This insane build is just another day at the office for Vancouver, BC-based HPA Motorsports. This 2008 Volkswagen Eos features a single-turbocharger added to its factory VR6 engine, a dual-clutch gearbox, and all-wheel drive grafted in. Making 500 horsepower and 600 lb/ft at the wheels, this Eos doesn't look like much on the outside, and doesn't sound like much either, but it may be one of the finest, slickest sleepers we've ever driven.

I agree, atleast for a stock convertible. It actually ranks pretty close to my mk1 cabrio in smiles per mile.
I recently got a R32 V6 EOS. It's a joy to ride. Even when stock.

@ColdVsIce i got an 08 eos with the 2.0 fsi engine. Has good torque in sport mode and im getting around 28 mpg if i drive normally. Only issue is my leaky roof

Triggered, my head almost exploded when he called a VR6 an V6 and the other guy explained why it was ok. Give me a couple of weeks and I might finally calm down. If he ever says that there is no such thing as a W engine I've had it.

I love all the fancy cars and tuner cars on this channel but what gets me is the random cars that are stupid clean and stupid fast. Like this EOS is amazing. I would've never thought to modify a VW Eos
VW Eos is a good looking car for sure.
I'm surprised that the car just absorbed the upgrade. If I didn't buy my EOS for just over $5k I'd definitely think about spending $14k on this conversion
HPA cars make the best one takes. The shear joy on Matt's face driving these cars is unmatched.

I have one, and no ... it does not suck ... point of fact, the VW EOS is the only car that has a folding convertible roof with a sliding glass sunroof, mine is the face lifted version with an options list as long as my arm.
Now all I have to do is convince the wife to do this conversion on her Eos.

Incredibly cool build. And that VR6 note is still awesome. I got passed in my modest MK6 Golf GTI by a MK5 R32 the other day. The sound is just so much better, wow.
Love it when Matt giggles from the astonishing power of a vehicle. Good video, this guy from HPA is very knowledgeable about everything about this cars modification, love videos like this.
Marcel invited our local car club (Vancouver R Club) to a private open house at HPA last week. Incredible operation, and the passion they have for what they do is so apparent in Marcel and his staff. I know where I'm going when my warranty is up, or when I decide "to heck with my warranty".

This is probably the second-best choice for HPA sleeper status, just behind a 1st-gen New Beetle Convertible. This would be MUCH easier to live with though. Freakin' wonderful stuff!

Awesome video and HPA seems like a good tuner outfit. He seems more of a straight shooter than most. And your enthusiasm is infectious.

He says at the end that the customer requested it to be swapped for a Scirocco front end...for obvious reasons...
But then a 335i convertible will do almost the same performance with stock turbo's and overall another class of a car.
But MAD RESPECT for the HPA crew, always the sickest builds.
I think you'd need a turbo upgrade for 500whp and 600lb ft, I think the stockers run out of puff around 450 but this car is real out of the norm

I had the chance to see their R32 that had made it into Gran Turismo 5 a few years back. They gladly started it up and shot fire out of the exhaust for me to see.

I was pleasantly surprised when I drove a stock EOS turbo. I thought it was gonna be slow, but it actually had some balls.

@@heywoodjablome5630 I personally have one with a classic 140hp TDI, I wouldn't call it fast (depends on your standards) but there is a nice boost when the turbo kicks in... and with the torque of a diesel not a lot of cars can keep up when I go uphill. It's just a good little car... I know lots of people hate it... I've had it for over 10 years and really don't want to get rid of it.. I had 2 daughters and it was still fine, now I have 3 and everybody tells me to sell the damn car.... too many memories and I still enjoy it a lot... let the wifey upgrade to a bigger family hawler lol

I have a VR6 eos... custom ordered from the factory, have been thinking about doing something like this, never knew it existed... however: from what the cost is, the upgrade costs more than the vehicle is worth, how would you insure something like this?

A Han if you are in the Craigslist search better for R8 first gen it has better platform, mid engine, AWD and is far better all around, you will thank me latter. :)
A Han u can get a 2007 for like 8k here in Vancouver. They get up to like 25k for a 2012 with low kms.

As some one who has worked on some crazier builds of hard body's over the years...1 with a Jim wolf upgraded 300zx twin turbo drive train.....2 with a built 400+whp sr20 a 370z drive train would be nice and if you don't want leaf springs(That can handle pretty good with minor mods) they can be converted to 3-4 link and coilovers and still keep a functioning bed....

These look great with the scirocco front end conversion.
World's only automotive application of a single-head V at the moment. Lancia did it for years.
He says that twins take half the boost than a single to make whatever horsepower you want but in my opinion at all comes down to head work, I've seen a rb26 swapped Datsun 240z making 800whp on 14-15 psi with an efr 8374, with massive amounts of head work, stroker crank and forged pistons. If the owner wants just a turbo kit than yea you'll make more power with twins than a single but if they're going to get a built motor and some head work than a single can make as much power as twins
Damn the front gives me instantly flashbacks to my own 2.0 TSI Scirocco (since this Eos got the Rocco front bumper), which is rare to see since Scirocco's aren't sold in the USA would love to see one on your show Matt. I have some pics here

500 horsepower will just about fix anything. You always know it's going to be a good drive when Matt starts giggling like a little kid when he first steps on the gas. I wonder if he's ever had a run in with the highway patrol when driving cars up in the canyons?
Had to wait till the end for any mention of the Scirocco front end- I'd have like to have heard more about how he managed to fit that.
They share the same platform and come from the same manufacturing plant in Portugal. Both cars' wheelbase are identical. So it probably wasn't that hard to fit it. They most likely grafted the front half of the Scirocco fenders to the back half of the Eos front fenders so that the body line on the doors would match up properly.
Love to have just the AWD added with rear wheel drive bias with either the standard turbo 4 or naturally aspirated VR for a true 4 season car.
It's doable tho, if you know someone who can cut and weld/spotweld.
The spare tyre well needs to be cut partially to make the haldex fit 👍
Easiest path would be to get a complete donor and swap everything over. The rear floor is not much different from fwd to 4wd

"Customer didn't want paddles" was weird Matt? Most people like manuals more because it is an engaging driver input experience. Or so I thought auto journalists and customers want for an better driver focus car. Only reason I would opt for paddles is for faster shifts and heavy traffic commuting because manuals are tired some in traffic.
