I would say the 20lb line is actually 25lb just labeled as 20 to make it appear way stronger than other name brands cause 20 is a very popular size. People will swear it's way stronger than other brands' 20 when in all reality it's 25 and not 20 is all it is. JMO of course.

hey hey, really enjoying your videos, thanks for taking the time and money testing all those lines. I bought a spool of berkley Trilene Big Game 20LB but i get very different results than you. My line breaks around 13 Lbs. i tried several knots e.g. Palomar knot or Clinch Knot and ClinchKnot with doubled over Line... i also wet the line before cinching up... any idea?

Hi, my tests confirm the mainline strength, not the knot strength (which can be lower than mainline). However, only 13lbs is very unusual, to the point where either there is an issue on how you are gauging your tests or the line itself is somehow bad ... it should be breaking easily in the 20lb + range.

@@analyticangling6715 thanks for replying and your help. Would you mind doing some knot tests with your line? I've observed these knot strengths issues on several lines of different brands in the past

They probably do it for picky customers who just have to have 25lb line because they hear it's the size to get. Or they just feel more comfortable in their minds that the extra strength. Not knowing it's the same thing.

don't know about other viewers, but what's most weird to me is the color of that line. I've never seen big game in that pink Ande color.
I've been suspicious of this before also. I forget which lines they were, but i remember seeing some where the jump in line diameter stopped for 2 strengths, then continued after it. How, right? Sometimes it'll be from rounding off, but that only makes sense if the incremental increases are also very small like you see with braids.

@FraserFir-sb4lk was wondering. I'm big on measuring the true ipt on reeks and line diameters. I'm a carpenter, I can't help but measure and count things I really shouldn't.

Most of us testing the line with fish scale doesn't get those results..all the time lower than that even with braid. My spiderwire 80 broke at 40..why

Spider wire is the worst, if u want cast ability and strength power pro has always been my go to line. I throw 10lb test majority of the time for bass and I bet it’s more like 15lb test it casts so far 2 it’s incredible I’ve use spider wire yozuri super braid and some other cheaper braids but nothing has beat the power pro in my opinion I’m sure that higher end line is better but I’m not one for spending a lot of money on line if I don’t have to I think at Walmart it’s like $13 for 150yards of power pro right now and although it sounds pricey it lasts probably 2 maybe 3 seasons and it just out performs other brands I’m ab to try out this berkley stuff on my flathead setup hope it’s good

THE BEST BRAID RIGHT NOW IS SUFIX 832 ADVANCED SUPERLINE (Made by Rapala) -HANDS DOWN! It is thinner than Power Pro (even though Power Pro is still very good braid) and SUFIX 832 Advanced Superline retains its roundness longer than Power Pro. I been fishing for over 25 years and I used 30lb and 80lb Power Pro and it was and still is Great, Excellent Braid I will still use Power Pro as a my solid 2nd choice for Braid. But me and a Cabela’s manager were talking about how we both use Power Pro and he HIGHLY RECOMMEND me to try and use SUFIX 832 Advanced Superline! He told me he changed all his setups after he seen, found out and experienced how much better SUFIX 832 Advanced Superline is compared to Power Pro and other braids. SUFIX 832 Advanced Superline DOES COST MORE IN PRICE IN COMPARISON TO OTHER BRAIDS! For example: I love buying 300 - 600 yard spools when I am able too (I fish for larger Freshwater BIG GAME Fish on the River and Lakes so I like buying larger yard spools) I sometimes / rarely buy 150 yard spools and tie a “Uni to Uni” knot. -But as I was saying my 300 yard spool of SUFIX 832 Advanced Superline Braid in 30lb cost me (as of right now in 2024) about $35 USD from Scheels and / or Cabela’s. -AND I WILL PAY IT ALL DAY EVERYDAY! BECAUSE OF THE QUALITY AND ENGINEERING OF THIS SUFIX 832 ADVANCED SUPERLINE BRAID, and my DEEP Passion for Fishing and wanting THE BEST; In Quality, Engineering, Durability, and Reliability, and Performance. -THAT is why I will pay the price for SUFIX 832 Advanced Superline all day, everyday. I LOVE SUFIX 832 Advanced Superline! And I am glad that Cabela’s manager I talked with told me about SUFIX 832 Advanced Superline. I AM NOT (as of now) PAID OR SPONSORED BY RAPALA OR SUFIX, I just LOVE Fishing and I will invest my money in what I like about a product -ESPECIALLY WHEN IT PERFORMS BETTER!
Another example of the Higher Price and Quality and Engineering of my SUFIX 832 Advanced Superline Braid in 80lb test when I bought it is: I purchased a 600 yard spool of SUFIX 832 Advanced Superline Braid in 80lb test (from Cabela’s in 2022 I think) and it was MSRP of $69.99 USD and about $74.99 USD out the door with tax and all that stuff. -AND I WILL PAY IT ALL DAY EVERYDAY. Because I LOVE the quality of this SUFIX 832 Advanced Superline Braid!
-BUT… IF YOU ARE LIKE ME WHO LOVES FISHING AND HAS A FIRE AND PASSION FOR FISHING AND YOU WANT TO INVEST IN QUALITY AND OVERALL A BETTER BRAID FOR YOUR FISHING try out a spool of SUFIX 832 Advanced Superline Braid and FEEL the Better Quality for yourself. If you are an experienced angler and have had experience with Braid (like I have for over 20 years) -YOU WILL FEEL THE BETTER QUALITY IN SUFIX 832 ADVANCED SUPERLINE BRAID! And your knots you tie with SUFIX 832 Advanced Superline Braid will tie -WAAAY EASIER, TIGHTER, AND BETTER because SUFIX 832 Advanced Superline uses this really nice protective coating on the braid and it feels so smooth, so slick, and it just EFFORTLESSLY AND SMOOTHLY SAILS OFF THE REEL! -YOU GOT TO FEEL THE HIGHER QUALITY AND ENGINEERING THAT GOES INTO SUFIX 832 ADVANCED SUPERLINE. I gladly pay the extra money for SUFIX 832 ADVANCE SUPERLINE BRAID! -BECAUSE THE QUALITY IS THERE IN IT. I call it “The Gucci Braid.”
And I like the little pamphlet they put in every box of SUFIX 832 Advanced Superline to explain to us buyers / fisherman the better engineering that goes into SUFIX 832 Advanced Superline and how it performs better than other braids of the same poundage. -AND SUFIX 832 Advanced Superline IS THINNER than other braids too! And it still retains its roundness and break strength season after season -AND I FISH ALOT!
I Fish ALOT! and my Power Pro in the past became fluffy after about 2 - 3 seasons of Heavy Fishing. If you take 30lb Braid in Power Pro and 30lb Braid in SUFIX 832 Advanced Superline… SUFIX 832 Advanced Superline IS THINNER, AND SLICKER THAN THE POWER PRO! -AND THE SUFFIX 832 RETAINS ITS ROUNDNESS BETTER THAN POWER PRO.
Power Pro (made by Shimano) is good braid. But it gets fluffy after 2 - 3 seasons. And Power Pro seems thicker.
I am embarrassed to say that I have not tried Berkley Trilene BIG GAME Braid. -I REALLY LIKE IT THOUGH! I am going to try some. Berkley provides such Great value for your money. So I trust Berkley. Their lures and rods have been Good for me for decades.
