I have used this technique for the past month. Trying to perfect it and adapt it to my style. This video alone has taken my pictures to another level. I wish that you see how my art has been transformed by this technique one day. Thank you immensely
You always amaze me I thought I was good with Ps and Lr but …. You are the master. I only wish my Mac OS allows the new versions of Lr Time to buy new. Thanks for every post
Right now I'm doing a large project on animal portraits. Your 20/10 technique is just about what I was looking for. Amazing results!!! Thanks a million, Glyn. You've made my heart POP. 😆
So happy i found your page 3-4 months ago because your portraits are just my style and i learned alot just your 20/10 did alot for my print z . A little tip you should do to engage your audience even more is to have a video where you critique our portraits and what we could do to make them better. That would be both fun and learning i would def send in one
Great technique to give facial features some extra pop. Thanks so much for sharing. I find your tips very easy to follow and they will definitely improve and simplify my post process work.
Couldn't wish for a better explanation than this, thanks as always Glyn for another concise explanation on how to achieve these great results. Much appreciated as always. 👍🙏👍
So i saw your 20/10 tutorial the other day using PS. I immediately went over to LR and tried to figure out how to use the technique there. I figured out a way that produced good results and then I find this video today and it's virtually the same...thank you for doing these, they are greatly appreciated.
A video on how to replicate the duotone capability that exists in Photoshop would be great!

Great video this and the 2010 itself, I really apreciate it because I Print every day, in my studio, portraits and photography from my photoshoots and for other people and this thecnique really works when we print!! a Big THANK YOU FROM MENORCA!!
The biggest difference between your portraits and others/trending styles is your f-stop is f2.0. Personally, I love lowering my f-stop. My first beauty shoot, all the images needed to look like 1800s western photography. So I shot at f1.8 on my 85mm and added paper textures, scratches, along with a sepia filter. The final product was so believable!
Glyn, Thank you for sharing your face enhancing technique with and without an additional light source. I use Capture One and I am sure your 20,20,20, and 10 adjustments will work for me. Second Comment: Glyn, I tried your 20/10 method on a group shot of 15 college students. I studied the before and after photos side-by-side on a full screen display and enlarged. As I scrolled past each face there is a slight but noticeable sharpness, definition, and brightness. My original was lacking and your 20/10 version is the winner. The light source was church lighting but not strong. My camera is a Nikon Z II with a 24-70 mm lens shot at F10 and low ISO. Thank You, Father Dan
Absolutely loving this technique! Recent;y subscribed after realising how much great content you have and how simply you explain it. I have a question though, would the 20/10 technique be suitable for more feminine portraits and/or babies & kids?
Very happy to read this Jacqui ... thank you. As for thr 20/10 on feminine / babies etc I do use it BUT at lower settings ... so maybe 12 / 6 or so , if that makes sense. Thanks again
Salutations Glyn
Absolutely astounding! NICE tutorial Glyn! I'm thinking of actually trying this process on not only portraits, but even landscapes that have subjects in the foreground. THANK YOU!!
Yeah it can work on all portraits for sure...I do use it 99.9% of the time. For some, like females / young girls, you just need to be a bit more sensitive with the settings and reduce them so that you get the impact but don't affect the skin too much...if that makes sense
Great stuff Glyn! I will try this out. What about sharpening steps? I often paint some added sharpness with the brush on the eyes. No need for that here or how do you do with sharpening?
Thanks so much.. You are a great technician and an excellent teacher. Also, your presentation is fun to listen to. Do you have any videos on file preparation for inkjet printing, I am using an Epson p800.
That's very kind of you to say William...thank you. As for file preparation, I'm actually working on a complete printing course at the moment which will be ready in just a few weeks 👍
Glyn - This is AMAZING! So glad you did a LR version, so much more user friendly. I learned so much that I can use to make my images better. Keep up the great work! Can't wait to see more from you. :D
Hi Glyn....just a little feedback, I've been using this mask but for female faces I've found that mostly 10/6 works better, 20/10 is little too harsh.....killer technique though, cheers :)
Yeah I've answered this a few times in the comments mate; 20/10 is a guide for settings I like to use as in this case on male portraits, but for females I tend to tone it down...there are no set numbers, but rather what works best. The effect comes from using 2 layers and masking...the numbers are down to the individual 👍
Great video and just what I need! I have some wildlife images from my Antarctica trip and was stuck on how to enhance faces, especially on monotone seals. Thanks!
I've been looking at your videos for quite some time. Its my first go to when I'm editing portraits. Thanks so much for all your good work. By the way, I also have your books. Worth every penny!
Glyn.... Love the video. Would you not change this up on female subject? maybe skip the first 20 and do a 20, 10. Just a question as I know they would prefer less contrast most of the time.
Thanks so much. Yeah re a female subject you could certainly do that. I wouldn't say to do it anyway but would try it out to see and just tweak the settings for that particular image. Nothing is 'set in stone' as it's very much dependant on the image and the look you're after. Hope that helps 👍
Thanks very good! One question Why duplicate the face after exposure? Why don’t you ad 20 on contraste texture and clarity on the fiesta mask ? Thanks Éric from Quebec
Éric you're not wrong to ask as many others have in the comments section. There's no technical reason for this..it's simply down to a life of using Photoshop and being used to keeping things in layers 👍
Hello dear distant friend, I wanted to tell you that it`s a very nice system, I don`t have lightroom but I think it can also be done in capture one, or at least I hope so. When I didn`t have a f.1,4 portrait lens yet, to make the similar effect I used to make two masks: the first one more blurred and the second one closer to the central area of the face, less blurred. Anyway it`s nice and fast and can replace the two passes with USM20 and 10 zonal in photoshop.
You are such an excellent teacher. Thank you!!!!!
Thank you so much for that
This legitimately improved my workflow and results. Thank you. I just ordered your book.
Very happy to read this, thank you
This is so spectacular. Thank you for sharing. It is fascinating how Lightroom is making it less an less necessary to use Photoshop.
Absolutely ... and with so much more to come 👍🏻
Great tip, I will definitely try that out on some of my own edits.
Great to hear ... cheers 👍🏻
using LR masks is how I would have approached this and it is simple in LR! thank you so much!
More than welcome Shawnie; thanks so much for looking in 😉
Just watched this video. LOVE IT! Thank you so much.

I had the same question about the other Adjustment layers you did in Photoshop, nice work love the technique!
Thank you for sharing this , have tried this on a couple of old photos, and have been happily surprised just how much it truly makes the images pop .

Thank you so much William 👍
😍 thanks again Glyn!
No problem David 😉
This is such a great technique Glyn!
Thank Tom 👍
Thanks for this tutorial. I'm not very comfortable with PS. I'm learning. Knowing this can be done in LR makes me so happy!!!
That's great to hear Tiffany...glad you like it 😊
Absolutely brilliant. Now I want to go back and revisit some previous work, just to give it some extra pop!
Hey glad you like it Stephanie. Thanks so much for stopping by 👍

Genius mate! Never gave LR a thought for doing this! It would also appear to be quicker than doing it in PS. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hey mate...thanks for that. Yeah now I've looked at this, I actually think I'll use this technique more 👍

Cheers Kev. Yeah to be honest every time I use it, I discover more. Great stuff especially considering this is version 1.0 👍
GREAT LIGHTROOM EDITING INFO! Question: Do you ever START your editing by hitting the AUTO TONE button? I have found this to be helpful...
Sometimes I do yeah ... and I totally iagree it's very useful

Thanks for sharing the photos. I applied the technique in camera raw and photoshop. Side by side I think Camera Raw has the edge in terms of 'pop'
Yeah I'm tending to agree with you there Gavin with the Camera Raw / Lightroom version 👍
Thanks for video. Excited to try this out. I see why it would work on those images, but do you do it with all portrait? Say, a young girl?

What about highlight & shadow slider? Sometimes a little tweak with these can improve global contrast. Especially when working with ambient.
Yeah definitely worth playing with them too mate 👍
