I’ve flown with my Featherweight a few times and it was never a problem. I just kept her with me on the plane in her regular black box which has a place for the pedal and cord inside on the top. Going through security was always fun to hear the comments when they noticed it was an old sewing machine. I would never check my Featherweight in baggage. She fit beautifully in the overhead compartment or under the seat in front of me. Happy travels and happy sewing!

I am flying to Seattle with a 25 pound Juki to have it repaired (and to see friends!). I think it's too big and heavy for me to handle as a carry on. I'm a bit nervous! The repair people at SMS in Renton, WA are the best. When the pressure foot lever broke off the back, no one here in Palm Desert, California would help. Since I was planning a trip to Seattle, things worked out perfectly. I plan on putting the Juki in a rolling case stuffed with my clothes. 😊

My Featherweight "Annie" has traveled many times. She was new when gifted to my mom, Anne, for Christmas in 1955. My two sisters and I learned to sew on her and she was the our only sewing machine. One of my sisters was a flight attendant, and took Annie along when she had long layovers and sewed in her hotel room.
Fast-forward to the present...I have inherited my mom's FW and in addition to a fancy, state-of-art, sewing machine, I find I use my FW very often. She has flown (always as carry on) to multiple retreats and on Grammy's visits to Ohio to sew for my Grandchildren!

That is so wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing Annie's story! It's so nice to know that others name their FW!

Thanks for the video! I’m tracking my little Janome travel mate with me on a flight next month. The machine is only 12 lb. Did your carry on bag have rolling wheels?

Hi Kathy, The information, is good to know. I haven’t traveled with my featherweight, but it would be my choice as well. I do think I need a bag like yours though. 🥰👍🥰 Chris

Heading to Colorado myself for the first time with a featherweight. Good information and I appreciate it. The folding cutting boards will have to be my choice to fit in my luggage

Hi, thanks! I had wanted to bring my machine on vacation and wondered if those bags really did work. Now I know. "Alice" gets to go!
