Up until the Nepalese princess, I grew some biases as the present day fortune. The Nepalese princess was senior to the Chinese princess and even before them he had each bride from three regions of the Tibet ; Kham amdo utsang. The wise general Gar Tong Tsen was told by the Chinese as his skills and arts couldn’t challenge the ones who propose marriage to the princess. So out of wittiness, he accepted the challenge and even left mesmerised the audiences. Then he was honoured to choose the statue of Buddha Sakyamuni as a token of excellence. The Chinese communist party rewrite history as they like so don’t believe whatever you hear!! For more information visit Tibetan library of books and archive !!
Thanks to professor Matthew Kapstein for highlighting Tibet and its cultures during the 7th. to 9th. and so on, this should have done by Tibetan historians but some how possibly due to circumstances were not able to produce to the extend of todays technology, all the same welcome to the Tibetan history for the world to see that Tibet was a FREE COUNTRY.
Ah, so the Tibetans and the Chinese have been at each other's throats since time immemorial! The current state of affairs is just one in a seemingly unending chain of ups and downs...
About not showing the audio visual aids. Academics seem to lack the gumption to get the job done or maybe, they just lack imagination but, some people are so lazy that any effort is more than they can manage.
the assasination of the "lang dharma" by "lhalung pel ki dorji" is controversial. some say it was justified as lang dharma was cracking down on buddhism. but some believe that his assasination marked the disintigration of the imperial Tibet. so, lhalung is viewed as "saviour or rather the cause for the decline of Tibetan imperial power. rebellion from ministers during the 3 great kings was solely coz of buddhism idealogy effecting the political and military system during imperial rule. i am not an expert but this is what i heard from some elders. but i noticed that any state or kingdom ruled by religion never made much progress. state and religion should be seperate. thus, the dalai lama in exile somehow managed to give the state affairs back to people. the history of Tibet after the decline of imperial Tibetan kingdom is riddled with various lamas ruling and the leadership changing hands several times with the intervention from foreign powers like Mongolia and China. Tibet never enjoyed the glory and power of the former Imperial kingdom. in the end, Chinese invasion of Tibet was inevitable as the state preferred to stay away from world affairs. even the Tibetan military was ancient compared to the ill equipped chinese forces. Even the 13th dalai lama realized this blunder and made efforts for major reforms. but even his life was under threat from people who were more interested in saving their titles. hence, the 14th dalai lama was declared the new leader which was too late. while those who made such national blunder managed to abstain from taking the blame. if you look at the fate of regent 'radreng rinpoche" the then regent after 13th dalai lama. who was against declaring war on china but rather favoured diplomacy after consulting the infamous traitor "ngaboe " ( the minister who ruled over the present amdo and kham regions of Tibet), who then advised "radreng rinpoche" against war with china after relizing that Tibetan forces were no match against the battle hardened and united guaming tang forces which counted in millions. but some of the ministers in lhasa was in favour of war against china. the recent history of tibet is totally tragic. and now as a refugee myself living in exile i totally despise those who ruined our future for their own selfish interest. when i read about Tibetan history its more of a religious history than a history itself. reading early tibetan history is glorious but the latter history is so frustating.
I'm pretty sure there are slides. When they are not shown it's pretty much a waste of time. Not even a podcast, because the speaker is assuming we can see slides.
Good job not showimg the maps he is presenting
Thank you for the Tibetan history lesson.
Mr Matthew's tibetan names of Tibetan kings and spiritual words are perfect as he knows Tibetan languages.

It would have been rather nice of the camera person to show us the map and images to which Matthew Kapstein keeps pointing... WAKE UP!
Very interesting.
