whenever I try to do cool things with it like time lapse, star lapse, it gives me errors all the time. I went all out and bought extra batteries super long sticks, dive case bla bla bla, I'm looking it right now and I want to throw it into lake😂

Most modern smart phones are capable of it. I’m not sure exactly what to tell you specifically wise

I need to quit watching these as I now have more drones and cameras than I can use. Only two of each. I have passed on the more recent Go Pros, and I need to pass on this, but it does look better than the X2 or X3, I'm not even sure which one I have at this point.
2.7K out 360 not 4K! some good feature but this camera is 2.7K
4K single lens mode and when exporting the 360, you can upscale it to 4K right in the app.

The file system and exporting are worse than my Gopro Max.
They’ve changed the files are now one 360 file instead of two. so that’s gonna make managing the 360 files much easier

X4 has pretty bad dynamic range, the video is an improvement over the X3 of course but it really is nothing special. The photos are also sadly nothing to write home about, average at best and absolutely nothing you would want to use for clients, I know people who sell outrageous 360 services using X3's and basic Thetas and it's criminal. Theta Z1 is till the king for images but the X4 is OK for the average casual user. Absolutely not worth the price though and my tear down reveals some very cheap components but hey that's insta360 for you.
