Guys and girls!! Thank you so much for checking in and joining us in our adventure trying to resurrect this old beast!! ❤❤❤❤ I’ll check back and reply to all of your comments over the next day or so, I’m on holiday in Morocco this week and completely overwhelmed with the unbelievable response we’ve had! More updates coming soon and the next video goes live at 5.00pm next Sunday 😊😊😊😊 thanks for watching! Llewelyn and Chris
Any questions you have or parts you need can be found at the zr1netregistry website. I brought a long dead ZR-1 back to life a couple years ago. If you try to crank it before you get oil pressure You will have loud clanking of the cam chains due to the tensioners not being pumped with oil so be careful. The fuel pumps and sender are most likely trash and the injectors especially as this has been sitting for so long I'm sure they are factory injectors.
I brought my 91 ZR1 in 93 and gave it to my nephew 3 years ago (he keeps it insured for me as well), I have had to recommission it a couple of times over the years. Here are a few things that might give you grief, fuel injectors old GM injectors were steel and if they got a whiff of ethanol they rust up (RC Fuel Injection), fuel pumps, there are two of them, IAC (idle air control) valve and if the plugs, plug wires and coils are original you will need them (11.25:1 compression needs a healthy spark), if you can get them AC Delco parts are the best on this car. As you can imagine over the years I have had a few upgrades listed in fun and effect, 4.10:1 rear diff, then it is hard to separate, FlowMaster exhaust, Energy Suspension urethane bushings, Morrison Motorsport EPROM (yes from Tommy at the beginning of the video). I am looking forward to watching your build and give me a shout if you have something that you are stuck on I might be able to help.
Wow James, thanks for the info! I would love to do some upgrades such as a chip tune, exhaust, polybushes etc but for now we’ve got our work cut out with the basics! :) I can see me spending a lot on parts and shipping! 😭😅😅
@@Auto_Funk Having shipped over lots of Corvette parts because I can get them cheaper there than I can here in the UK, try and get all your parts consolidated in one box over there, Summit and Ecklers are good at this. As for upgrades the final drive will give you the biggest kick, OEM gearing was for Federal emissions / mileage stuff and made 6th gear all but useless. When you get it going you will find the OEM exhaust very disappointing. Bushings, there was some discussion at the time about were they trying to build a Cadillac, quiet and compliant? Urethane bushes give the front end a really nice accurate pointy feel but if you put them all round like I did quite hardcore and that is what I wanted. As for the EPROM I would be surprised if you can get one these days as very few people even know what they are. In real terms on a well tuned NA engine it doesn't make much difference to final output just more aggressive getting there. I have DIACOM OBT data logging software and the cable that goes with it but I don't have a 386 Windows machine to run it on, do you? What I didn't mention is vacuum leaks and the IAC valve between them they can make barely running into smooth as. When you study the throttle body you will see a tiny butterfly at the bottom, as with everything else important. More to follow as you go.
Nice to find this kind of projects here. Good luck and a lot of patience with the LT5. For sure that you can bring back to life because LT5 are so reliable. All the best from Spain and if I can help you...
Jonny sent me here guys. Well done in bringing it home safely. Will now be watching your videos as Iv'e always loved the Corvettes, ZR1 particularly! John from London!

I don't think so, that's not an area I would have travelled to back then. still, it might have been somewhere else in New Jersey, possibly atco raceway
