I'm pretty sure the cabinet is mahogany, or more probably teak. It will stand up to pee, because they thought of that when it was made. In those days (and in these days) the nobility did some serious drinking; the makers knew some of the guys would have trouble pointing Percy at the old porcelain pot and aiming true!

This is one of the problem we have with modern stuffs. They're built like an alien designed them, but broke down faster than my bank after a night out.
I have 4 AC in my house, 2 are 30 odd years old and the other two are 4 years and 2 years old. The 4 years old one broke down after a year, and the latest one broke down in a week. Mean while the two old chaps haven't have any break down for around 20 years now
This also applies to most home appliances, too
a sad reality how modern stuff are built cheap to lower cost for the company, and to make consumers buy and spend more =[
